WHAT THE FRAK Paizo and Ninja Division Games!!! $39.99 + shipping for 4 pre-painted miniatures. Or $79.98 + shipping for both sets. I feel like our wallets are being space hijacked. Get rid of all the extra plastic packaging if it will help cut down on the price. This is going to put a big dampener on those looking to play Starfinder.

It's not packaging putting the price up, it's the choice to go nonrandom and not lose out on quality. Those three factors (high price, poor quality, randomness) are well known to interact in that way - you have to pick one. So far, anyway.
I daresay the demand for Science Fantasy is perceived to be lower than that for Fantasy too. Volume is going to have a huge impact on unit cost for minis, I suspect.

Will these be a part of a subscription service? Or do these need ordered separately?
No subscription options, at least initially. So you should preorder. Note that if you ever do preorder something then before it ships sign up for a subscription that also includes that product, your preorder will automatically be cancelled by the subscription. So it never hurts to preorder.

That price is making the pawns look even better.
I bought the pawns at Gen Con. They are built tough and the art is nice, but a HUGE problem I have with Paizo paper pawns is that when you punch them out, many of them lose a significant amount of their artwork that's left behind on the punch out card. I wish they would cut them in a way to retain all of the art. I'm sure that would significantly increase the manufacturing costs though.

The minis look pretty good to me on these pictures.
I agree on the prices being high, there are other sites where they are cheaper, but Paizo offers a reasonable discount too.

It's not so much the cost, it's a function of the fact that the artwork they use is of varying sizes but the pawns are all identical sizes. If they kept them all "within the lines" then some would be tiny.
There's also the problem that the die cutter shifts around a bit, so they'd have to leave a white border around the illustration and that would make some of the artwork even more minuscule.
Here's one post by Vic about the issue, although I'm sure he's written more.

There are rumors of massive problems regarding the Starfinder minis.
The fact that "Soda Pop Miniatures" have removed all hints of them from their homepage is not very reassuring either.
If i were to bet, i'd say we won't see any SF minis this year, but that's just speculation on my part.
Any news would be much appreciated.

A quick look at the comment section for the kickstarter does seem to suggest that delays are pretty much what folks have come to expect from Ninja Division. There's certainly enough doubts raised to make me want to take a closer look before putting any of my money on the line.

Hey Marco, I believe that they are rebuilding the Starfinder miniatures section of their site now that the Kickstarter is live. And we should have stock of the Starfidner resin Iconic miniatures that were pre-released at Gen Con in a few weeks. They are included in the current Kickstarter campaign but will also be available apart from it for some amount of time. I'm not trying to be cagey, I honestly do not know how long we will have the ability to get stock between now and when the Kickstarter is fulfilled.

Truth. Soda Pop/Ninja Division's history of poor communication, delayed fulfillment, and non-fulfillment means that I'll be staying far away from that kickstarter.
Hopefully Paizo added some kind of penalty clause into their license agreement with NJ to try and keep those problems to a minimum....
Hoping I'm wrong about this.

Are these gonna be painted RESIN or PLASTIC miniatures?
I was somehow under the impression of it being plastic minis, but the more i think about it, the more likely it seems, that they will be made out of resin.
Hey Marco. I'd also assumed plastic (since the unpainted line goes out of its way to emphasise those are resin).
For the clueless, can you explain the difference (I mean the functional difference to the user, not anything technical)?

My experience with resin is limited, but in the cases i saw, it had more details than plastic minis, while being more fragile.
Breakage seemed to be much higher than with plastic minis.
But i guess it really depends on the kind of resin or plastic being used and if it has a protecting clear coating finish on top or not.
For example: the old D&D minis (2003s Harbinger through 2010s Lords of Madness) are made of a soft plastic which just doesn´t break, whereas most of the newer Pathfinder Battles minis are made of a slightly harder plastic, which may break when falling off the table.
I don´t know if the same is possible with resin, but it seems to break most of the time when falling off the table and onto the floor.
I found a thread on the issue.

Hey Marco and Steve. The pre-painted figures will be plastic and the unpainted figures will be resin.

The Kickstarter has reached over $195K and as a result the Vesk fleet & Kasatha fleet have been unlocked.
Sadly Shirren fleet is not yet in sight (goals going up to $225K).
If the campaign will reach $215K, there will also be a second fighter miniature being added to the fleet packs.
That's a good thing even for people (like me) who won't be supporting the KS, because it means that eventually (ETA late 2018 or 2019), ppm minis of these may be offered.

This was one of the reasons I ended up backing it.
I suspect I’ll never get around to getting these painted, but I’m kind of making a down payment on a diverse range of prepainted minis.

pictures of the eight actual Starfinder unpainted iconic minis
You don´t have to log in to facebook, just click on the images.
From the looks of them, i really like the "Sunrise Maiden", as it is immeadiately usable unpainted out of the blister (put on pole, insert pole in hex-base: ready to fly).

Does Paizo Advantage apply to these?
Not on the kickstarter.
I hope quality goes a little up, there´s quite some edges on those minis, but maybe that´s packaging or something and the pics aren´t the best either. The Humble Bundle features an extra version of the envoy mini.
All i can say is, unpainted minis are way better than prepainted ones. You can give them your own touch and painting is the zen of the gamer.

Uh resin. Not a fan. Breaks way too easy in my experience. Not a good thing for minis which will see a lot of play.

Hi Jeff.
A friend of mine got an email from Ninja Division Studios to the effect that the prepainted minis weren't going to be released until March. The reason given was some kind of quality control issue, but from your comment here it seemed that maybe they weren't talking about all prepainted minis..
Are you able to provide any more information? There are these sets but also the various individual minis due for release (the ones previewed at GenCon) Do you know if they've all been delayed until March? Or if the individual figures will be released this year and the sets will be delayed until next year?
Cheers
Steve

I guess i won't be buying any Starfinder minis then and stick to the pawns for special creatures and use Star Wars, Warhammer 40K & PFB minis for the rest.
I already use Battlefleet Gothic, Dropfleet Commander & Full Thrust models for the starships.
I also would be very surprised if Ninja Devision really makes that march date a reality.
The only thing they seem to work at momentarily, seems to be the Kickstarter and the pledge manager has already been moved to january 2018...

The announced delay was just for the prepainted plastics. (You can read more about that here.) The unpainted resins that were offered before the Kickstarter should be arriving in our warehouse imminently.
Terrific. Thanks, vic. I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it once I get a few sets in hand and appreciate the distinctions between the various lines.
