Scarab Sages

Hey All

Just started running society games for my group (Getting prepared for GenConOZ this year!).

One of the players brought up an interesting question - one that i couldn't answer off the top of my head, and one i couldn't find the answer to in the society rules.

The question basically asked that, if the players find a potion of Cure Moderate Wounds, and one of the players drink the potion -during- the game, does the cost of that item get deducted from their total gold at the end of the session?

If it were up to me to make the ruling - i'd probably rule that it doesn't get subtracted from the total at the end of the match. But as it is society - I definately need some clarification on this.

Thanks
Mandreth

The PFS Guide does not spell it out, but I am pretty sure it has been said officially in other threads that you do not reduce the gold reward for items consumed or destroyed during the scenario, mainly because of the excess bookkeeping and time needed. You do still get to buy consumed or destroyed items from the chronicle sheet afterward, though. Now, if the players miss finding items completely, I am not sure if that reduces the gold reward, as the Guide does not say anything on that either, though it does give examples of giving the players alternate gold rewards or ways of finding items that they missed due to creative role-play. But anything missed completely has to be crossed off the chronicle sheet and cannot be bought.

Hmm I see...that's good, as one of the newer players used two cure moderate wound potions during the game. And another player was like; "OH NOES NOW WE HAVE TO PAY FOR THEM"

So it's all good! Thanks

The way the guidelines are worded, it sounds like you add up the items they find, the scenarios do say "the pcs gain 200gp for finding X item" etc. Or at least that's how i read it!

Related to having to pay for consumables used during the scenario:

used during the scenario, but you have to purchase the item
after the scenario is over in order for your character to be
able to continue to use the item. This is most applicable to
consumables such as potions, scrolls, and so on but can also
apply to weapons, magic items, and so on.

They only have to pay for an item if they want to put it on their character sheet and continue to use it in the next scenario.

The Guide specifically spells out that items destroyed during the scenario are still purchasable off the chronicle sheet so long as they were found, but I never put language in there that specifically says you keep the gold rewards for items you consume--which is strange. I'll add that to 2.3.

Excellent! Confirmation from Lord Frost himself =]

Thanks! My players should be very happy with that hah!

On a related note...

Regarding mundane things such as mwk weapons, backpacks and other misc items; mostly stuff that was left off the chronicle sheet. Do the PCs get to keep that stuff?

Or is it that they lose everything they find on the adventure?

You never keep anything you find or loot or pickpocket, etc when playing a scenario as Society members. You only get the gold as listed and any special boons.

basically, the gold that you get for the encounter is the gold that the pathfinders give you for turning in all of the gear that you find from that encounter (both magical and mundane)
