I'm sorry for the fans , but I think this guy is the most overrated author in comics EVER !!! I red Sin City , From Hell , and my feeling all the way was : graphism is shit , story is always the same , and apart from bloodshed and meaningless cruaulty , this guy just doesn't know how to write and give life to interesting characters.....
So my opinion : dump this guy !!!
Ok I know he has lot of fans , and I expect them to reply as evn if I don't like his work , I respect everyone's opinions !!
See you

Check out the first Dark Knight series, his early run on Daredevil, & 300 (his best in my opinion--its about the Spartans last stand). I didn't care for the Sin City book or film. He's doing a special Batman series that I read the first issue of & it stunk also. He may be living off his laurels, but as I said, take a look at 300 and the Dark Knight.

Reading the original post, it looks like you don't like his artwork...stories that Frank wrote but didn't draw on that you should check out could be:
The second Daredevil series that he wrote and David Mazucchelli (spelling?) drew, where Kingpin found out Matt's identity and nearly broke his will by tearing everything down around Matt's ears.
Hard Boiled is another one that you should read. Geoff Darrow does the art.
Stuff with Frank's art that you should look at:
First DD epic, introduced Elecktra (Electra). Her one shot in Bizarre Adventures is worth diggin around for too.
The first Dark Knight was amazing...DK2 had some weird art things going on.
300 is amazing too. They are making a film of it right now and I wonder how they are going to reproduce the giant oafish dude...forget his name right now.
I happened to like the art for Sin City (as well as the writing). The rain effects should be used in every movie that has a rain scene from now on.
The man does do some over-the-top violence (sometimes just for the violence's sake)...but that kind of stuff grabs you by the throat and makes you want to turn the page to see what will happen to the Yellow Bastard or the final fate of Marv. Or maybe it does that to me...c'est la vie.
"That's the best you can do, you pansies?!?" Marv, spitting up blood, to the executioner.
That line is too cool.

See , that's exactly what I don't like with the guy...I don't mind violence , I'm just bothered and digusted by the way this guys treat violence. This is utterly disgusting and boring at the same time , because Miller is just about aesthetisn...and nothing else !!!! This is empty , deeply and boringly empty....
But that's your taste and I respect that. ;)

From Hell is Alan Moore, so if you want to complain about him you have to complain about The Leauge of Extraordinary Gentlemen, The Watchmen, and Swamp Thing . . .
As far as Frank Miller goes . . . The Dark Knight Returns, Batman: Year One, his runs on Daredevil, 300, and Sin City, in my mind, are awesome works. On the other hand, the Dark Knight Strikes back and a lot of other side tangents by Frank can be . . . aquired tatstes.
For some reason, it seems like some of the comics writers from the 80s really have quirky personalities to go with their talent. Chris Claremont and John Byrne wrote some amazing stuff, and yet, they have both written long winded series that seem to only exist to serve their egos, much like some of Frank Miller's stuff.
If you really want to see some interesting Frank Miller associated stuff, watch Robocop 2 and try to find the stuff that was from Frank Miller's original script and what was altered by the Hollywood types.

ooooh, ooooh, and don't forget about V for Vendetta! Coming Mar 17th!
God, I hope this is a good movie. I loved the series of books when I was in highschool!
I heard that Watchmen got another greenlight for a movie adaptation. That thing is pretty dense...I suppose if someone with enough talent patience and love for the source material came along to direct it, it might turn out pretty good.

Yes, thanks for the respect.
What about 'violence for violence's sake' of Tarantino's work...or Robert Rodriguez' other stuff (not the Spy Kids though). Or Straw Dogs or Wild Bunch or Bring me the Head of Alfredo Garcia.
Or in comics, what about those old EC comix from the 50s-60s from Graham Ingels, Bernie Krigstein, Wally Wood, Al Feldstein? They had some exploited violent imagery.
Or Burgess/Kubrick Clockwork Orange?
I agree there is a lot of emptiness and nihilism in violent media...but sometimes I like to visit that part of myself thru these distractions to keep me from smashing in someone's face down at the convienence store.

Personally, I do like Frank Miller's Sin City books. The art style is great for the subject matter and the guy can really draw. The stories are inspired mostly by noir films and hard-boiled crime fiction, so they can be pretty cliche, but I think he manages to pull something interesting into the cliches he's working with. I do concede your point, though. One of the major things that bother me about Miller's Sin City work is that every female character is a sex object, a villain, or a victim. And they are all on some level subservient or subordinate to a male character; except for Ava, who is a villain. Frank has some women issues, I think.

Hm . . . Frank made Matt Murdock's mother the one that ran out on his father then become a nun . . . Electra was a spoiled young lady that became an assasin for "fun."
Catwoman was retconned to being a prostitute in Year One . . . and she ran a brothel in Dark Knight Returns . . .
You may have a point here . . .
