An Endzeitgeist.com review

5/5

This pdf is 4 pages long, 1 page front cover, 1 page editorial/SRD, leaving us with two pages of content, so let's take a look!

Why does this book exist? Well, author Dale McCoy Jr. considers mysteries as lenses through which the oracle should attempt to see life -and at the same time be MYSTERIOUS. Hence, we get two new ones:

First would be the Fitness-mystery, which nets a climb speed, immunity to fatigue (and later exhaustion), +2 to Str, Dex or Con that is later enhanced to +4, +10 ft. speed (and doge/mobility as bonus feats), bonuses to CMB, slow falling, minor natural AC, 1 minute per level sprout bird wings and touches that can decrease a creature's movement and deal 1d3 str-damage to a foe in range and get 5 x str-damage temp HP. The final revelation is awesome and lets you auto-confirm crits, never incur AoOs and doubles the amount of HP you have below 0 before dying.

The second mystery is focused on Joy -why has it taken so long for that theme to be covered? Oo Oh well, what do we get? Bardic performance, inflict sorrow-base debuffs on foes, 1/day heal more hp, buff allies with your presence, as a standard action make foes friendly as if charmed, 1/day freely enlarge/extend spells, gain endurance/diehard/heroic defiance (over the levels), infuse foes with overconfidence, emit damaging, ecstatic screams or grow butterfly-like wings. As a final revelation, immunity to fear and pain, or any emotion-effect you don't wish to suffer as well as cha-mod to all saves and remove negative emotion/fear/pain-based effects with a touch.

Conclusion:

Editing and formatting are top-notch, I didn't notice any significant glitches. Layout adheres to a printer-friendly, no-frills two-column standard and the pdf comes bookmarked for your convenience in spite of its short length - awesome!

Allright, we get two excellent, balanced mysteries for a very fair price - nothing to complain about, the concepts are cool - and we have a winner! No issues, high concepts - 5 stars + endzeitgeist seal of approval.

Endzeitgeist out.

The Fitness mystery? Dear heavens, now I have the image of Richard Simmons as a Pathfinder PC.

I'll definitely be getting this one, but first I think I need to drive a fork into my mind's eye.

Thank you for the kind words good sir.

I just noticed an interesting issue with one of the bonus spells for the Fitness mystery. The spell granted at 14th level is called "Curse of Ineptitude", but I cannot find that spell anywhere. It has no superscript after it, which would imply that the spell is either in the Core Rulebook or this PDF -- but it is in neither place. The d20pfsrd.com version of this mystery lists this spell but has no link to it -- and in fact the only "Curse of Ineptitude" spell they have anywhere on their site is a spell of too low a level by another company altogether. The descriptions of other "Book of the Faithful" products make no mention of containing new spells.

So -- where is this "Curse of Ineptitude" spell?

So RAW fitness mystery can ignore the movement penalty of the lame curse

Hmmm. It would seem I dropped the balk on this one. I'll figure this out and post an update when I do.

Which ability are you referring to?

Healthy Moves (Ex): Your base speed increases by 10 feet. At 5th level, you receive Dodge as a bonus feat. At 10th level you receive Mobility as a bonus feat. You do not need to meet the prerequisites to receive these feats.
edit:unless thats been changed of course.

Wouldn't they just offset? Expending a whole revelation choice for no penalty at 1st level, and then bonus feats at 5th and 10th level? I mean, maybe, but it's really debatable, which always seems to be the usual clue it's a good option - if it sounds nice, but when you look at it you end up really debating it next to every other choice. It's not a no-brainer, so I wouldn't call it broken or anything.

Ahh right. I remember looking at this exact situation and going back and forth on whether this is balanced or not. Ultimately I decided that it is still balanced because you are using a revelation to negate the speed loss. You could otherwise choose a +1 natural armor bonus, a sacred/profane bonus to your CMB, the ability to slow your enemy's movement, a climb speed and so forth, but instead you are bringing yourself up to the normal movement speed for the race. Flavor-wise, you are House MD who limped for a long time and managed to get full use of his leg back (before the network made him be a cripple again). You are a paragon of health and should be able to overcome physical limitations like a lame leg that would otherwise slow you down.

Having said all that, I could see a GM not allowing this revelation with the lame curse.

I didn't think it was too much of problem unless your gm is very against rage cycling, for which this will make the oracle dip more palatable. I only brought it up because of similar abilities in other mysteries having the whole "this revelation may not be chosen by an oracle with the lame curse" bit. I will say that doing that curse revelation combo basically nets you 2 revelations worth of abilities at the cost of one(the no fatigue revelation) and you are losing a penalty you would normally have as well. Not overly problematic in and of itself though.

So after a not-completely exhaustive search for the curse of ineptitude, I have found ... nothing.

I have checked every spell book and source book that I would have used and many that I did not believe I would have used but checked anyways and came up with zilch. My best guess is that it was a spell I was writing at the time and kept modifying it over and over again until there is nothing left of the original spell and forgot to change it in this PDF (more likely) or that I found it in an OGL source book so obscure that I cannot find it now (far less likely).

So short of the long, I will either create a new spell for this slot or I will find a spell to replace it with. It may take a week or two, but it will be done.

Sorry about this.

Having said all that, I could see a GM not allowing this revelation with the lame curse.

The main argument I could see for not allowing an Oracle with the Lame curse to take that revelation is the very similar Cinder Dance revelation of the Flame mystery:

PRD wrote:

You do not need to meet the prerequisites to receive these feats. Oracles with the lame oracle curse cannot select this revelation.

After some further research, I discovered that 101 7th Level spells by Rite Publishing does have a Curse of Ineptitude spell of the right level.

*Sigh* I swear I looked there. Yes, David is correct. Curse of ineptitude from Rite Publishing's 1001 Spells is the spell I was thinking of. Thank you for finding it. I'll update this soon.

Like I said, if a GM doesn't want to allow it, I can see that. But I personally feel that being blessed by a deity with physical fitness can overcome that handicap and bring the person back to where they should otherwise be for the race.
