The-Last-Rogue's Dungeon Master
As Bobek crouches forward he sees, not too far from the edge of the forest-shrouded lake, a fox. The animal has large ears and bright orange fur and appears to be bleeding, its hindquarters caugh fully in the jaws of a crude iron trap.
Bobek make a DC 14 Reflex save
Success
Failure
The-Last-Rogue's Dungeon Master
I forgot one of the Prime Directives of D&D: 'Never Scout Ahead' :-)
Just so you know, and for future reference, I use a spot check for Rogues and Scouts to notice traps . . .your spot check was 14, DC was 15.
Bobek howls in pain causing the wounded fox 10 feet away
to flinch and whimper even louder. Before the group can react an arrow comes slicing in from the east. 1d20+2 = 20; Damage = 2 The arrow buries itself with tremendous force into Bobek's shoulder causing another cry of pain.
Spot Checks all around DC 15. Success:
Someone roll initiative for everyone; the surprise round is over
Bobek
Bobek spins around in horror, futilely clutching at his gory shoulder and straining against the iron trap claws. Blood spatters everywhere, in his hair, in his eyes. The lad fails to see anything except the dark void of unconsciousness threatening to engulf him in it's silent embrace. "Ack. My... my shoulder! I'm hurt... bad..."
1 HP left. Spot Check 4 + 6 = 10
Chalen
Sorry for the hiatus, had a bad allergic reaction to something. Looks like I got back just in time.
Spot Check = 3
Chalen looks in the direction indicated by Bobek.
"I don't see anyone, but that arrow didn't fly by itself. Let's see if I can make myself a little useful regardless."
Chalen steps between Bobek and general direction of the unknown assailant.
Chalen makes a few cryptic gestures and stumbles through the words of what appears to be a very difficult spell (DC8 Caster Check = 16). Where before he stood alone, now there are 5 identical Chalens blocking the path to Bobek (1d4+1 Images = 4).
The-Last-Rogue's Dungeon Master
Another arrow bursts out of nowhere every round an arrow attacks, make a dc 14 spot check. If successful, refer to the post a couple up.
The arrow 1d20+2 = 14,dmg = 6 bursts violently through the throat of the image nearest to Chalen, dissipating that particular image. 3 images left
The onslaught does not quite seem over, with a loud cawing a pair of razorcrows dive in on the group. They come screeching in talons outstretched for the attack. The birds are obviously trained. bird #1 - 1d20+5 = 16, DMG - 1d4-2 = 1; bird #2 - 1d20+5 = 22, DMG - 1d4-2 = 1 The first razorcrow tears the eyes out of another illusion in gruesome fashion. 2 images left ; the second razorcrow also bursts through a figment dispelling it as well. 1 image left. [ooc] Lol, they had killer attack rolls, but poor random checks . . the spell, it works!
Bobek, then Malleon
Malleon Harper
Malleon fires in rapid succession, directing a single arrow at each of the razorcrows that are seemingly attacking Chalen.
Rapid Shot:
1st Arrow: 1d20+2 = 18 1d8 = 4
2nd Arrow: 1d20+2 = 10 1d8 = 7
*I'm assuming that the Razorcrows are not within 30' feet of Malleon? Otherwise, please apply the +1/+1 from Pointblank shot to my results.
The-Last-Rogue's Dungeon Master
Bobek can scramble behind cover, but it would be total cover which would mean that you could not attack back, unless you left it; you pretty much dart behind a tree
Malleon, you are within 30 feet of the razorcrows, so I will figure in the bonuses. But I will also be subtracting the - 4 penalty for firing into melee without the benefit of precise shot.
Bobek, thankful for the rush of healing, arms his shortbow and dives behind the nearest tree to avoid further arrow fire.
Malleon smoothly releases two arrows in a matter of seconds, each hoping to pick off a single trained razorcrow. The first arrow comes close but sails harmlessly past the bird, the second arrow is even less effective.
Oso's go.

Oops, didn't think about that. Precise Shot is probably my feat at second level, lol

DM Spoiler
From the SRD, Action
Varies. Every time you have a chance to spot something in a reactive manner you can make a Spot check without using an action. Trying to spot something you failed to see previously is a move action.
Chalen
As Bobek no longer seems to need a human shield.
Failed the spot check again (at work, had to use the suck roller) = 8.
"At least this thing isn't difficult to see."
Both Chalens fire a crossbow bolt at the remaining crow.
1d20-2 = 12
The-Last-Rogue's Dungeon Master
Chalen's bolt goes sailing well past the bird, with no chance of harm. However, as if in response, an arrow comes streaking towards Chalen, but falls well short of its mark 1d20+2=6. Still the threat of the trained razorcrow looms, its wild caws causing the trapped fox to whimper pathetically. The bird strikes at Chalen. Chalen (or his image) prove to quick though and with a deft swipe of his crossbow forces the bird to change course 1d20+5=7.
It is now Bobek's turn
Bobek
Seeing his "human shield" under attack, Bobek will spring into action, and race from the tree in a wide arc behind Chalen - dodging and weaving to search for the perfect angle and finally unleash an arrow at the remaining bird.
Ranged Attack 12 + 2 = 14
damage = 5 + 2 (Skirmishing) = 7
Malleon Harper
Sorry for the delay, I was busy at work (I'm working evenings Pacific time, so thats pretty late for those of you on the east coast) Plus I got seriously distracted by the Open Call for Gamemastery Authors
Spot Check 1d20+3=5. Malleon still has no idea where the arrows are coming from, lol
Malleon tracks the last warbird in flight, and unleashes another volley of arrows in hopes of bringing it down.
Rapid Shot again, with Pointblank Shot.
First Arrow 1d20+3 = 14 Damage 1d8+1= 2
Second Arrow 1d20+3 = 18 Damage 1d8+1= 5
Down to 34 arrows in my quiver
Oso Legumbe
Oso turns on the other razorcrow and slashes upwards as he leans low.
Attack Roll 6+3=9
He then tries to spot the archer and his tree.
Spot roll 16+1=17
He points his longsword at the goblinoid and smiles. "You're next."
The-Last-Rogue's Dungeon Master
The hobgoblin realizes the gig may be up. He hops down from his tree and sprints to the east. The hobgoblin is now 70 feet away
The razorcrow still dives at Chalen, its talons outstretched 1d20+5 = 17; Damage = 1. The talons rip a large scratch along Chalen . . . his image anyways, as he is now the only Chalen left. Bird attacks and destroys final image.
Bobek's go
Bobek
Bobek looks where Oso points, sees a Hobgoblin with a bow, feels the throbbing pain from the arrow in his shoulder, and quickly pieces all the facts together.
"That bastard shot me!"
Bobek tears after the fleeing archer and unleashes another arrow from his shortbow while on the run.
Move 30 feet and Ranged Attack: 14 + 2 = 16
Damage: 4 + 6(Skirmishing) = 10
Malleon Harper
Bobek sprints forward, hurtling over underbrush. With one fluid motion he fires and arrow that catches the hobgoblin square in the back. The goblinoid is knocked forward, falling to the forest floor, dead.
Oso's go. The bird yet lives.
Isn't it Malleon's turn after Bobek?
"Nice shot Bobek!"
Assuming its my turn:
Rapid Shot again.
I will hit this bird eventually, lol
I'm including Pointblank Shot & firing into melee
1st Shot 1d20-1 = 10 Damage 1d8+1 = 8
1st Shot 1d20-1 = 17 Damage 1d8+1 = 4
Arrows left in quiver = 34

Yes it is your turn. I was just testing everyone. Good job. ;p
It takes another two arrows, but Malleon is able to fell the final razorcrow.
It is 5:30 at night. The shadows are starting to deepen. You have about an hour and 15 minutes to get to the grove of Elderwood trees. Everyone receives 80 xp.
