Kenzo's and Eugen's swords both slice through the two goblins near them.
Magazin, Gyorgy, and Jessa can all still act.
And now at last, a convoluted map...
As normal, when a wall is mentioned, it is on the left side or top of the square mentioned.
This is a hard map to describe as the room is very irregular. From left to right, coordinates go from A to X. From top to bottom, the coordinates go from 1 to 7.
Starting at (x,6) there is a wall that goes up to (x,3). Now we have the first of three large alcoves. Starting at (x,3) it arcs up to the corner of (v,1) and then down to (t,3). The wall goes left to (p, 3) and then arcs up to the middle of (m,1) and then back down to (k,3). The wall continues to the left to (g,3) and then arcs up to the corner of (e,1) and back down to (c,3). The wall continues left to (a,3) and then goes down to (a,6). Cutting across the square to the corner of (B,7) is a door. Now begins the furnace. It begins at (a,7) and goes into (b,6) before continuing all the way right to (h,6). From (h,6) the furnace goes up halfway into (I,5) and then goes straight across to halfway up (m,5). From here it goes down (n,7) and then across to (r,7) and across and up to (t,6). From here it goes back across to our starting point at (x,6).
If you got all that, then you can place the following items in the room. There is a table filling (d,2 and e,2) and another very large table filling the areas of (c,4 - h,4). A smaller table fills up a good portion of (j,4) and (k,4). Another table is filling up some of (o,5 to q,5) and most of (o,6 to q,6). Finally there is a table in (t,3-u,3). There are four crates at (l,2), (n,2), (r,5), and (w,3).
For added fun, there are fiery furnace openings all along the furnace wall between (c,6) and (m,6) and now there is broken glass at (o,4).
The heroes are as follows: Kenzo (u,4); Eugen (u,5); Magazin (v,4); Gyorgy (w,4); Jessa (w,5).
The goblin bard is on the table at (k,4). The other five remaining goblins are at (q,4), (h,3), (e,3) and on the large table at (h,4) and (c,4).
Jeslara "Jessa" Eventide
"Bedezerine!" Jessa flings another cantrip of confounding mental energy at the nearest goblin, hoping to keep them dazed and let the warriors keep pressing forward.
OOC: I'm not sure that I followed the map description correctly. If Jessa can target the bard, she'll give that one a try, but she won't move beyond Kenzo and Eugen to do it. If the goblin bard is out of range, she'll move up and target whomever she can...daze (DC 14).
DM Wicht
There is a goblin (q,4) about 30 feet from Jessa. The Bard (k,4) is about 60 feet away.
With a room this irregular, a simple map is pretty hard to describe. My suggestion if you don't want to bother is to make up the grid without the wall and then just pencil in the characters and their coordinates.
Jeslara "Jessa" Eventide
There is a goblin (q,4) about 30 feet from Jessa. The Bard (k,4) is about 60 feet away.
OOC: Understood. Then Jessa takes a 5-foot step towards the gobin at (q,4) and he will be the target of her daze. Eugen, Kenzo, and Magazin will have to close the distance on the other goblins before Jessa braves anything more potent for now.
DM Wicht
The poor goblin, hit by a double wammy of mind altering magic, develops a goofy grin and licks his nose with a long purple tongue.
Saves vs Daze (DC 14, DC 13) (1d20-1=14, 1d20-1=0)
more later tonight I hope.
DM Wicht
The goblin songster continues his quirky song, banging away all the while on his little drum and capering in time to his own beat on the table.
Slit the throat and drink the blood,
Wash it on; don’t quell the flood,
Smash…. Smash…
When she’s mad she’s really bad!
Smash…. Smash…
Three of the goblins heft large glass chunks and with a sudden strange grin on all three of their faces, they move towards the party [to (n,3); (m,5); and (k,3)]. The other goblin on the far side of the bard hops off the table he was on and sticks a long rod in the furnace (d,5).
The dazed goblin, of course, does nothing but drool.
Goblins in the Glassworks! – Round 3
Eugen – initiative: 12
Magazin – initiative: 8
Kenzo – initiative: 8
Gyorgy – initiative: 7
Jessa – initiative: 6
Goblins – Initiative: 6
Jeslara "Jessa" Eventide
OOC: I think I've finally got this map figured out. If so, Jessa is going to move to r6 to take cover between the table and crates close to the wall. She then targets the goblin at m5 with another daze (DC 14), figuring Gyorgy can keep the other one under control.
"Keep him out of the fight!" Jessa urges Gyorgy, "I'll handle some of the others." Even as the warriors press ahead, she moves with them, but eventually separates to take cover in the relative safety of the crates next to one of the tables. Seeing another of the goblins headed her way, she leans over the table with an outstretched arm.
"Bedezerine!" she calls out again, targeting him with another enchantment.
Eugen Enescu
surprise no longer an issue, i give vent to my inner desire to yell while running and loudly charge the dazed goblin Q4. about halfway there it occurs to me that it might be a little ridiculous yelling like crazy while attacking a mindless dazed goblin, but then i think maybe it will intimidate the others. i try to make myself look big.
swing! smash!
charging dazed goblin, q4 (1d20 +5 + 2 +1=19)
'satisfying series of crunches!' i think to myself, and then look up to see four more goblins staring me down, their cataract eyes shining in the firelight.
DM Wicht
The goofy grin on the goblins face dissapears as Eugen's sword slashes into him. He falls next to the glass encased arm of some unfurtante soul.
As the party moves forward, the glass encased figure in the center alcove becomes clearer. It is Lonjiku Kaijitsu, Ameiko's father and the owner of the Glassworks. There is a hideous look on his face. It seems likely that he was alive when he was encased in molten glass.
Kenzo
DM Wicht
Even as the little goblin hefts a large piece of glass over its head with two hands, preparing to throw it at Kenzo, the monk's sword cuts him down and he drops the glass upon his own head before falling to the ground, unmoving.
Magazin and Gyorgy left to go. I'll roll the (m,5) goblin's save on its turn for Jessa's daze. The goblin at (k,3) is preparing to throw a large chunk of glass at Kenzo, as is the goblin at (m,5).
Gyorgy Elberion
I'll move up to t,4 and lob a starknife at the goblin at m,5, using Arcane Strike.
As the weapon soars through the air and strikes home I let out a little cheer.
Jeslara "Jessa" Eventide
There is now glass filling the square in (m,5) now. Jessa can change her move if she wishes.
OOC: With no one else in range (and out of movement squares to get closer to one), Jessa casts true strike instead. Basically, she's preparing her dagger for an unimpeded shot at the drummer goblin in the distance.
DM Wicht
The goblin still holding a piece of glass steps forward (l,3) and with a cackle, it throws its piece of glass forward at Kenzo.
The glass hits the floor in front of Kenzo and shatters into pieces. A solitary finger, embedded in the glass, skitters forward, spinning to a stop at Kenzo's feet.
The goblin bard stops singing and shouts in goblin,
The other goblin, now wielding a long rod with flaming molten glass on the other end runs forward, towards the group, its booted feet crunching over broken glass. (p,5)
Eugen Enescu
Georgy's star whistles past my ear to embed itself in the goblin i was eying, 'nice!' i exclaim while rushing forward to meet the attack of the goblin with the flaming rod in P5. I swing my sword on the run so as to end up beside him P3and leave a clearer space for my fellows.
charging goblin in P5 (1d20 +5 +2=20)
"yaaa!" i yell, pulling my sword in closer for a defensive position while trying to eye up what's going on. "you coward goblin rat! come back here!"
where are all the remaining goblins at on the grid?
Jeslara "Jessa" Eventide
With goblins seemingly falling all around her from the slashing blades of Eugen and Kenzo, Jessa keeps her concentration focused on the fleeing drummer. She slips past the table where she'd taken shelter and skirts the furnaces, feeling the roaring heat on her face. Hurrying to catch up, she sees the goblin bard has almost reached the doors.
"No!" she screams with her dagger poised to throw. She closes her eyes and lets the arcane magic of her divination take over. The knife leaves her hand with hardly a thought as she hurls it with all her strength...
Jessa's thrown dagger attack with true strike bonus and long-range penalties... (1d20+2+20-10=32)
OOC: Holy sh-- ! A critical threat on a natural 20!
Roll to confirm critical threat... (1d20+2+20-10=30)
Awesome!
Damage rolls, including critical hit... (1d4=3, 1d4=4)
Oh yeah! ::insert Angelina Jolie voice:: Who's your daddy now?
Of course, Jessa acts after everybody else, so Gyorgy or Magazin might wind up stealing her thunder. But that's got to be the single coolest moment for Jessa to date. Somehow I can't help shake the feeling that she's now due for a terrible rash of dice-rolling. Maybe she should have saved this good karma for something more important down the road. :-)
DM Wicht
Eugen's sword dispatches yet another goblin but as this one falls, the molten glass he was carrying brushes the rags he is wearing and they go up with a blaze. The little beast shrieks once and then is engulfed in flames.
Somehow I can't help shake the feeling that she's now due for a terrible rash of dice-rolling. Maybe she should have saved this good karma for something more important down the road. :-)
Of course, who ever said the bard was running away... Maybe he just wanted to open the door? ;)
And in addition to the War Chanter, there is still the goblin at (L,3), the one that just tried to throw glass at Kenzo.
Eugen Enescu
Of course, who ever said the bard was running away... Maybe he just wanted to open the door? ;)
well, i figured he was probably about to go fetch someone or send a signal, but wasn't sure that my character had totally figured that out other than a vague feeling that it was bad to leave survivors.
Jeslara "Jessa" Eventide
Of course, who ever said the bard was running away... Maybe he just wanted to open the door? ;)
OOC: Considering the rate at which Eugen and Kenzo have started dropping the bard's colleagues, I doubt he was running out for coffee. ;)
And in addition to the War Chanter, there is still the goblin at (L,3), the one that just tried to throw glass at Kenzo.
Drat...I thought the bard was the last one. But I guess Jessa would've targeted him anyway, since she started out with that intention when she cast true strike. But maybe Magazin or Gyorgy can deal with the one at (L,3)...
Kenzo
Kenzo moves as close as he can to the bard, around the left side of the tables, and throws his sword as hard as he can at the fleeing goblin.
Wicht, can you roll for me? I'm at a conference, posting from my phone, and can't cut or paste. +3 to hit, +1 bless, -4 melee weapon, -6 range penalty = -6 total, right?
Magazin Fibros
I charge the goblin flinging glass and swing my heavy mace!
Charge on the remaining Goblin and damage if necessary. (1d20+2+1+2=9, 1d8+2=4)
DM Wicht
Crap! We cross posted! Any way you'll let me use my roll? I like it just a bit better ;
Sure, what did you get?
Found it...
The sword flies through the air and hits the goblin warchanter.
Magazin, meanwhile misses but Jessa moves forward and in a beautiful throw skewers the bard just as he is reaching for the handles of the door. He falls to the ground.
Just Gyorgy I believe.
Kenzo
OOC: You know...I fail to see that you're suffering from any kind of bad luck...in this encounter, at least. Of course, having said that, the gaming gods will surely turn on you now. ;)
Yeah, I'm gonna have to go back and read that combat clean through. Aldern, who? Let's hear it for tag-team Jessa & Kenzo. Keep those kisses coming.
Gyorgy Elberion
DM Wicht
The goblin, struck by the arcane missile and suddenly realizing that it is alone, cries out in the goblin tongue...
Then with a determined look on its wide mouthed face, it bites its tongue, pulls its shield off its back, strikes a dramatic pose and tries to attack Magazin with a dog-slicer.
It misses.
Jeslara "Jessa" Eventide
Then with a determined look on its wide mouthed face, it bites its tongue, pulls its shield off its back, strikes a dramatic pose and tries to attack Magazin with a dog-slicer....It misses.
LOL! How...underwhelming. :D
Jessa targets the remaining goblin with another enchantment to keep it off-balance and aid Magazin and Eugen in their fight. Then, she moves towards the end of the room to guard against any more goblins who might be headed their way. 'Come on,' she tells herself, 'You can handle whatever comes through that door. Just remember those goblins on the street during the Swallowtail Festival...'
Jessa casts daze (DC 14) on the lone remaining goblin as her standard action (though I suspect he'll be long gone by the time she gets the spell off), then uses her move action to move closer to the doors the bard sought to use in case reinforcements might arrive from there.
Magazin Fibros
When it gets to my turn I will...
Hit the Goblin in front of me!
Attack on the Goblin and damage if necessary. (1d20+1+2=18, 1d8+2=8)
Jeslara "Jessa" Eventide
If Magazin drops the goblin (and judging by those rolls, he should!), Jessa will opt for a double-move to the other side of the room instead. That should put her at (a,6) next to the bard...and able to retrieve her dagger and Kenzo's sword, if necessary.
