I'm all about the homebrew but there were some great settings I had a lot of fun with back in the day. Most notably Planescape, Dark Sun, Dragonlance and Ravenloft. I also put in my girlfriend's vote for Planescape.

I've played in a number of settings over the years, but the only two I've ever come to like for RP is homebrew and Greyhawk. I do enjoy the forgotten realms as a setting for computer games but I've never used it or liked it as a player for any of my pen and paper games . . . in fact, until about two years ago, I never DMed anything except homebrew. It's only because of Paizo that I started using the old Greyhawk setting at all.

GH, homebrewed, Eberron and Darksun, although I do have Freeport, Ptolus, a Ghostwalk portion, and the Styes all located in my GH campaign. Added Eberron for my roommate as well.
