Just had an Erdinger Pikantus, a dark, bock wheatbeer. It didn't taste very wheaty but it was rich and warm. Strogner than I usually drink at 7.3%
Am now tucking in to Fuller London Black Cab Stout which is toasty, semi-sweet and has a bitter finish you might not expect form a stout. Not a creamy stout (I don't like creamy stout) and jet black, like a porter in that sense but definitely a stout flavour. 4.5%
Should note that I have a cold but currently seem decent beers.

An old friend started playing PF with my group recently. He's been bringing Lowenbrau with him. I label it as a good game drinking beer- light, smooth, and goes down easy. Outside of the game, not as good. I can have one or two but then I need something with some real "taste" to it.
If that's the US variant, I'm not surprised. It's watered down.

I drink whatever's cheap enough to afford and sitting in front of me.
I genuinely think that's a real shame.
Whether you drink wine, beer, spirits... whatever.
There is a lot more to beer than getting drunk, people who appreciate beer still get the drunk experience: they're not missing out on anything.
It's just that they're getting extra stuff as well.
And you've basically just said that you will drink things which actually taste unpleasant. I have no idea why anyone would do that.

Well, I personally drink to get buzzed. I don't like being full on wasted, but I do like being a little woozy.
That said, I live on a Job Corps center. We are not allowed to drink on center, and I'm not going to go and get kicked out over a beer or two. So, there are limited occasions when I am allowed to drink. When I am in one of those situations, I take what I can get, which, with my low income, isn't generally the expensive stuff.

Well, they're just varying degrees of drunkeness.
What's cheap isn't the same as what's in front of me though... I guess I'd rather drink good stuff less often but I'm not in a place to judge.

Was gifted with a new (for me) beer today - Troegs The Mad Elf Ale: Ale brewed with honey and cherries.
A cheerful creation to warm your heart and enlighten your tongue. Fermented and aged with a spicy yeast, this ruby red beer delivers subtle cherries and enticing aromas.
11% ABV.
Can't wait to try it.

Ate at the Portsmouth brewery yesterday. Had a beer called "vanderbarl" basically a microbrewed light beer. Not bad for what it was. I just picked up a new Harpoon mix pack, "IPA Adventure." It contains the standard IPA, the Rye Harpoon, a Black IPA (haven't had their's but I love black IPAs), and a White IPA. I had their 100 series White IPA which was ok and I'm assuming the two are the same. I'm not a fan of white ales in general. I've also been drinking Sierra Nevada's Ruthless IPA which is delicious. This winter I've been flipflopping back and forth between German lagers (Weisenstaphner and Hacker-Pschorr) and any rye IPA I can find.

Tried it. Didn't like it. Reminded me of cough syrup.

That's too bad, sounded interesting though. I typically don't like honey, even mead, but I do love Dogfish's Midas Touch. 2nd worst beer I ever had was a local barleywine that had honey in it.

Oh, I love mead - mostly because I make my own. I've even got a batch going right now. Put it down last May and will drink it this May.
Midas Touch is indeed FAWESOME!.
Barleywine's are hit and miss. I've had some good ones, and some truly terrible ones. One of the best I had was brewed by a buddy of mine.

I've found that barleywine's can vary, especially with their intensity, more than other beer styles. Sierra Nevada makes a very drinkable Bigfoot Barleywine. One of the local brewers, Smuttynose, made a beer that was a cross between barleywine and hefeweizen. It was...ok. There is a company in NH, Moonlight Meadery, that makes their own mead. Lots of different types. I have a ginger one in the fringe and a coffee one. Coffee one is pretty good in small quantities. I haven't tried the ginger one. Originally bought them to have when watching Game of Thrones, but ended up drinking Sam Adam's Wee Heavy and Midas Touch instead.

I like you John Benbo - and your love of beer. I promise, when the zombiepocalypse happens, we'll eat you last.
Thanks! I when the zombieapoacalypse does happen, I plan on leaving a beer bloated corspe behind.
Also, I feel like doing a McKinnon's run tomorrow during dinner break and seeing if they go anything new (and stock up on my Weisenstaphner). Besides being a good place to get beer, it's right around the corner from an excellent roast beef joint.

Shandy would be the right term for citrus mixed ales (being predominantly British[ish]); Radler should be the correct word for lagers (being predominantly German[ish]).
Ever had Rauchbier? Not a fan, myself, but having lived in Bamberg, Bayern, I felt like I had to at least try it.
Sam Adams recently made a rauchbier for either their summer or fall variety pack. It's pretty good, but then again, I like smoked beers quite a bit. Harpoon made a smoked porter for their 100 barrels series years ago that was delicious. Another one I had was from Saranac, but that kind of tasted a bit like bacon. I still have a smoked porter from Stone (I think) in the frig. Might have that this weekend.

The popular Rauchbier in Bamberg was Schlenkerla Spezial and it tasted a lot like drinking a ham.
I can't decide if that's awesome or disgusting but that's probably the true original rauchbier! The ones I've had (except for the Saranac) definitely don't taste like ham. The worse beer I've ever had was the Sam Adams triple bock which tasted like thick, maple syrup.

Picked up an interesting beer by Dogfish Head- "Robert Johnson's Hellhound Ale." Named after the famous blues musician, it's brewed with lemons as a tribute to another bluesman, Blind Lemon Jefferson. Not something I'd buy normally (sounds like a shandy), I'm a fan of Robert Johnson so I thought it be fun to but Robert Johnson on vinyl and drink a beer named after him.

hm, I know of it but I think I never had one, outside of Bamberg they are not common even here in Germany
