I pushed the button and elected him to office, and
He pushed the button and he dropped the bomb.
We pushed the button and we watched it on the television,
Those motherf@#@ers didn't last too long, huh.
I'm sick of hearing about the haves and the haves and the have-nots.
Have some personal accountability.
The only problem with the way we're doing things is
The more we let you have the less that I'll be keeping for me.

Bring me my broadsword and clear understanding.

Take women and children and bed them down.

Bring me my broadsword and clear understanding.
Bring me my cross of gold as a talisman.
Bless with a hard heart those who surround me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind. Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on for the motherland.

Is that not Broadsword, the best Jethro Tull song EVAR!?

Yes indeed. You spelled Sharona wrong, but either way.

Damn. My internet was down all day and I missed some lyrics I actually knew. No One Knows and See You in Hell.

Oh well, at least I was here in time to answer for Broadsword.

Let's see...for my next set of lyrics, how about this:

There are no fingerprints
Deep under water
Nothing to tie one to a crime
And if you seek vengeance
All you need are instruments of pain

i'm with you brother!

here is one of my personal favourites...

; Its snowing outside the rumbling sound
Of engines roar in the night
The mission is near the confident men
Are waiting to drop from the sky

The blizzard goes on but still they must fly
No one should go where eagles dare
Bavarian alps that lay all around
They seem to stare from below
The enemy lines a long time passed
Are lying deep in the snow

Into the night they fall through the sky
No one should fly where eagles dare

Theyre closing in the fortress is near
Its standing high in the sky
The cable cars the only way in
Its really impossible to climb

They make their way but maybe too late
Theyve got to try to save the day

The panicking cries the roaring of guns
Are echoing all round the valley
The mission complete the make to escape
Away from the eagles nest

They dared to go where no one would try
They chose to fly where eagles dare

Scarab Sages

Many Songs I've written
About the Things I saw
My Inner Soul's a wasteland
I can't run away from here
Try to find them
All the Thoughts lost in my mind
I woke up on a hill
So many Times before
Yesterday seems like a dream no more
Frozen memories laughing
They don't let me find the truth
Am I born to be a king
Or a jester of the fools

Awww crap. I shoulda known that one. Got away from the computer a couple days and missed it. feytharn's got a Blind Guardian tune, but Ill have to listen to my cds for a bit to get which one it is. Mr Shiny's got another one of the NIN Year Zero cd...uhhhh pass on that one for now too. Man there's been a lot on here. LOVE that Maiden song. Going to try to see them this next tour, they're doing up the stage like the Powerslave/Live After Death look!!!

Ill be back after Ive had some Dr Pepper and look at these others again. Rock on!
**EDIT**
And, I feel horrible to miss the Stones song a couple pages ago. "Some Girls" is one of my favs (Shattered, Respectable). My all time fav of theirs is a cheat "Hot Rocks 64-71" which is like a best-of the early stuff. That song isnt one Ive played a lot, I guess. But Ive youtubed the vid and its really a funny song...British faux-blues group singin all country-like.

So, what do we have to figure out? shadowcat has one. Is Lisa's covered? Talesin has about 3, Kendrick too, and maybe Mr Shiny.

I have no clue on any of the ones left hanging (even after a Dr Pepper). Any hints on those? (Ill have to listen to the NIN/Blind Guardian cds tomorrow or next day for feytharns/shinys.)

So, how about:

Father wears his Sunday best
Mother's tired she needs a rest
The kids are playing up downstairs

Sister's sighing in her sleep
Brother's got a date to keep
He can't hang around

Shadowcat, your song is "Black No. 1" by Type O Negative
drunken_nomad, yours is "Our House" by Madness

I was turning

Alright, can't sleep now...Here's two more:

Stay on the course to pass
You'll never find the answer
To a place where darkened angels
Seemed lost and never found
Scream to see the light of
Forming figures fast behind you
Lay the past in the wind to spin
And your fate will sail beyond the open plains
Sail with angels onward
Live or die for the chosen one said
Saber sights cast a spell behind you
And they lock in all around

Free the scene insider
Never looking back to find why
Ride a course till the end of time
And you'll stand atop the gate
Laying waste in a path recited
Fighting force won't avenge the guided black wing
Oh, electric might poses fright inside me
Seeing light at the end of sight reminds me
I've passed away

and...

Down from the glen came the marching men
With their shields and their swords
To fight the fight they believe to be right
To overthrow their overlords

To the town where there was plenty
They brought plunder, sword and flame
When they left the town, it was empty
And the children would never play again

Is that really it? I didn't recognize the lyrics, nor have I ever heard that song, but when I saw the lyrics my first thought was ROB ZOMBIE!

Weird.

I think it reminded me of Black Sunshine by White Zombie. Could be why.

Maxslasher26 was right about broadsword. The second and third songs are both by poets with bad voices that sing. The first is from an album about a variety of mules.

What's he building in there?
What the hell is he building
In there?
He has subscriptions to those
Magazines... He never
Waves when he goes by
He's hiding something from
The rest of us... He's all
To himself... I think I know
Why... He took down the
Tire swing from the Peppertree
He has no children of his
Own you see... He has no dog
And he has no friends and
His lawn is dying... and
What about all those packages
He sends. What's he building in there?
With that hook light
On the stairs. What's he building
In there... I'll tell you one thing
He's not building a playhouse for
The children what's he building
In there?

Now what's that sound from under the door?
He's pounding nails into a
Hardwood floor... and I
Swear to god I heard someone
Moaning low... and I keep
Seeing the blue light of a
T.V. show...
He has a router
And a table saw... and you
Won't believe what Mr. Sticha saw
There's poison underneath the sink
Of course... But there's also
Enough formaldehyde to choke
A horse... What's he building
In there. What the hell is he
Building in there? I heard he
Has an ex-wife in some place
Called Mayors Income, Tennessee
And he used to have a
consulting business in Indonesia...
but what is he building in there?
What the hell is building in there?

He has no friends
But he gets a lot of mail
I'll bet he spent a little
Time in jail...
I heard he was up on the
Roof last night
Signaling with a flashlight
And what's that tune he's
Always whistling...
What's he building in there?
What's he building in there?

We have a right to know...

The second was first sung in the sixties by someone who named himself after an Irish poet.

Lost in a sea of combat boots,
Flush the bouncers with wasted youth.
When did punk rock become so safe?
When did the scene become a joke?
The kids who used to live for beer and speed
Now want their fries and coke.
Cursing and flipping birds are not allowed,
In fact let's keep noise levels down.

Why don't we put pads on the kids?
Helmets, head gear and mouth pieces?
Then we could pad the floor and walls,
put cameras inside bathroom stalls.
We make sure only nice bands play,
Make every show a matinee!
Teach kids to be all they can be,
And we could sing my country 'tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty, YEAH!

When did punk rock become so safe?
I know it wasn't Duane or Fletcher,
Who put up the barricades.
Like a stake in the heart,
Somehow we got driven apart.

I want conflict! I want dissent!
I want the scene to represent...
Our hatred of authority,
Our fight against complacency!
Stop singing songs about girls and love!
You killed the owl! You freed the dove!
Confrontation and politics...
Replaced with harmonies and shticks!
When did punk rock become so tame?
These f+*#ing bands all sound the same!
We want our fights we want our thugs!
We want our burns we want our drugs!
Where is the violent apathy?!
These f+$#ing records are rated G!

When did punk rock become so safe?!

And I missed a Lizzy song. LOVE those guys! HERE'S a link to one of my all time fav clips of theirs. Turn down your sound before clicking, it's LOUD!

crowdosi also had Gillan's Sabbath doing up Trashed! (Tequila is too rough for me any more, though) Then we started on the whiskey just to steady our brains 'cuz there was no tequila

Taliesin, those are great clues. First is Tom Waits and second is Dylan, right? Unfortunately, Im not up on either of those artists. I only know the hits of Dylan, and I dont think the lyrics are from one of his 'biggies'. My friend in K.C. plays me Waits every time we get together, but most of his are too depressing for me to listen to them for very long. The only one of his I know is "The Piano has been Drinking". Is that it? The dude is a hell of a character actor as well. (Loved him in Mysterymen and Rumble Fish).

Mr Shinys newest one was on the other thread, so I had looked it up for that one. NOFX "Separation of Church and Skate". Great Song!

Too much keyboard. Keyboard sounds cool, but they use the old 60s sounding keyboards. The only song I really care for by them is Peace Frog.

Nice choice :oD

they do have a knack for evocative lyrics...

Laying low in a blood filled trench
killing time 'til my very own death
on my face I can feel the falling rain
never see my friends again
in the smoke in the mud and lead
the smell of fear and the feeling of dread
soon be time to go over the wall
rapid fire and the end of us all

Whistles, shouts and more gun-fire
lifeless bodies hang on barbed wire
battlefield nothing but a bloody tomb
be reunited with my dead friends soon
many soldiers eighteen years
drowned in mud, no more tears
surely a war no one can win
killing time about to begin

The rhythm looks abhorrent, but it works once you know the song:
Clock is ticking while I’m killing time
Spinning all around nothing else they can do to turn it back
Breaking partnership in this crime
Ripping up the past, condescending smile

Skidrow's monkey business from 40 seasons... are these guys still out there??? any joy on my one from earlier? here is another snipet...

My man was workin at the seafood spot
Sellin fish n chips and dealin bags of pot
Dressed in a pirates uniform and all
Lookin like a fool headin for a fall
He was walkin home late one night godbless
Heard the scream of a woman in immediate distress
He answered the call heart beating in his chest
he headed down the alley hoping for the best
he saw the girl who was screamin her mouth beat shut
two guys standin by her bout to get f***ed up
he said you don't hit the b*tches while I'm still alive
stabbed on in the neck the other in the eye
the girl ran home told her daddy she was saved
by a pirate with a shiv and a real smooth way
the vision of the pirate would surely never fade
so she called the New York post and tried to get paid

super hero your my super hero
super hero your my super hero

Missed a Skid Row song, dang. That second record of theirs was too cool. They said they were going to make a harder record and they did.
Dunno any of the ones out there now, so Im adding one that only has a few lyrics, but ROCKS!

I sneak in my own house
It's four in the morning
I had too much to drink
Said I was out with the boys
