The creature slithers its way agiley through the attacks. The whole time its beady eyes stay on Malleon, completely unblinking.

Bobek's go.

M Human Scout1

The shouts of Malleon startle Bobek awake. "Danger!" He rolls out of his blanket, ignoring the stabbing pain in his wounded shoulder.

Seeing a slithering, scaly horror writhing around Malleon, Bobek grabs his trusty shortbow and strings an arrow while rising to a crouching position.

I'm guessing that's all I can do this round, as that's several move actions, and it's hard go right from deep sleep to attacking something...

Louinor's go.

Barbarian (berserker) 3; Init +1; AC18; Hp 36/41; Saves Str +5, Con +7; Passive Perception 9

This comment refers to this afternoon and comes from Louinor's better half on his own pbp.

"FYI Dreamweaver and I will be gone this weekend due to my 10 year class reunion sorry for the inconvenience. We are leaving tomorrow afternoon."

That may be for the best. I have friends from my hometown visting me this weekend, my mom flying in from Virginia, and I am neck deep in a short story revision. We will pick up the encounter on Monday. Have a nice weekend all.

The Exchange

I have a day off to DM a group of friends (2nd level) in Temple of Elemental Evil campaign. I've set up part of the village of Hommlet and it's about to get attacked during a festival..... thank you Paizo.

M Human Scout1

I finally scored a Wii. There goes my weekend.

Male Human Unfortunately, I appear to be an Expert, not anything cool :-(

lol

My friends from out of town brought one to my house this weekend. My first experience with it. Very cool. Though I think I threw my arm out playing tennis.

Female Human Cleric 1st

With a start Louinor jerks out of her bedroll reaching for her weapons "What... who... a crap now a giant snake!!"

Malleon uses his automatic success, initiative is as follows:

Malleon
Bobek
Louinor
Wyrm
Chalen
Oso

For everyone but Malleon, you need to make a DC 5 Listen check to wake up. It will cost everyone a move action to get up on your feet. The wyrm is about 15 feet from everyone but Bobek who could use a 5 foot step (random) and of course Malleon.

Just to keep everything on the same page.

Thanks Oso. I will pick up the Twyrm's action tomorrow morning.

The Dragon-Snake rears back and snaps forward again its fanged maw snapping around the arm of Malleon but unable to puncture his armor. Malleon shakes his arm free. 1d20+5=12; Chalen's go.

Male (5' 11'' 150 lbs.) Human Sorcerer 1

Used a move action on the last page to get up.

I'll use the second half to retrieve the crossbow.

Oso, then Malleon

Barbarian (berserker) 3; Init +1; AC18; Hp 36/41; Saves Str +5, Con +7; Passive Perception 9

"Cursed by the Gods!"

Oso awakens angry at his dreams of oasis and beautiful maidens stopping. He gets up in a foul temper and seeing the dragoling goes red with anger. He picks up his sword two handed and prepares to cut off its neck.

"Cursed or not we fight to the death, wyrm!"

Male Human Fighter 1

"Snake-fiend! Die!" Malleon is getting a little unnerved by the inhabitants of Darkmoon Vale. He'll be "happy" to fight "normal" monsters like kobolds and hobgoblins

Malleon slashes at the wyrm with both his blades, attempting to land a decisive blow.

Hit a 19 with the longsword, and a 13 with the shortsword Longsword damage 6 pts, shortsword 3 pts

M Human Scout1

Bobek will loose an arrow at the creature...

11 + 2 - 4(into melee) = 9

...and then realizing the futility of firing into combat, will drop his shortbow and prepare to draw his longspear.

Bobek wrote:

That same thought struck me as I went for my weapon.

Things begin happening rapidly. Oso awakes with a roar. Malleon goes into a classic double bladed technique opening a gash on the creatures serpentine body.

An arrow flies past the creature; Bobek curses and drops the bow, and picking up his spear.

Louinor's go.

Female Human Cleric 1st

Now with her shield and morningstar at the ready Louinor steps toward the snake thing. She swings her morningstar at the creature as it fights Malleon.
Attack 7+1 = 8

Louinor closes in, but the agile monster slithers to avoid her blow. Don't forget your strength penalty.

Ignoring her presence the creature lunges forward at Malleon again. 1d20+5=10 Malleon is again able to keep up a whirling blade of steel that turns aside the ravenous lizard.

Chalen's go

Male (5' 11'' 150 lbs.) Human Sorcerer 1

"I am really beginning to dislike this place. Is there anything about that doesn't want us dead? Maybe some light conversation over mulled wine."

Chalen fires a bolt at the beast that whizzes ineffectually passed Bobek's ear (Attack = 8 ).

"This thing was so worth its weight in gold...," Chalen mutters as he reloads.

Oso's go

Thats right. Its all skill. Not dependent on bad rolls by the monster at all ;-)

Barbarian (berserker) 3; Init +1; AC18; Hp 36/41; Saves Str +5, Con +7; Passive Perception 9

The raging black barbarian charges in at the beast, "Arghh!"

Using Malleon as the opposite flank hopefully. Attack roll 1+5+2=not enough. Oh dear.

Female Human Cleric 1st
Oso Legumbe wrote:

Oh dear???? not very barbarian sounding :)

Male Human Fighter 1

Malleon continues to keep his blades pumping furiously to deflect the wyrm's assaults with his longsword while scoring a minor hit with his shortsword on a riposte.

Longsword hit a 10, Shortsword hit a 21.I included the flank bonus from Oso. 2 pts from the shortsword hit

Louinor wrote:

Seriously. Lol. Louinor gets a free automatic 20. I don't think I ever gave you yours.

Oso and Malleon unleash a fury of blows against the wyrm. Its thick hide and rapid reflexes help it avoid much of the damage, though Malleon does open another small nick.

Bobek's go.

Back here I had several other choice words flying around, especially when you couple that dice roll with Tuon's in your game at the same time.

M Human Scout1

Bobek bolts across the clearing, skidding to a stop well out of reach of the serpents jaws and claws. His longspear dances in a flurry of jabs.

"Hyah!" "Hu-wah!"

Yay! A natural 20. Score one for the little guy. Critical Confirmation: 13 + 1 = 14. Normal damage is 4 + 2(skirmishing) = 6. If a critical, damage is 21 (2 additional d8 rolls)

Bobek lances in with a vicious jab of his longspear. The point rams in hard to the serpentine monster's neck. Thick blackish blood spurts out in response.

You guys got this thing pretty much surrounded. Louinor it is your turn.

Female Human Cleric 1st

Louinor lunges forward and swings her morningstar at the serpents head missing yet again.
Attack 10 - 1 = 9

Sorely pressed and bleeding, the wyrm still refuses to relent. Again it snaps forward, its green scaled maw opening wide revealing dagger-length fangs that threaten Malleon. 1d20+5=24. Damage = 5; Improved grab grapple = 16.

Let Malleon respond with an opposed grapple before anyone else continues

This time the beast lands a vicious bite and begins curling its body around Malleon.

I got an 11 (1d20+2)... so looks like I'm being grappled :-(

Chalen's go, then Oso. Beware your attacks now have a chance of hitting Malleon.

Malleon attempts to struggle against the wyrm, but its body is pure muscle and easily wraps around him.

Male (5' 11'' 150 lbs.) Human Sorcerer 1

Seeing Malleon in jeopardy, Chalen uncharacteristically drops his crossbow and rushes in to aid him (free + move, wyrm is in a grapple, so no aoo + auto grab).

Chalen attempts to break Malleon free of the Wyrm’s grasp (join grapple (standard) , opposed check = 14 = failure), but fails to get a lock on the thrashing monster.

Barbarian (berserker) 3; Init +1; AC18; Hp 36/41; Saves Str +5, Con +7; Passive Perception 9

Oso anger redoubles.

He drops the blade and reaches for the snake.

"Never! fight me."

As per Chalen, except Oso uses his auto success i.e. Grapple check is 20+6=26

"You are mine, worm."

Male (5' 11'' 150 lbs.) Human Sorcerer 1
Oso Legumbe wrote:

Oh hell, that's brilliant. Completely forgot about using mine. Nice!

Chalen rushes in to grab the wyrm and help wrestle Malleon free, but an idle nudge of the the beasts strong head jolts the sorcerer backwards.

A cry of rage escapes Oso who rushes in and wraps his thickly muscled arms around the beast. Oso now has a hold of the wyrm who still has a hold of Malleon.

It has become a vicious dance of muscle, exertion, and brute strength.

Malleon you are held by the wyrm. It is your turn.

Male (5' 11'' 150 lbs.) Human Sorcerer 1
Dungeon Master wrote:

Insult to injury, rofl!

Male Human Fighter 1

I'm assuming that I am still grappled, but not pinned, after Oso joined in. I'll use my shortsword with the -4 penalty due using a light weapon while grappled.

Malleon strains to get his arm free, then thrusts his shortsword at the wyrm's face. Unfortunately, the strike deflects off the wyrm's scaly hide.

"Argh! I hate snakes!"

Now I wish I hadn't used my auto-success, lol

Malleon find himself ineffective in the beasts hold. Bobek's turn

Barbarian (berserker) 3; Init +1; AC18; Hp 36/41; Saves Str +5, Con +7; Passive Perception 9

"Stop its thrashing tail and the battle is won!" yells the rage filled man.

Oso Legumbe wrote:

"I'll pin it's tail with my spear!" Bobek cries, but thinks to himself I'm not touching that slimy thing unless I have to...

Attack Roll 12 + 1 = 13, damage = 3

Male Human Fighter 1

Louinor's turn, right?

Female Human Cleric 1st

Louinor watches helplessly as the snake thing coils around Malleon.
Do I still have access to yesterdays spells?

Bobek's spear thrust hits, drawing a small line of blood. Louinor's go

Female Human Cleric 1st

Lounior grabs her silver butterfly and prays to Desna, "Come to our aid and fill this creature with fear of you godly might."
