Last night we just had a blast with W1 and I have to post what happened. =p. Mind you I'm a player so keep spoilers out of any responses, and if you're a player in the game this whole post is pretty much a spoiler.
Unfortunately we had three cancellations yesterday so there were only 2 players and the DM. Here are the characters who we began the game with:
(me)Connor - Human Natural Werewolf Barbarian: Connor's family moved into the vale about 20 years before Fort Thorn was established just to kind of get away from things, his parents were a pair of Rangers who were both afflicted with Lycanthropy. Connor was thus born a natural lycanthrope and spent more time out running with the wolves than listening to his parents. Around when he was ten years old, his parents were killed by the Roseblood fey; who took great delight in tormenting the young boy.
(friend)Arselyn - Male Half Elf Bard: 'Arse' (as I called him) came in with a caravan and was interested in the Land, Title and Gold more than anything.
(friend's cohort) Robin - Male Human Scout: Arse's younger brother, came for similar reasons to Fort Thorn.
(my hireling) Ken - 1/2HD Human Fighter: A teenaged porter, he wanted to start adventuring so we gave him the important job of carrying the loot. (Will probably become my cohort after I get 6HD...if he survives that long)
The adventure started out simply enough, the two brothers came into town and got all their info; they were recommended to me by Sir Torlgrith and they found me at the shop selling some furs. We hired the porter and went out to the camp. The arrow was enough for me to know the Fey were responsible and we reported back to Torlgrith. He wanted the Fey problem 'dealt with' and I was more than happy to oblige. We fought our way into the glade (though were able to hear the code word to get past the trees) and made our way down.
I burst through the door into the dinner table and was disgusted by what I saw, I demanded to see their King and they wanted me to go fetch things for them to open the wall of roses. I tried to simply burn the wall down but it didn't work. I then decided to chop one's head off with my trusty axe "Pixiechopper" (a Fey Bane Greataxe that has kept them off my backs the year or two I've had it). Combat ensued, and with their damned use of Suggestion and Sleep keeping me out of the fight (alas I only have 3HD) the Bard was killed. I managed to get up, shake out of it and the rest of us escaped but barely.
We took some rest (food break) and I determined we needed more help. Luckily I knew of a woman who was almost like a surrogate mother to me after my parents died.
(friend's new character) Tyma - Female Elf Druid: Tyma acted like a mother to me after my parents died, and her wolf animal companion is like a brother to me.
We returned to the Fey circle, and with Tyma's wisdom keeping my door-busting tactics in check we went through the bees room, got the roots, then I trimmed some hedges down to get the "blessing of the mother" (The hedges turned out to be Fey children, but I didn't know that) and we opened up the wall of roses.
The King looked at me confusedly and demanded what I was doing here. I walked up to him (already in Hybrid form), went into rage and swung my axe down.
Power Attack for 2
Natural 20. Roll to confirm 18 (+9 to hit). 1d12+16x3+2d6. I did 86 damage. I've never in my life done a better and more fitting critical hit.
The DM told me the King can do Suggestion at will, so I'm damn glad I killed him in that first shot or I was screwed.
We ended it after returning to the Fort to rest and recuperate. Hopefully the other players will show up next time >_> definitely a fun adventure and my first time playing a Gamemastery (as opposed to DMing).

That was some mighty good dice you were using! How come your dmg mod was as high as 14?
Since he was a lycanthrope in Hybrid form and using Rage, I'm guessing his Strength score was somewhere in the 24-30 range. On a two-handed weapon, a 24 STR gives +10 damage by itself. Add +4 from two-handed Power Attack and you've got +14 and a +2 weapon makes it +16. Not so hard.

Actually it was only 25 point buy so my strength was only 16 (18 with ogre gauntlets and 22 after rage), but I had a fey-bane weapon as well.

Coridan,
You'll never believe this but I was recently toying w/ the idea of creating a viable werewolf character, starting at 1st level. It's not going to happen for a while, but I've already laid out the bare essentials (Flan barbarian from the Bright Desert/Greyhawk, stumbles on a cursed item from a deceased Flan deity in old ruins...). Anyway, my ? to you is mechanics: how did you square away the obvious advantages of a lycanthrope w/ a 1st level character? I'd love some suggestions. Thanks.

Weeeeird...
Anywho, the character is ECL 6 (level 1 Barbarian, 2HD of wolf and LA +3)
The DR 10/silver is worth the loss of a few HD and using two of my feat slots for Extra Rage means I can rage 5/day. I think I'm gonna take the next two levels as fighter for Iron Will and Cleave before finally qualifying for Warshaper.
I'm losing out big time in BAB (and thus iterative attacks) but Warshaper will give me
1st level - Immunity to Stunning and Critical Hits
2nd level - +4 STR and +4 CON permanently
3rd level - +5 foot reach (will be getting Combat Reflexes around this time)
4th level - Fast Healing 2
5th level - Shift as a move action
I doubt the module goes up that high but hopefully there will be a follow-up in the Vale like Carnival of Tears is for D1.

There you are! Thanks for the feedback. I see where you're going w/ the idea. One further question: where did you find the (prestige class?) "Warshaper"? That sounds unreal!
I've haven't put my own ideas for my Flan Barbarian/Werewolf onto paper yet, but I'm thinking of something non-traditional. I'd like him to start off as a 1st level character (and thus ECL 1). I might roll out lycanthrope features gradually (e.g., Levels 1-10, DR 1-10, or DR 1/level until maxed at 10th level) to accomplish this. Of course, it might quickly get more complicated than I'm allowing for. Do I make him a straight Barbarian w/ some werewolf features spread throughout his normal levels (and maybe take away something in return)? Or, do I multi-class him w/ Barbarian, and maybe make the Werewolf stuff the equivalent of a Prestige Class (limited to 5 levels)? Too early to tell.

Warshaper is in Complete Warrior (I mentioned that in the post that went wacky, musta forgot to repeat it). There's a way to do racial levels for Lycanthropes here http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/sp/20040117a
Thanks, Coridan. It's been a long while since I pored through CW. Long before I had the thought of creating a barbarian werewolf, that's for sure. But that prestige class is a must! And thanks for the WOTC link reference as well, I'll check it out.
Everyone else: I apologize for the threadjack. I should have started a new topic.
