Love for our friendly neighborhood Dukes of Hell?

Dragon Magazine General Discussion

Let me first start by saying how much I love the Demonomicon articles. If my love for them were a dragon, it'd be a great wyrm red dragon (whatever that means). I'm relatively new to the whole mythos of Dungeons and Dragons (only been playing for about 5 years) so I'm just learning about all the legends and lore that have been created by this great game. The Demonomicon of Iggwilv articles have been categorically awesome and have helped me a lot in getting a feel for the planar dealings of the Greyhawk Campaign Setting. One of them has even given me the idea for a whole new campaign (I won't say which one just in case my PCs frequent these boards).

Which brings me to my request: I'd love to see a devil-specific version of the Demonomicon. The devils haven't gotten any love in 3.5 (no new devils in MMIII or MMIV, yet a bunch of new demons) except for the new Fiendish Codex II, which of course came out after the demonic version. So please, sate my thirst for Lawful Evil goodness!

I'd like to second that. Except I'll say that my love is much like that of a gelatinous cube.

...

Ew. =/

I agree, too. A "Diabolicon" or maybe even one big article detailing several dukes of Hell would be a great enjoyment.

Liberty's Edge

I'd like to add my voice to the request, a series of devil articles would be most appreciated.

Why not wait until the FC II comes out, which is this month anyway. From the looks of the table of contents (available for download at WotCs website), there will be lots of coverage of the Archdevils and other, lesser devils. If that is the case, then there might not be a need for full-blown, Demonomicon-style articles. Maybe just one article detailing the "Disciple of-" prestige classes. And maybe an article on the Dark Eight, since it looks like they get ignored in FC II.

I have FC2 and it gives a few dozen names on the dukes of Hell (all stated as unique devils), but absolutely no write-ups via "Demonomicon-style" format. We're requesting a "Diabolicon" detailing these dukes of Hell in the same, or similar, fashion as the demon lords.

Yeah, I just read excerpts from the book on WotCs website. No mention of prestige classes, and it looks like there will be no real background on any of the Arch Devils (except maybe Asmodeus). So let me now officially convert to the cause and also calll for the development of a Diabolicon (although we gotta come up with a better name).

There're prestige classes in it. Four to be exact. Hellbreaker, Hellreaver, Hellfire Warlock, and Soulguard.

Part of the question probably is whether there is a similarly iconic figure as Iggwilv (she was featured on the cover of Dungeon for Erathaol's sake) to be put forward as an arch for such articles. Now the Fiendish Codex II has neither supported distinguished mortal sages about the topic, except for suggesting the lore collected by Hellbreakers and the occasional Soulguard, which are quite loosely assembled organizations. It seems only one of those or a devil (an erinyes sage was mentioned) could provide such insight - or at least I cannot make up my mind about others.

The Codex Diabolii. :P
