Question re: racial bonuses and the point buy system

When using the standard 28 point ability purchase method do you add in racial abilities before or after? This can make a huge difference depending on which way it goes.

Thanks!

If I did the point buy system, I'd add it after.

After . . . the bonus to ability scores is a racial bonus that is applied after the scores are generated, no matter how they are generated.

That definitely makes things more appealing for my players. We had never used the point buy method before in over ten years of playing. Because we werent sure no one wanted to play anything other than a human :p

Im sad to say I was mistaken from the Neverwinter Nights game. It adds in racial abilities before you purchase. 2 points to Dex on top of a 16 saves you 6 points. Thats huge.

I'm pretty sure that while they are there when you start character creation, those points do not effect the point cost according to the rules. It shouldn't cost anymore than what the rules stipulate.
