Golmoids v. Warforged

Liberty's Edge

Admittedly, when you lay the stats of the Golmoid beside the stats of the Warforged, they are not equal. Still, they remain comparable and similar in many veins. I'm curious how coming up with the Golmoid race came about. I understand the Warforged race grew from Keith Baker's brain. What of the Golmoid? Does it's existence pre-date Eberron, i.e., am I reading up a 3.5 conversion to an older race?

More so, if a Golmoid and a Warforged were in a tavern sipping oil, how would one regard the other? As kinfolk? Would the Warforged look down on the Golmoid for its origin as a laborer? Would one see itself as of divine origin while minimizing the other simply as a magical construct? The reason I ask these odd questions is that I'm thinking of inserting both into a campaign and would like some ideas on how others might see them relate.

The short answer is that we accepted the article before we heard about warforged. In development, therefore, we had to make the golmoids as different from warforged as possible. :)

The cheesy--but ultimately best--answer is: whatever you say as the DM. If your world includes both how they interact depends on how you say they were created. Maybe they see one another as brethren, and the martial warforged might do their best to protect the laborious golmoids. Maybe they see one another as competitors for the same resources (uh...oil, I guess) and compete bitterly (a competition the warforged probably would win). Maybe they work together, as neither race wants to ever be subserviant again. Maybe they work against one another, although they wish to achieve the same goals.

My guess is how a warforged and golmoid view one another depends more on the individual than on its race. The warforged might look down on the laborer golmoid, who thinks of itself as a divine creation and looks down on the magical construct waforged. Or they might be best of friends. Ultimately, it's what is best for your campaign.
