I just read the news about the bridge collapse in Minneapolis. I pray for little suffering & that all the people are found (I prefer alive, but I know that that is not going to be the case).
I only want to add that I learned to drive on that bridge.
/d
I drive over that bridge every weekend to get to the Source... :(
3 confirmed dead... oh no... :(

I echo AZ's post. This is a terrible tragedy. When I heard about the school bus filled with kids that barely made it across before the collapse, my heart skipped a beat.
They didn't make it all the way across, and a semi tractor in the lane next to them caught fire. I think I read that 4 or 5 of the kids where transported to hospitals, but I don't think their injuries were all that severe.
It will be interesting to see what caused this collaspe. With the aging infrastructure in the U.S., its unfortunate, but we'll probably see a lot more of these kinds of accidents. I know people are worried about the Kennedy Bridge, here in Louisville, KY because some of the bolts that anchor it to its support collums are severely rusted and a couple have snapped. The "experts" tell us the bridge is in no danger of collaspe, but it makes you wonder.

I read that they have video footage of the collapse, which should help immensely in determining the cause or causes. They can use the footage to estimate where the collapse initially began, then cross-reference that with the structural plans of the bridge, previous inspection reports, etc, to get an idea of what happened. Either way, it will be quite a while before anything is known.
In the meantime, I'm sure there will be action taken by state and federal agencies to evaluate other bridges and elevated roadways throughout the country.

Agreed. I've seen some video, but not really watched too much of it yet. From what I read in the local paper, it collasped from the North to the South.

God bless those crazy Americans. After such a tragic event, It seems That many people did not hesitate to help there fellow humans.
Just when I get fed up with humans. especially those arrogant, self absorbed mainland Americans, they do something to high light how compassionate and heroic Amercians can be. Americans always seem to be at thier best when things arround them are at thier worst. I am reminded on how individual Americans, will put thier life on hold, travel 1000+ miles to help other Americans struck by tragedy.
God bless all you Americans who just go and help.

Most of my family lives in the Twin Cities area, and most of them are huge Twins fans. I had to call as soon as I heard about the collapse, knowing at least someone in my family would have been going to the game.
Fortunately all are accounted for.
I too took a great deal of comfort upon hearing how many who fell, and were able to, went right back into the water to help others.
This is a great tragedy, but it is good to know that people everywhere seem to be basically good and willing to aid total strangers when confronted with such a need.
