One of my players is playing an elf and we're both trying to get a good background story going but we're already stuck! Where would an elven wizard be from? I read that there is a forest with Elves on Varisia but he would like his character to come from an elven village, are there villages like that hidden in the forest or around Varisia?
I was thinking of placing it just behind the forest myself but would appreciate some info about this.

Where would an elven wizard be from?
You should probably have his character be from the trading town of Crying Leaf on the edge of the Velashu Uplands. That would put him just inside the Mierani Forest near the Velashu River Valley that eventually leads down to the seedy coastal town of Riddleport. Presumably, he would have caught a ship from there to Sandpoint before the campaign kicks off.
If he's also interested in having attended an elven school of wizardry, there's the Tower of Stars on the haunted fringes of the former elven city, Celwynvian. The elves fled the "City of Emerald Rains" because it's fallen under "the deepest of shadows." So the Tower of Stars is probably one of the last bastions of elven might in that area.
Hope that helps,

Where did you get this info from?
The section on Elves and Wizards in the Rise of the Runelords Player's Guide. You can snap up a copy pretty cheaply here. And aren't the PDF versions still free? It pretty much gives you small snippets for any type of character background your players may be contemplating. It shipped free with the Pathfinder subscription.
