Here's another oddball theory: Nualia has no birthdate, no parents, and purple eyes. Naffer thinks she's an elf. Hannah is a half-elf, a resident of the town for at least 45 years, and of unknown age (but relatively youthful).

Could there be a familial relationship between the two (i.e., Nualia is Hannah's mother or daughter???).

My plan with Hannah is to side with her, explaining that the group seems to be obsessed with this whole Nualia thing, which Salome doesn't even understand, when what they should be worried about is the evil growing under the influence of Lamashtu, as evidenced by the subterranean shrine. Is there anything Hannah could tell Salome to convince her companions that they should be looking elsewhere?

But right now, it looks like the group is eating dinner together at the White Deer Inn. Now's a good time to plan strategy and examine any other questions that haven't been answered (like, what's up with Zantus's squirrelly acolytes?).

I'd really like to know what stands out to the rest of you in the clue list.

I doubt that one. I got the sense that Nualia was decidedly not an elf. Some of the townspeople have suggested she might have been related to them...or some other fey creature...but mostly, I took that as an indication that no one really understands her true origin...just that Father Tobyn took her in. And, although things seemed normal on the outside, something must have been wrong. Either Nualia came from a bad seed (i.e., there's an evil influence to her origin) or circumstances at home led her in that direction. It's clear that she's crossed over to an appreciation/devotion to Lamashtu somehow.

Dreamer wrote:

Reverse psychology. I like it. Where everyone else has failed in their diplomatic approach, Salome may get better traction by going that route, especially since you already have a lot in common with her. It may be worth a circumstance bonus or something to deal with her on that level.

Dreamer wrote:

Well, let's start stringing some clues together:

Dreamer wrote:
• Hannah's story: Nualia died in the fire. "There was nothing left of her but bone and ashes. The fire must have started in her room." That's why there's only one body. Then changes subject and dismisses group. -- p. 11

I think this one matters. We know that Hannah believes Nualia died in the fire...or she's lying and knew there was no sign of Nualia after the fire...in which case, that might implicate Nualia as the source of the fire that burned down her adoptive father's cathedral. I fully believe we need to ascertain if Hannah was complicit (or assisted?) Nualia either prior to the fire or afterward...i.e., does she know that Nualia is alive?

Dreamer wrote:
• Ameiko: "Nualia was an orphan. Taken in by Tobyn, she had a good home and a good upbringing. But she was different, too. Her eyes were bright purple and her features were not quite human. There were awful rumors about her: that she was a fey creature of some sort abandoned by her parents for looking too human. I did not know her well. Few did. She was very distant." -- p. 22

Conclusion: If Nualia had "awful rumors" circulated about her, she may have built up some resentment towards the town. It depends on the nature of those rumors and their severity. But, ultimately, if Nualia did survive the fire that claimed her adoptive father and put such a damper on the entire community of Sandpoint when they lost him and the cathedral, there had to have been something driving her.

Now try these clues in rapid succession:

Dreamer wrote:

• Examining sketch of Nualia: "If these marks mean what I think they do," he points to some rough marks on the girl's belly (you are not sure if they are meant to be scars or are simply ink smudges), "our Nualia may have gotten deeper into something than she intended. Yes this is indeed ill news. That mark may be the sign of Lamashtu - the brood mother of every hateful and vile thing that stalks the dark places of the world." (Vesh) -- p. 21

• The letter Tsuto had Vesh deliver to Ameiko says, 'she has come to collect her father as payment' and warns that the city will burn. -- p. 21
• Goblins tell Ehlissa: (1) "mean lady," half-elf, and Ripnugget gave them orders to burn down the town and destroy the glassworks; (2) pretty "mean lady" has a claw on her arm; (3) Ripnugget is Thistletop chief -- their chief; (4) "Thistletop to north of longshank-town. It on island! Thistletop island! Through Nettlewood! Careful or you get nettle in your Ow!" (Ehlissa) -- p. 18
• Quasit's greatest hits:
"...I am well favored of the Mother - for she has sent me a daughter to serve me and do my bidding." -- p. 35
"She [the daughter-servant] has gone forth to free the spawn of Yethazmari - a champion to our cause - from imprisonment in the realm of my former Master's rival...." -- p.36
• Naffer's description of Nualia: "...I don't think she was happy. Always with the Father, always studying; nose to the books, as they say. He had great dreams for her, great expectations. But I don't think she shared them. Told me once she couldn't wait to get outta Sandpoint; to see the world. Pity she never did." -- p. 48

Clearly, we've now found evidence (both from Tsuto's journal, the goblins, and various assumptions about the quasit's words to us) that Nualia is a lot different from how the townsfolk seem to remember her. Whether she started down that path before the fateful night that the cathedral burned or only discovered it after she left town, remains to be seen. But again, the fact that she seems to be leading the effort to establish a goblin army to raze Sandpoint...and presumably encouraged the initial raid on the Swallowtail Festival by Tsuto as a precursor and distraction to recover the bones of Father Tobyn...that can't be good. Going back to the quasit's words about Nualia presumably being a "daughter" sent to her by Lamashtu...as well as the markings on the sketch that Father Zantus examined for us tying Nualia to Lamashtu...as well as the disturbing drawing of Nualia's arm looking somewhat demonic in nature...perhaps we can draw some conclusions that she's seeking to not only free some minion of Lamashtu's to unleash as a terrible force on those she seems to hate...but also to physically change herself (much like the mutant goblin, only more dangerous) into a demonic Lamashtu-inspired creation as well. That seems to be the primary threat that's developing somewhere around Thistletop.

So, clearly, our road leads to Thistletop. And we just need to prepare ourselves ahead of time so we can take advantage of whatever information we can learn about Nualia (her past, her weaknesses, etc.) before facing her. I also think we need to reexamine the information you got out of the goblins from Thistletop. That too should help prepare us. For instance, I notice from your clues that one of them said something about the Nettlewood being dangerous. Zieke will certainly take heed of that with his outdoorsman abilities. Also, I think we need to re-examine Tsuto's journal regarding whatever allies he may have described in Nualia's little army. We've eliminated the quasit (thank Sarenrae!) but there might be other adversaries we'll need to prepare for...

That's about all I can suggest...and clearly, this is OOC rather than in-character, because I don't know that Zieke would pick up on all of that. This is just me, the player, trying to lay out things that hopefully your characters (I'm looking at you Sli and Vesh!) can pick up.

My two-cents,
--Neil

Thinking out loud...
I don't see Hannah as a bad guy or even, necessarily, as a co-conspirator. Whatever she did 5 years ago, she probably thought was the right/best thing to do at the time. But now, it has gotten severely out of hand, and if she is aware of the her part in it and the consequences, she probably feels very guilty and has no incentive to disclose it to anyone, least of all our group of "busy bodies." But if she thought she could get some kind of redemption, or set things to right by sharing her information, then she might be more inclined to do so.

Besides Hannah...

Someone sabotaged the north gate, allowing access (via ladder) to the graveyard. I'm wondering if one of Zantus's acolytes (Fillan, the nervous one?) was roped in to this.

Zieke should have local/nature knowledge of the Nettlewood. Or he can talk to Shalelu about the lands round about.

Not explicitly about Nualia, but here are a few things the quasit said that make more sense now:

"I am queen of this shrine and favored of the Beast-shaper..." -- p. 34
"I am free to do as I please with my servants. As to my reward, I am well favored of the Mother - for she has sent me a daughter to serve me and do my bidding." -- p. 35
"She [the daughter-servant] has gone forth to free the spawn of Yethazmari - a champion to our cause - from imprisonment in the realm of my former Master's rival. -- p. 36

Beast-shaper = Lamashtu
Mother = Lamashtu
Daughter = Nualia -- somehow influenced by the quasit? (How did she convert to Lamashtuism anyway? I wouldn't be surprised if she came across the MofL and was taken in. We've seen how that can happen.)
Spawn of Yethazmari = unknown, yet, but likely some creation/monster of Lamashtu (Yethazmari being another aspect of Lamashtu); could be gnolls or Yeth (demon-dogs) (Zantus, p. 39). I'm wondering if the dog in the giant's eye socket (Naffer's vision? p. 47) was a Yeth? It sounds like this is an enemy, singular.
Former Master = Alzanist
Former Master's Rival = Karzoug the Claimer, Runeloard of Greed (Sandpoint is on the border of the two runelords' kingdoms)

The Old Light (lighthouse north of town) may play a part in our journey to Thistletop. It may be an artifact of Alzanist (and therefore evocation-related). (Brodert Quink's theory)

I wonder if it would be possible to get a copy of Brodert's map. JSL?

I agree on just about all counts with your thoughts.

Dreamer wrote:

I'm thinking that was probably Tsuto. He could move much more freely about town than the goblins he led into the Glassworks. Dressed as a commoner, he'd have been able to sabotage the north gate. Or, for all you conspiracy theorists out there, Tsuto could have potentially bribed one of the guardsmen or local criminal elements to do it. He probably wouldn't have even had to explain why he wanted the gate to be left open if he paid them enough coin. Or, even worse, Scarnetti might be involved...though I admit I think that's probably stretching things.

Dreamer wrote:

Looking back, I kind of wish I'd taken some ranks in Knowledge (local), just for general purposes. He's got Knowledge (nature), but I think Knowledge (geography) might have helped him know more about the Nettlewood and the goblin situation...

Dreamer wrote:

I think this is spot-on. Either the Milk of Lamashtu or close proximity to the shrine itself must have affected Nualia. We already know from everyone that she was "different" somehow as a part of her own origins. As a result, maybe she was more susceptible than most? In addition, I suspect Hannah's involvement with Nualia may have preceded the fire at the cathedral. Maybe Salome should establish how well Hannah knew Nualia prior to the fire? If they did know one another, we'd have to ask ourselves why the two would be such fast friends when everyone else says Nualia was "distant" all the time. To me, I'd assume it had something to do with an ill-timed or ill-fated pregnancy because of Hannah's profession. On top of all that, if you figure Naffer shared that Father Tobyn had "great dreams" and "great expectations" for Nualia...if he learned of her pregnancy (again, an assumption on my part), that probably wouldn't have gone well. And, if Nualia already was chafing under her adoptive father's teachings or restrictions, presumably she would've been the one to start the fire...both as a means for lashing out at him and leaving Sandpoint and her prior life behind...all in an effort to embrace Lamashtu. I can only assume that Nualia somehow found her way below the Glassworks, encountered Miss Quasit, and that either initiated or completed her conversion to Lamashtuism.

Dreamer wrote:

I agree that the "Spawn of Yethazmari" has got to be some sort of Lamashtu ally or servant that Nualia has been tasked with freeing. We already know these Runelords were powerful wizards. Presumably, one of them must have trapped, summoned, or otherwise imprisoned this "spawn." And now that Nualia has consulted with the quasit and charted her own course into the Lamashtu faith, she's got to be carrying out her goddess' will at this point...but it probably coincides with a desire to inflict more pain and suffering on Sandpoint for whatever perceived slights she continues to hold from her time living there. Again, maybe Hannah can shed some light on exactly why Nualia turned out the way she did...

Dreamer wrote:

Given that Quink believes the Old Light was an artifact of Alzanist, I'd assume it's tied somehow to the ruins below the Glassworks rather than Thistletop. After all, it would seem that Thistletop is probably a ruin associated with her rival, the other Runelord. My fear (and I believe Zieke would quickly jump to this conclusion) is that if Quink is right and the Old Light was once a weapon of some kind, Nualia may be trying to free this "Spawn of Lamashtu" in an effort to return him to the shrine below Sandpoint...and the connected ruins...so he can activate the Old Light as some kind of doomsday weapon to totally eradicate Sandpoint or bend its entire population to Lamashtu's will.

Another two-cents of supposition,

Hello all,
Yes, I'm still here (Sortof)
If by 'here' you mean having evacuated again to Oklahoma!
Waiting to see when we can return, and THEN have to wait to get re-scheduled for cable/internet/phone hookup, so i'm still spotty for this week.
But dry. ;)

The move went ok, as well as expected with only one other person helping me move a house-full of furniture!

Luv the conversation vis a vis the hannah/Nualia/lamashtuu interconnection!

Thanks for the well-wishes Dreamer & all!

Laters!

Rags --

I'm glad you're safe and dry and have a home to go back to.

I'm also glad that I live in earthquake country rather than the hurricane zone!

Rags: good to know that you're high and dry. Stay safe and don't hurt your back moving all that furniture!

Hey! I just saw PsionicFox post to another thread. I dropped him a line--nice to see him around. I wonder if Talion09 is out there still? Last I saw him post was in mid-August.

We could have a reunion! Oh, the stories we'd tell. The name tags. The "spouses discouraged" dinner. Wait, where am I?

Psionic Fox...we meet again! Good to see you around. Still miss Naelah, man. How are you?

I'm good. I have a new job, which I'm enjoying (despite being back in retail). My body has healed pretty well from my accident, which is awesome. And yeah, I miss her too.

Kinda hard to bring her back into the fold now though :P.

BTW- to any who read this (For this group or any group I am currently (or was) a part of) my MSN address is zzorander[at]hotmail[dot]com.

So...what did I miss?

Lol.

PS. It gladdens me that you're okay Rags - I'm really glad that the only place we get hurricanes is in Darwin, and I live on the other side of the country!

Hey, PsiFox is back! Woo hoo! Howdy!
Um, ok, noiw I know I blinked and missed something, (Or just forgot in the time that passed) But,... What accident?!? And I'm glad your ok!

I drove back up to Tulsa (Jenks actually, my mom moved! :P ) to weather out the storm. I'm back now. New House had only minor damage as best we can tell. Siding pulled off from right under the roof, (Brick house otherwise) and found a few shingles in the yard. Could be mine, could be the neighbors. Found out we are on the same gris as teh hospital across the street, so power is not going to be a major concern! :)

Still have to wait till Saturday to get Cable/INet/Phone on at the house. So will be spotty till then as I only have access at work. And THAT has it's own problems!
(My pit pump stopped working, and my Orchestra Pit is a swimming pool, and the roof leaked all over my BRAND NEW cyclorama! sheesh!)

Will be back ASAP, promise!
Thanks for all the well-wishes guys and gals!

Ah, I never got to Tulsa, furtherest north I went was OKC. Glad to hear you're safe.

The closest I ever got to being in Oklahoma was having a minor role in the chorus. (Tornadoes scare me even more than hurricanes.)

You either have a long memory, or just trawled through the thread again.

Either way, I salute you.

Anyway, I had to leave my old job (as it was only accessible via stairs), and spent a while recovering. I started a new job in April, which I'm going pretty good at. I work for GAME, who sell computer games/consoles, which is my other love besides RPG's.

I remembered because that all happened around the time I joined the game. And a motorcycle accident is pretty serious stuff. I heard it said that wearing leather biking gear is like wearing leather armor: it won't protect you from getting injured, but it will keep your body parts from being scattered all over the road!

And I have been trolling old posts lately (see the previous page for lists of clues we've come across).

It's not like I send him grocery lists or anything. :)

Seriously, I decided when I started that I would play the game like everyone else and post game-relevant stuff on the forum (regardless of whether I know the DM personally or not). Off-line, I might ask JSL for rules clarifications or discuss the merits of this feat vs. that feat (because he knows the game and its mechanics inside and out and I don't), but 98% of the time, I keep personal stuff out of the game.

And, given our busy lives, work schedules, and tag-team parenting, some days, it's amazing we actually get to see each other in person!

I think we have a busy DM. When we move to the next morning, I'd like to talk to Hannah. I'm also interested in everyone's ideas piecing together clues. (I think we've come up with some good ideas so far.)

Dreamer- I was raised in Tulsa, AKA "Tornado Alley". I sleep through tornadoes. They just don't scare me like they should.
Now hurricanes,... Let's just say the concept of having to swim to safety, THAT bothers me! :P

Psifox,-
When it comes to trolling old posts, our Dreamer makes Google look like an amateur!

Glad to hear your back up and at'em!
(Your story reminds me of the time my dad escorted me to my flight (Pre-9/11), he set off the detector and was about to be ambushed by 3 security guards before I reminded him he was wearing his false leg!)
(I never claimed my dad was the sharpest tool in the shed,...) ;P

I for one would be glad to welcome back Psifox/Nealah to the party! (Though I can see JSL pulling out his hair already, 'I have to rebalance for a group of how many?!?' ;)

As far as the game(s), please don't let me hold you up!
Writing for Slidell 'properly', (IE=Full-Blown & Long-Winded) requires a certain amount of time in front of the PC I just don't have right now. When I get home access restored this weekend, and my daughter FINALLY gets her oft-hurricane-postponed Bday party on Sat., I can get back to my usual late-night novels! :)

I think we have agreed that we need to talk to Hannah, Get together our gear (IE=Items, scrolls, etc) And visit a little mayhem to a certain rock by the name of Thistletop.

So, On with the Interrogation! Er,... I mean asking the nice lady questions! ;)

We also still need to identify certain magic items and divvy loot. I've leveled up Vesh, but there are holes that'll only be filled one I know how much cash he's got.

I vote for doing as much of the loot selling/divvying/magic-IDing off camera as possible.

Okay. Does anyone have the loot-list readily available? I seem to remember having a lot of it recorded on Vesh's character sheet at one time, but not all of it. Didn't we consolidate it here a few pages back? If one of you has it handy, please post it. Otherwise, I'll do some digging...after I get a cuppa java.

Once we see the list, if Rags can comment on this thread where we are in the identifying phase, that'd be great. (I really don't want to go back and re-read the game thread to figure this out. Lazy, remember. Though occationally I do have to do work at work. Why not today?)

Then we can decide what to keep/sell/burn/smoke and be done with it.

Try pg. 41...somewhere around Aug. 4th.

Thanks NSpicer. Here it is, again:

So here is the loot list (all prices are what you could get for them):

8 everburning candles - 50 gp each (to light, you must apply flame; to douse, rub the wick with your fingers - just like regular candles).

7 books from the study - value unknown, not that you are likely to sell them, but if so, you could probably get no more than 100 gp each from a collector.

glasses worn by quasit - value and function unknown. magical.

mithral ranseur - 1000 gp if sold, but the mithral could be used to make a light armor or heavy shield. Of course, it can also be used as a masterwork ranseur.

3 gems from Lamashtu statue - 150 gp each if sold; but count as 300 gp worth of material for magic item creation.

jewelry box - locked, and clearly not empty. The box itself might be worth 5 gp.

dollhouse furniture - 15 gp; probably of more sentimental value than actual value.

silver mirror - 25 gp. mundane.

skull goblet - value and function unknown. This was used as a brazier in the quasit's nest. magical.

skull w/ 7-pointed star - 15 gp (who would want it?) mundane.

2 knives from Lamashtu statue - 600 gp each. These are kukri. Each is masterwork and silver. One does an additional 1 point of fire damage and the other does an additional 1 point of cold damage on a hit. Both do an additional 1d6 points of the relevant energy damage on a confirmed critical. I think only Zieke and Ehlissa are proficient, so this is kind of a bummer treasure in that sense. However, I will allow that for 500 gp in materials and 4 craft points (each), the enchantment can be transferred to other masterwork blades.

jeweled dagger (found at runewell) - 200 gp. It is masterwork.

quasit's flamethrower - value unknown. You do have a pretty good idea of what it does, but not enough of an understanding to set fair market. If you sold it as a "wand of burning hands", you could get 500 gp for it.

Also, don't forget your 2,000 gp payout from the mayor.

Please let me know if I've forgotten anything. ~JSL

Yes, but...

...only inasmuch as we can keep the current group here intact for it...i.e., I know Arctaris is superbusy already both running and playing in several games. I'm not sure if he'll be spread too thin for it. And since I wanted to run it using the Pathfinder rules, I wasn't sure if it would appeal to Fabes...who's also in multiple games and wants to explore 4e more than PRPG. I'm okay if they can't make it for a CotCT game. But knowing the rest of you, in terms of your style, commitment, posting rate, etc., I'd like to make sure everyone else is interested.

I think the rest of you stated you'd be up for it. JSL and Dreamer are expecting another little one in their family, however, and we all have real-life demands and work and what-not. So, I'm not in any rush to begin a CotCT game until everyone is ready for it. And I figured all of you would let me know when that moment arrives.

Make sense?

Two games is a lot for me right now. I might be more open to another game, say in January, after all the fall and winter holidays are done. I should be finished with my required hours by then and starting to study for my exams.

PsiFox: upgrade Naelah to fourth level for starters. I'm one of those types who finds having multiple levels in the party more annoying than not. I don't know what to do about gear, other than to say that I havent' given out much treasure to the others either, until just recently. If you can track down our craft rules and come up with a level 2 or 3 item which Naelah could make, that would probably be best.

NSpicer: Regarding CotCT, the 3e character classes I'm most interested in playing are Beguiler and Duskblade, which I know is sort of obnoxious since you want to try the PF rules. I'd be willing to play them using the 3e class rules, though - even if they end up underpowered. Alternately, I could play a barbarian and see if I can get my charge damage up in the 250+ range... ;)

All: I will update the game thread tomorrow. Just to get things moving again, I will make some assumptions based on your latest discussions regarding the loot. I will provide info for Thistletop and start the conversation with Hannah. I want to get Naelah back as quickly as possible. I thought about having her locked in Hannah's basement, but she's already gone through that once. So instead, why not have her meet Vesh, Mal, and Sli at the Dragon after they unload the loot?

I think that conversation can begin anytime.

I'll see what I can do. I've upgraded her to fourth level now though.

How much time has passed since (in game terms) since Naelah was rescued from the basements of the KGW? I'll assume that she's been convalescing for that time, as I'm guessing that it's only been a few days (like two or three?) since those events, right?

Hmmm...I don't actually have any of the books for the Beguiler or Duskblade. Essentially, if it's not SRD/OGL, I tend to overlook the other class options because, as a freelancer, I generally try to stay focused on the stuff that can see print outside of WotC.

For JSL:

Spoiler:
Are you familiar with the storyline for CotCT? It's a mostly urban-based adventure with the PCs pursuing the adventure path out of devotion to Korvosa and the city's people. So, according to the Player's Guide, character options that start out there will work the best. The adventure eventually heads into Shoanti territory, too, and although you might normally assume a barbarian concept could work really well off of that, there's been a longstanding history of bloodshed between Korvosans and Shoanti, so it would be more problematic (though not impossible!) to work that concept into the game.

Isn't Naelah a druid? Given that we're about to head for Thistletop, perhaps she exited Sandpoint to investigate the surrounding countryside in an effort to learn where the goblins came from? That way, maybe she can serve as the catalyst for anything more Zieke needs to learn about the part of Varisia?

Just my two-cents,

Cool, welcome back Neahlah!

Wow,...
Alright, You're gonna LUV this one!

So, since I was switching from my Apt to my new house with the Cox cable service, it seems that they consider me a 'new' client,...
GOOD- because I qualify for discounted 'new client' rates,
BAD- because due to 'Act of God' conditions, they CANCELED all 'new' install services, and didn't bother to tell me! :P

So, not only am I now (After calling them again!) on a waiting list with an UNdetermined amount of time to get my 'new' services installed,... Because they Canceled my 'old' services, I lost my phone number too!

And had to cancel the daughter's b-day party AGAIN, due to post Gustav family problems, no one was going to be able to make it. And NOW it looks like IKE may cancel it AGAIN! SO needless to say, she ain't happy either!

Somedays, it just doesn't pay to get out of bed,...

So, I'll be checking in from work once daily after I get my actual work done.

Sorry guys and gals, but it's not my fault, I swear! ;)

Oh, Psifox, Sant@ compiled all of the house rules for this thread, including item creation rules, into a single thread HERE

Laters,...

That sounds like something she would do. I can see it's been about 6 days since the group went through the Glassworks (where they found Naelah), and I'm going to assume that she has spent time both recuperating and searching for the goblins.

At this point, I don't have any more info than what has currently been discovered (IE. Naelah knows the goblins retreated west along the coast, and found signs of heavy traffic near a good-sized forest).

So, unless JSL gives me any more info, that will be all she can tell you (apart from knowing the lie of the land a little better).

My assumption is that Ehlissa and Salome aren't far away; maybe they stepped aside to converse, or perhaps Naelah didn't recognize Ehlissa's new haircut. :)

I'll go along with whatever.

Here's one for Rags:

Spoiler:

With Naelah and Salome in the same party again, we have "Wind" and "Fire" -- who's going to be "Earth"?

I have my side of the conversation with Hannah for the next morning written, ready to go once JSL has a moment to move the earth from night to day for us.

Sorry, I didn't see that! Otherwise she would have greeted her sisters first!

Anyhow, It's good to be back - hope you like the returning post.

Love it Psi!
Here's hoping my humble contribution to Neahlah's return adds a smile to your day as well!

At least it's not as long as the FIRST time they met! ;P

Hey Sant,(or was it Dreamer?)
In your copious spare time, do you want to re-post our last agreed upon loot/money/item distribution? I think were all pretty much agreed, I just get the feeling that were all trying to be nice and not all say 'I'll take that!' ;)

So, I think we've agreed on what to keep and sell. (So we know how much money we actually have!) Lets finalize what were doing with the Kukris and weapons adjustments. Then who gets to use the 3 stones to help reduce item creation costs, and we can finish our shopping/items from there?

Heh heh,...

Yep.

Well,...

MOSTLY,...

;)

Hey! (Supposedly) good news!
I'm SUPPOSED to get my I-net/cable/phone back tomorrow! (With my original phone #!)
I'll feel like part of the world again!

Um,... just in time for it to get knocked out by all the rain from Ike, but hey, at least I'll have it for a day! ;)

Dark Archive

It really pains me to say this, especially after participating in this game from the beginning and devoting a lot of creative energy into writing Vesh. But, for reasons that I really do not feel like going into on a public message board, I am retiring Vesh and withdrawing from this game. Suffice to say that my real life relationships need more attention than I have been giving them, and I also need to take some time for introspection (what a cliché, but it is true)—time that cannot be devoted to escapism and entertainment.

I have posted a final IC post for Vesh that just doesn’t do him justice, but I can’t really devote a lot of time for crafting a more fitting farewell.

I apologize for the suddenness of this all and for the lack of a specific explanation—you all deserve more. This game has meant a lot to me. And, though I don’t even really know your names for the most part, I feel like you are my friends—as virtual friendships go—and I have enjoyed this game, and all of your superb writing, very much.

D&D will always be a part of my life, and I hope to return to the forums someday. My attention just needs to be focused elsewhere right now.

As for the 4E board, I am determined to finish what I have started and will DM that game until this first encounter with the Hobgoblins is finished. After that, I am withdrawing my participation in that board as well. I’ll say more about that on that discussion thread--perhaps tomorrow.

Again, my apologies for how abrupt this all is. Good luck with Hannah, Nualia, and (hopefully) the Runelord himself.

Yours,

John

John,

All I can say is that I wish you all the best. I hope that everything goes, and comes out, well.

I understand your not wishing to explain more in a public forum completely. I know you well enough to not need more than that.

I will truly miss you and your absolutely superb creative writing. You gave me a level to attain for.
As little as I know about some of you, (And some MORE about others!) I also consider you all my friends. You cannot spend as much time as we have devoted this past year to a project like this, and not develop friendships.

Again, you take care of yourself and yours, and know that the thoughts and prayers of I, and the rest of your friends, go with you.

Good luck and Godspeed.

Ken

John/Vesh,

Mate, it has been an honor, and a privilege to spend parts of my days with you on this, and it saddens me, now that I have returned, for you to leave. I can understand your wishes, as much as it hurts to see you go.

I hope that, in time, your days are brighter, and your burdens easier to bear. I am sure that (if I can use myself as an example), you would be welcomed back with open arms at such a time as you choose to return to us here.

There's not much else I can say really, other than that you will be sorely missed, and that I wish you the best of luck, wherever your journey shall lead you.

Yours,

Damian.

John,

I hope things will seem brighter for you in the days ahead. We will all be thinking of you, and I understand. Recently I have been through a dark time, but have emerged to find that coming out the other side held a wonder I could never have dreamt of. I hope you find this also.

We shall all miss Vesh's frown, and I will always recall with a smile the dramatic scrapes he got into in combat, and Ehlissa will miss him too.

Take care,

Chris

Wow. I know I missed a deadline on Sunday, but I was rather surprised to see all this.

John:

I'm sorry you have to bow out. It has been a pleasure to have you in the group. Between your consistent, thoughtful, and purposeful posts and Vesh himself, you both will be sorely missed. Vesh was an interesting, complex, and very realistic character and I was having tremendous fun playing off his personality - both his strengths and flaws. I think if there was a "face" of the party, it was him.

I always knew I could count on you to remember a key spoiler, hit an important DC, or make a lucky guess.

What are poor Shayliss, Ven, and Horatio to do without their favorite paranoid Varisian to torment?!?

Regarding the continuation of the campaign, I have also been having some unexpected (although not serious) demands on my leisure time over the last six weeks or so: having to accomodate my wife's schedule by leaving work early and bringing work home 2-3 days a week; the baby-sitter flakeout of late June; a poorly-managed project for an out-of-control client; inconsistent help from staff at work; incoming baby; and now having to juggle our cars around repaving on our street.

None of those amount to the seriousness of hurricane evacuations, job changes, or family problems, but they have still negatively impacted my ability to run the campaign.

We have managed to limp along, but it really has been little more than a limp. While I expect my consistency to improve over time, it will probably not be back to a post-a-day for at least four weeks and maybe more like eight.

Given the demands of participating in several campaigns, I am wondering if we should put this one on hiatus for a couple of weeks to give our full attention to the 4e encounter. That will also give me some time to reshape story elements that I had hinged on Vesh and determine what the party needs moving forward. I will hold to my commitment to finish this module, but it is going to be rough for the foreseeable future.

Also, I would appreciate if others would chime in with an honest assessment of their desire/ability to continue.

I will probably not be able to post again until Friday. I will try to get a short post on the 4e game before then if my turn comes up, but the rest of my week is as good as shot.
