Compleat Encounters: They look reaaaaaaaaaally awesome, but...

Accessories

The Compleat Encounters all look really awesome, useful for the GM on the fly, but I have a question.

It says next to each one in parentheses (OGL).

Does this mean that the products run with the open-gaming license, as in, they're d20 compatible, or are they for a different system?

Yep - (OGL) at the end of a roleplaying product's name on paizo.com indicates it's compatible with, as the non-trademark infriging saying goes, "the Open Game Licensed version of the world's most popular roleplaying game." Similarly, (d20) at the end of the name indicates it adheres to the d20 license.

The only thing keeping Compleat Encounters from being d20 products is that the d20 license doesn't allow for miniatures to be part of the product (with the exception of Wizards of the Coast's own miniatures lines).

WOO-HOO!

Well, there's an addition to my X-mas list!

Thanks for replying so soon!

I wouldn't mind buying the tiles and scenarios for this line to use with D&D prepainted minis but I just don't have the time anymore to paint minis. Any chance that in the future the tiles and scenarios will be bundled and sold separately from the miniatures?

I suppose nothing is impossible, but for the time being the only way to get the Compleat Encounter tiles is to buy the sets, miniatures and all. We do offer GameMastery Map Packs, with the first installment being "Map Pack: Village." We've just approved the proofs for the follow-up, "Map Pack: Graveyard," and both sets are of exceptional quality. We use some of the same graphic artists on both the Compleat Encounter map cards and the Map Packs, so they look just as good.

I purchased the Village set; it's worth the price for the tavern tiles alone. I've also pre-ordered the Graveyard set. The tiles are very convenient, portable, means for setting the scene in an encounter.

Chalk up another vote for just the adventure details sold sand alone. We use LEGO's for all our battlemaps and minis, so we have no use for either minis or the maps. However, I've browsed the adventures at my FLGS and they are definitely on my must-buy list as soon as they are sold solo.

For myself personnaly I have found that Pre-Gen adventures are great for starting points. Take a Complete Adventure and then peak and tweak it to fit the gaming group and session. In fact I have played in games just like that Under Lilith and have found them stimulating and fun especially when she shows us the original plot after our adventure and then shows us the tweaks she has made to them.
