Weapon Proficiency:
Monks are proficient with crossbows (light or heavy), bo staff, brass knuckles, butterfly sword, cestus, club, dagger, dan bong, double chained kama, double chicken saber, emei piercer, fighting fan, jutte, kama, kusarigama, kyoketsu shoge, lungshuan tamo, monk's spade, nine-ring broadsword, nine-section whip, nunchaku, quarterstaff, rope dart, sai, sansetsukon, seven-branched sword, shang gou, shuriken, siangham, spear, tiger fork, tonfa, tri-point double-edged sword, unarmed strike, urumi, and wushu dart, and any weapon with the monk special quality as well as the favored weapon of their deity if they belong to a religious order.

Flurry of Blows:

Starting at 1st level, a monk can make a flurry of blows as a full-attack action.

When doing so, he may make one additional attack, taking a –2 penalty on all of his attack rolls, as if using the Two-Weapon Fighting feat. These attacks can be any combination of unarmed strikes and attacks with a monk special weapon (he does not need to use two weapons to utilize this ability).

For the purpose of these attacks, the monk's base attack bonus from his monk class levels is equal to his monk level. For all other purposes, such as qualifying for a feat or a prestige class, the monk uses his normal base attack bonus.

At 8th level, the monk can make two additional attacks when he uses flurry of blows, as if using Improved Two-Weapon Fighting (even if the monk does not meet the prerequisites for the feat).

At 15th level, the monk can make three additional attacks using flurry of blows, as if using Greater Two-Weapon Fighting (even if the monk does not meet the prerequisites for the feat).

A monk applies his full Strength bonus to his damage rolls for all successful attacks made with flurry of blows, whether the attacks are made with an off-hand or with a weapon wielded in both hands. A monk may substitute disarm, sunder, and trip combat maneuvers for unarmed attacks as part of a flurry of blows. A monk cannot use any weapon other than an unarmed strike , the favored weapon of his diety of he has one, or a special monk weapon as part of a flurry of blows. A monk with natural weapons cannot use such weapons as part of a flurry of blows, nor can he make natural attacks in addition to his flurry of blows attacks.

AC Bonus (Ex):

When unarmored and unencumbered, the monk adds his Constitutiom bonus (if any) to his AC and his CMD. In addition, a monk gains a +1 bonus to AC and CMD at 4th level. This bonus increases by 1 for every four monk levels thereafter, up to a maximum of +5 at 20th level.

These bonuses to AC apply even against touch attacks or when the monk is flat-footed. He loses these bonuses when he is immobilized or helpless, when he wears any armor, when he carries a shield, or when he carries a medium or heavy load.

Fast Movement (Ex):

At 3rd level, a monk gains an enhancement bonus to his land speed, as shown on Table: Monk. Additionally, at 6th level a monk gains the ability to "5ft step" equal to half his fast movement bonus. A monk in armor or carrying a medium or heavy load loses this extra speed.

Ki (ex):

At 4th level a monk develops the ability to channel his Ki in one of two ways: the first is through a mystical connection to his spirit. A monk with Ki Spirit gains a pool of ki points, supernatural energy he can use to accomplish amazing feats. The number of points in a monk's ki pool is equal to his monk level + his Wisdom modifier. As long as he has at least 1 point in his ki pool, he can make a ki strike. At 4th level, ki strike allows his unarmed attacks to be treated as magic weapons for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction. At 7th level, his unarmed attacks are also treated as cold iron and silver for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction. At 10th level, his unarmed attacks are also treated as lawful weapons for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction. At 16th level, his unarmed attacks are treated as adamantine weapons for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction and bypassing hardness.

By spending 1 point from his ki pool, a monk can make one additional attack at his highest attack bonus when making a flurry of blows attack. In addition, he can spend 1 point to increase his speed by 20 feet for 1 round. Finally, a monk can spend 1 point from his ki pool to give himself a +4 dodge bonus to AC for 1 round. Each of these powers is activated as a swift action. A monk gains additional powers that consume points from his ki pool as he gains levels.

The ki pool is replenished each morning after 8 hours of rest or meditation; these hours do not need to be consecutive.

The other option is that of Ki body. A monk who chooses to manifest his Ki though his body can, as a swift action, observe a creature or object to find its weak point by making a concentration check using his constitution against a DC of 10 + the object’s hardness or the target’s CR. If the check succeeds, the martial artist gains a +2 bonus on attack rolls until the end of his turn, and any attacks he makes until the end of his turn ignore the creature or object’s DR or hardness. This bonus increases by +1 at level 8 and every 4 levels after to a maximum of +6 at level 20. A martial artist may instead use this ability as a swift action to analyze the movements and expressions of one creature within 30 feet, granting a bonus on Sense Motive checks and Reflex saves and a dodge bonus to AC against that opponent equal to 1/2 his monk level until the start of his next turn.

A monk who chooses Ki body does not gain any ki points.

Wholeness of Body (Su):

At 7th level or higher, a monk with ki spirit can heal his own wounds as a standard action. He can heal a number of hit points of damage equal to his monk plus his wisdom modifier level by using 1 points from his ki pool. He can heal himself as a swift action by spending 3 points from his Ki pool.

A monk with Ki body qualifies for fighter only feats as his level -3.

Liquid movement (Ex):

At 12th level or higher, a monk with ki spiritcan slip magically between spaces, as if using the spell dimension door. Using this ability is a move action that consumes 2 points from his ki pool. His caster level for this effect is equal to his monk level. He cannot take other creatures with him when he uses this ability.

At 12th level, a monk with Ki body may use the defensive roll advanced rogue talent once per day, plus once per three levels beyond 13th (to a maximum of 3 times a day at 19th level).

Empty Body (Su):

At 19th level, a monk gains the ability to assume an ethereal state for 1 minute as though using the spell etherealness. Using this ability is a move action that consumes 3 points from his ki pool. This ability only affects the monk and cannot be used to make other creatures ethereal

At 19th level, a monk with ki body suffers no damage on a successful defensive roll, and only half damage if the Reflex saving throw fails.

The main idea behind this is to reduce the monks MAD a bit while increasing options for people not wanting to play a mystic type of monk. The fast movement idea is a way to help the monk have a little more synergy with his class features. What do you think?

If anything you made it more MAD. You devalued Wis, but increased the value of Con. However, Wis is still needed to fuel their Ki so that means they still need as much as they can get. They could have gotten by with a slightly lower Con because of all the mileage they got from Wis. Now they need high Con because it has so much value now. Essentially they need more focus on another stat on top of all the old stats. Might want to rethink this one.

OK well you could have them choose at 1st level whether they were body/spirit. Spirit ones keep with wisdom, body ones switch to con.

And body ones only need wisdom for their will save and stunningfist/quivering palm dc. And spirit ones would only need con for HP/fort

Hmm.

Even with the split you listed those stats are still very important. Your rework isn't actually doing anything to make the monk better. Your just shuffling some of the values of stats around.

That doesn't fix MAD. It doesn't actually do anything really. To make something less MAD you have to completely devalue a stat.

Think about wizards. They have more or less zero need for Str or Cha. Or pretty much any stat that isn't Int. Sure they could always use a little extra Con or Dex, but they'll function at full power even with meager values of them.

Hmmm well the wholeness of body healing portion is only for ki spirit monks since they have the ki pool. Ki body monks count as a fighter-3 for fighter only feats. But I do agree with what you are saying about the values though...

How about adding wisdom to attack and CMB for ki spirit monks at 5, and giving controlled rage (urban BARBARIAN) to ki body?

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 16

I agree that this doesn't really solve much. Ki body seems rather underwhelming except for the fact it allows a monk to bypass hardness. That's an insane amount of power that's hidden inside that ability. That means a 4th level monk can snap an adamantine sword like a twig. I do like the idea behind trying to offer an alternative to ki, but this choice affects so many other abilities that I wonder if it would be best as an archetype.

Well Ki body has the DR passing ability from the matrial artist monk. In fact Ki body is basically a martial artist monk with his abilities running off of Con instead of wisdom.
