Name: Krasue Source: Thai Mythology Alternate Names: Cursed Princess (or Prince); Ahp, Palasik, Kuyang, Leak, Poppo, Parakang, and Selaq Meterm. Alignment: Neutral Evil Ecology: Swamp; Solitary (Undead) Communication: none; the only sound it makes it the thumping of its beating heart or the gnashing of its teeth Ability/Skill Focus: Fly (+perfect), grapple (using its intestines to entangle), natural attack (bite + con damage), disease
Note: Light radiating from its mouth causes a dazzle effect.
Description – A faint rhythmic thumping sound grows more prevalent as a disembodied head floats towards you, dragging beneath it a tangle of intestines and pulsating organs. It appears as if a person’s insides were rend whole from their body. Fluttering eyes focus unevenly forward as it drifts nearer. The beating of its heart quickens pace as its intestines begin to flail like tentacles. Its mouth gapes wide and from within a blinding light pierces the darkness of night.
Information – The krasue is a nocturnal female undead/vampire-like creature from Thai mythology. Its disembodied floating humanoid head suspends a mass of internal organs, and it is accompanied by a luminescent glow. It feeds upon the blood and flesh of the living.
The krasue floats about under cover of night, but must return to its hidden body during daylight hours or it begins to die. During the day is remains hidden in a state of hibernation until the sun sets. If a krasue cannot return to its body after a few days the krasue is destroyed. Likewise, if its hidden body is destroyed, the krasue is immediately destroyed. For this reason the krasue hides its body at a location which is difficult terrain for its potential enemies (deep caverns, a forgotten tomb, or buried deep in swamp muck). The head and body do not age, and are perfectly preserved in a youthful state. There are two ways a krasue comes into being – the first being a powerful curse cast upon a dying lady of royal descent, or alternatively, a sorceress suffering a catastrophic failure while wielding powerful primal/wild magic. The krasue can smell the living, and it is particularly attracted to the scent of fresh blood which it can detect in a range of miles with perfect accuracy.

Monster of the Month
To give our subscribers their monthly monster treatment we serve up the highly sought after Monster of the Month. This month I feel like including a small appetizer alongside the main course granting some insight into how we get start crafting our new monsters. Below is the outline and notes gathered by Justin Andrew Mason which were then passed onto Stephen Rowe (Pathfinder) and Chris Harris (5th Edition) for development, Mates Laurentiu handles the artwork also based on notes from Justin, finally Alex Tallon handles our layout and Leonid builds the Fantasy Grounds files. Read on and enjoy the information as well as the downloads for 5E or PF in PDF, Print, Fantasy Grounds, and image files below.
Mythological Monster of the Month #3: Varpulis – Notes & OutlineName: VarpulisSize: Large Humanoid (outsider)Source: Czech MythologyAlternate Names: None. Varpulis is a lesser known minor spirit from bohemian mythology.Alignment: Chaotic Neutral (or Evil, can’t decide) (nature of the storm)Ecology: Any Outdoors (especially stormy weather)Communication: Languages (common, auran) – thunderous, booming voiceAbility/Skill Focus: Supernatural abilities – chain lightning x/day, lightning bolt as a standard action, control weather (constant 2 mile radius), can summon 2-3 medium air elemental minions once per dayCombat: no weapons, natural attack (pummel) or grapple with additional electricity damageSpecial: ability to automatically teleport to the exact location any of its lightning bolts strike as long as that space is not currently occupied.Note: Is constantly surrounded by strong, whipping winds and the droning and growling sounds of storm.Description – From behind the obscuring veil of sheets of rain, a towering obese humanoid figure lumbers forward with its arms wreathed in arcing electricity. Its heavy pants mimic the howls of the raging storm surrounding it as its eyes flash erratically like lightning. With an angry glare, it reaches out and points in your direction, a fury of sparks cascading down from its fingertip.Information – There is actually very little information about Varpulis available. He was a minor deity from what is now the Czech Republic, Solvakia, Lithuania and Croatia. In mythology he is an attending spirit to (and champion of) Perun, the god of thunder. He ran alongside Perun’s chariot, and it is said his breathing was the sound of the wind heard during storms. There’s not really any representation of how the spirit is supposed to look, so I thought of the “sounds of the wind” coming from someone who is always out of breath. I immediately imagined this extremely overweight guy running a lot side his master’s chariot angry and gasping for breath. I then wondered how he could possibly keep up with a speeding chariot, and thought adding the “lightning teleport” special ability was fitting. Even though Varpulis has origins as a now obscure demigod/lesser spirt, I really think pluralizing the idea and making him a monster is fun. I also thought since almost all “tough guy” monsters get the “I’m ripped and spend my days lifting weights at the gym” treatment, it would be an interesting twist to have a completely out-of-shape big baddy.

Monster of the Month #4: Kishi (5E) PDF + Fantasy Grounds

In its natural form, a Kishi has a snarling and salivating hyena’s face on the back of its head and a bestial bipedal body. Kishi are only summoned when mere murder is not sufficient revenge, and the complete destruction of an enemy is desired, a relished task for the narcissistic Kishi.
The Kishi are masters of lying with the truth, and all facts twist and bend to suit their chosen narrative. In this way, the devils can patiently undermine cherished beliefs and self-esteem. While this may incidentally claims souls for the denizens of Hell, these social predators simply take great pleasure in transforming strong-willed people into depressed, dependent husks.
Kishi carefully embed themselves into a target’s life as a friend or lover. From there they wear away at everything good within the target: destroying confidence, alteringmemories, and poisoning all other relationships. The victim grows increasingly reliant on the devil, and certain they deserve the suffering inflicted. It can be incredibly difficult to recover from a Kishi’s physical and emotional abuse, and the devils seldom willingly allow prey an opportunity to rebuild a shattered psyche.

This giant serpent has a third eye and shimmering, rainbow-hued scales. It sinuously moves through the air like it was swimming through water.
The numereji were born from starlight refracting through the first comet’s tail. The rainbow serpents were tasked by ancient gods to seed the cosmos with water and life. Though the beingswho gave the numereji their purpose are now long dead, the world-shapers persist as universal forces of creation and destruction.
The serpents travel from world to world, creating water where there is none, or carving the terrain with erosion. In their wake travel microscopic organisms, acting as the first seeds from which entire ecosystems evolve. Barren, rocky worlds of arid dust might become beautiful and thriving at the passage of a numereji. However, the rainbow serpents wish to shape all worlds, regardless of prior habitation. The darkest among them might wash a thriving planet clean to begin again, and even the kindliest rainbow serpents could unintentionally spread alien plagues.

Monster of the Month #1: Basajaun (5E / Fantasy Grounds)

Product contains: PDF, Fantasy Grounds .mod file, and high resolution artwork. A hulking bipedal figure approaches. It is redolent of pungent musk. Lumbering nearly seven feet tall, the being might be mistaken for a very large human if not for a scant coat of fur. Dark hair (and tangled beard) contrast with its ruddy verdant-toned flesh. The creature moves with cunning and deliberate swagger whilst outfitted with a primitive hide loincloth and crude stone-knapped weaponry. Its wide eyes narrow as its attention focuses on every movement. A dissonance of short grunts call out as it dons an offensive posture.
The basajaun is a caveman like woodland dweller from Basque mythology. The creature was considered to be a protector of livestock, and a teacher to early humans. Legends suggest that the basajaun introduced humans to agriculture, and taught them how to cultivate nature to their advantage. Its name can be loosely translated to mean “Lord of the Forest” and is said to have dwelled within the Pyrenees Mountains. A natural enemy of wolves, the basajaun often befriended shepherds and offered protection to their flocks. Their innate connection as nature spirits also made them privy to the natural world, and distant thunder could be construed as the warning cries of basajaun warning of an approaching storm. Interestingly, some fringe theories suggest that the mythical creature known as the basajaun may actually be a vestigial memories of early Human encounters with Neanderthal, as the Iberian Peninsula from which the myth hails was also one of the last locales the species inhabited before going extinct.
