Had a few clarification questions regarding Telakin in Hall of Harsh Reflections:
1 How long does it take him to switch from form to form? Is it a free action? This question actually refers to all doppelgangers.
2 In his wizard form he has spells, but unless I'm crazy I didn't see a spellbook lying around with the loot anywhere. Is this an oversight? Or does he know the wizard spells that this particular wizard knew when he ate his brain?
3 When in barbarian form, wielding the +1 Frost Greataxe, what are his attack bonuses? Does it become 11/6 (13/8 when raging?)?

This question was addressed in an earlier thread, but I don't think we've yet had an "official" ruling from the editors. I proposed one approach to solving the problem here:

I assumed changing form was a standard action, although when my group got to him he did get a chance to swich to barbarian form. I put a spellbook in his treasure. I pretty much had his memorized spells plus a couple of spells per level in it. I used this as a way to give a few spells to the groups wizard.

Well, the Telakin battle ended up a TPK. I have to say, I was expecting this to be a tough fight, but not that tough. Can't say that my players are going to be looking forward to fighting the real "boss" of the doppelgangers.
Fortunately, I've been allowing my players to use a "fate point" system which allows them to negate fatal blows. I feel this makes up for the extreme difficulty of the campaign. They get one fate point per level, so no one actually died... But my four players spent a combined seven points on this encounter alone.
