Hey y'all! The recent Core Beliefs got me thinking and I had a question about the earlier Vecna modules...
Is the wonderfully named 'Die Vecna Die!' a compilation that includes the two earlier modules 'Vecna Lives' and 'Vecna Reborn'? Since 'VL' is set in Greyhawk and 'VR' is set in Ravenloft, I didn't know if 'DVD' is a synthesis and addition to them since it is set in Greyhawk, then Ravenloft, then Sigil, or if it was it's own thing entierly.
Thanks for any illumination you might shed!

Die Vecna Die is a completely separate and distinct adventure. While it covers a considerable amount of space, including locations mentioned in the first two adventures, before finally ending up in Sigil, other than the references to events in the first two needed for the story, it it not a reprint of the first two adventures at all. So you will need all three for your collection.

It's worth noting that Die, Vecna, Die was not taken well by the Planescape community. The events in the campaign didn't carry over into 3E, and none of the Planescape staff had anything to do with it. It's hard to consider some of that canon. Also, the descriptions of the Serpent have been inconsistent. While Monte Cook originally wrote it as Vecna's personification of magic, Bruce Cordell (Among others, but he's made the most) has written that it's an ancient being, which the designers tried to reinforce in DVD.

It's also worth noting that Faction War was taken even less well by certain elements of the Planescape community. That they would object to a follow up adventure that included those changes is hardly surprising.
As for the events not carrying over into 3E, it might not have featured prominently in the past, but it has certainly been referenced recently.
