Jonathan Roberts, cartographer for Kobold Quarterly and Adventures in the Hyborian Age, presents another Fantastic Map: Stepped Pyramid.

This multi-page PDF allows you to print out the battlemap as a 1 square=1 inch scale letter-format map; you can also choose printer-friendly light grayscale versions. You also get two high-resolution JPEGs of the maps with and without grids. The file also contains two Maptool campaign files set up for quick use with 4E, PFRPG, or any OGL game. (The Maptool file requires Maptool 1.3b60 or newer.)

Created as part of the Coliseum Morpheuon Patronage Project.

Excellent Use of Shading

4/5

While I like the simplicity of the pyramid and the use of shadows and highlights to define height, it would definitely benefit from some type of wall between the different levels to add depth to the 2D perspective. It’s not easy creating a 3D environment from a 2D drawing especially when each level of depth is connected to the each lower and higher level. But to add that many shades represent the different levels is amazing. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen so many shades of “sand” in my life…

While it’s use may be limited, it would make a great centerpiece for a desert-themed encounter or some type of “King of the Hill” combat. The 1″ grid is fairly obvious, but is still hidden enough to be useful for many different systems.

Bad map. Author has many great maps but this one is a joke. The cover picture is literally all you get.

The first review notes that the cover image (aboveground) is all you get. The product description notes that there's also an underground battlemap.

Could someone double-check the product description?

The product description was incorrect. I've adjusted it.

Yeah its just a stepped pyramid from our Coliseum Morpheuon adventure, the cover image as a printable map pack (and jpegs) is all you get, thanks for the correction sir.

This is also why its $0.99 instead of the usual $2.99

I wanted to thank Paul Miller 769 for taking the time to do a review of the product. I do agree the map is very basic this is why we reduced the price of the map from $2.99 to 0.99 cents.
