DragonMirth?

Dragon Magazine General Discussion

Anyone else remember the DragonMirth cartoons in the old Dragon mags?
For those who don't, DragonMirth was the Dragon Mag version of "The Far Side" comic strip- one picture parodies or just plain goofy RPG fun.
Let's bring it back! I STILL get a kick out of flipping through the old mag's to read the DragonMirth. To this day, my group & all others I have played with over the years can laugh remembering those comics.

Liberty's Edge

Y'know, as much as I like the classic stuff, I really think the comics have evolved over the years, from the vaguely fantasy-themed puns of yesteryear, to consistently hilarious fare like OotS and Zogonia. (Phil & Dixie are, however, greatly missed.)

More comics wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing, but if it would be at the expense of pre-existing funnies, my vote is for "no."

I loved Dragon Mirth because it allowed many contributors to see themselves published. Now we have, though not exclusively, slick cartoon spots that poke fun at the roleplaying culture. They are compelling, amusing, and very bright... but sometimes I just want to see some straight fantasy humor, sans the role player interface angle, or iconic reoccuring POV character.

I suppose that the move away from Dragon Mirth does indeed signal the evolution of roleplaying from a once maligned news blurb into a hobby worthy of honest self satire. RPG mags are the only ones who are going to bother spending the time to thoughtfully represent our culture so it's almost a call to arms to do so. Any old magazine can and will publish comic knights tickling dragons, and wizards turning frogs into bombshells.

Looking backward and probably forward as well, I'm a fan of it all.
