I wanted to know was how safe people are in the city from bugs, snakes, poisonous creatures, roaming dinosaurs, stray leopards and other nasties?
Are the Sasserine canals safe from parasites, how clean is the water, do you get slatwater crocs there? Are they protected by grills or nets in places stopping most troublesome animals?
Do crocodiles, aquatic monsters, trolls etc ever snatch people from right in the city?
How safe are the skies what precautions have the people of Sasserine made to make sure flying creatures don’t swoop down and carry people of to be eaten in the jungle?
Is it common to wake up and find a spider the size of a dinner plate eating your poor little toes?
How about large insects?

In the real world, in Panama and Costa Rica, I've found giant bugs in the bathroom. I had a goliath beetle the size of a lemon fall on me. I've had an assassin bug land on me.
I was minding my own business, shining my boots in front of a laundrymat, and 3 giant rodents the size of toy poodles snuck up on me. Well not really; they ran away when I jumped up and drew my buck knife. But I didn't know.
But, hey. I'm still alive, and I'm just a 1st level warrior-type, 12-point buy.

And having grown up in Florida, there's a saying that goes like this:
"anywhere outside, in Florida, at any given time, there could be an alligator there." I'm serious. Those canals in Sasserine probably are full of them. There's no keeping them out with grills. They go wherever they want.
And snakes, they're everywhere too.

I thought as much but figured there would be some sort of protection like special anti pterodactyl units of guardsmen or low level druids or mages stationed around the battlements of the cities tallest buildings or what have you?
Alchemical "bug-away" incense and oils, maybe magically treated "dream catchers" only for vermin/snakes etc?
Sounds like it could all make for some fun games, I love messing with the players "ick-factor" when I DM.
Does anyone know how much these alchemical or low level items would cost to make/buy roughly? It would be neat to add these to my game.

It is already out - and it has sections on different hazard different types of cities have - combine that with what is detailed in the DMG II about building cities and environmental factors and you can't lose!

the chance of finding critters in sasserines canals is zilch (in my world) they are filled with filth and human waste.
Not all encounters and dangers are creatures - with the canals so polluted there is a strong likely hood that anyone who goes in could get a disease.
And since I would assume that magic is common - isn't it possible that some creatures do live there? Especially ones that carry disease or are immune to it?
What about gases from this pollution? Do they have any effect on areas or people?
