Hey gang,

Was wondering if anyone else played this and if anyone had thoughts on a different magic system for it

What is this???

Check out Green Ronin's True Sorcery. Very adaptable for True20 and very cool.

It's a sort of alternate d20 system developed by Green Ronin.

I have it and don't like it very much, by it's very nature it's very complex which goes against True 20.

I've played True20 and I ran Age of Worms using it. Or rather for most of it - it seems to break down at higher levels, so my group was forced to switch back to D&D around A Gathering of Winds (after the fight with Ilthane).

As for magic - depends on what you are wanting the spell system to do?

Here is a sample of the game using True20 - and how deadly it can be.

I think its biggest strength is its unpredictability. I dislike the fact that my players know every D&D spell like the back of their hand and know exactly what the effects will be. I'm trying to figure out how to incorporate some of that from True Sorcery into my regular D&D campaign without unbalancing things.

...but, yes...it's pretty complex. You're right.

I played my own campaign world using the Blue Rose rules and thought it was great. The biggest problem I had was with the skills system. It's too complicated and some of my players hated it because they like to spread out their skill points and know a little about a lot.

I like the magic system so far but the characters are only 3rd level at the moment. It seems like it could get too powerful.

Hmm...interesting stuff. I keep considering downloading Darwins World Post Apocolyptic d20 RPG and I noticed that there are two versions one of which is true20. Sounds like true20 is exactly what I don't want in a system. I'll know to avoid it.

You can DownLoad True 20 for FREE - today only on hte Green Ronin Web Site as part of Free RPG day

Just figured I would give you guys a heads up if you wanted to check out the system

Rise. Rise!

Generally I am impressed with True20. One issue I have, which is really a show stopper for me, is Level Adjustment. Anyone know alternative methods for handing races in True20 other than Level Adjustment?

I ran into the same problem converting a D&D campaign to True 20. I was trying to convert the Thri-Kreen (which in D&D is a +2 LA IIRC) to a True20 PC background. I decided since I was converting to a new system anyway I just toned the race down in power but kept as much of the flavor as I could. Some of the more powerful abilities (such as deflect arrows) are favored feats instead of bonus feats.

I have considered a hybrid of Mutants & Masterminds and True20. I prefer the point buy of M&M over Role and Level of True20. I do not have anything concrete right now. More just academic theorizing.
