Sodden Hold question

Age of Worms Adventure Path

The Exchange

In the first room of the Sodden Hold, how do the Dopplegangers get up to the elevated walkway? The only ladder (by my reading) is the one that's going to collapse if the party tries it.

I suppose I could explain this by saying that they stack crates up in the main room and climb up.

Can a Doppleganger change into something winged and fly up to the walkway? I must have missed something here.

What I did was get rid of the trapped ladder altogether, and just had a normal sturdy ladder. If you want to keep the trapped ladder, then perhaps the Doppelgangers don't use that entrance and have a secret entrance somewhere else. Or, you could use your example and have them use stacked crates. The players may even resort to stacked crates.

Maybe they just have one of the Mimics turn into a ladder for them.

My theory would be that one of the rungs is designed for a collapse, so the doppelgangers can just skip that rung and climnb up normally otherwise. A Search check can spot the weakened rung and then the ladder can be used ordinarily.

Spoilers

This and a number of other small problems with traps and mechanical devices in Sodden Hold have been pointed out and discussed in earlier threads that are now archived, for those interested. To summarize:

1) the pit trap by the fake door in the warehouse extends into the lower level, if you pay close attention to the descriptive geometry.

2) you need to add a drain sump below the water-filled room in the lower level with a hole big enough for a giant octopus to get through (doesn't need to be too big) and a mechanism for pumping water into/out of the river (in case PCs want to disable device).

3) Zyrxog's secret door needs some kind of interlock switch that prevents opening it when the room behind is flooded and allows the room to be drained from the door.

There may be more items I can't recall off the top of my head, but if you search up Sodden Hold you can see the full discussion.

Thanks a ton Peruhain and others. I'll see what I can find in the archives!
