Bring 'em on! Your players actually do a great job of playing evil characters, both with keeping true to the evil aspect and still getting along. And my kudos tp the player of Charaine, the only neutral character as I understand, who actually stays neutral; I've seen more than a few "neutral" characters in *good* groups tend closer to evil (or just being evil and denying it, with the DM not caring).

Or playing chaotic neutral and slaughtering left and right. My group once torched an outhouse because it wouldn't move out of the way.

How does that one really creepy sounding song go? something like, "On candy striped legs, the spider man comes." Anyone here know what i'm talking about? I have heard that song in great for a dungeon crawl.

Speaking of young players I suppose its up to us old gamers to bring the new ones in. I know here at home I started playing with my three kids when they were younger. My 18 year old son and 16 year old daughter still play and they have brought in many of their friends from school. When we have a home game I generally have an average of ten teenagers gathered around the table playing D&D and trying to eat me out of house and home. I love it tho.
They'd eat you out of house and home even if there was no game going on. Thats what teenagers do - they wander from one teens parents house to the next consuming anything the least bit edible. Sort of like locusts.

Ha! Good times, good times . . .

So, eh . . . what is this all about anyway? Why such difficult to meet criteria for your gaming group?

Thanks, big. Are you the same bigby99 from Age of Mythology?

Who is this masked man? Where are you from Trapmaster? Too bad we don't have similar groups/intents to game together I've read your posts and they are insightful and interesting.

Oh well. Mybe we'll meet at a Con or something.

Idaho, Sprite. You a male or female? I'm a bit confused.

Na, from blow hole Idaho.

At least we are on the same side of the United States. I am in Idaho, so i doubt you'll see me on here again.

Seems that lately a lot of us older gamers have become nostalgic about the classic modules of old. One I haven't heard mention of is the Baba Yaga's Dancing Hut module in a very old issue of Dragon. I recall there being an earlier version of it, too, but can't remember where it was printed. That was one of the coolest modules I remember reading. The amount of extradimensional rooms in it and the tesseract thing was kind of mind boggling, but very cool.

Where has WoTC buried that dear old grandmother?

I have been playing for a very, very long time, but i have never heard mention of Baba Yaga. Taking a look at the picture posted on this thread gets me intrigued into finding more about him/her/it. Does it really have a mail box on its head?

I have to agree with Rainbowspryte(?) in that i like the fluffy spellcasters as well. I'm not so sure about things like Shadowdancer, but for the most part her list sounded pretty good.

Desert elf from Unearthed Arcana still has to be my alltime favorite alternate race, and probably favorite race all together.

In an old group of mine we had a player who was running a lawful good half-orc paladin Sneer Zarg. His paladin had a problem though. Aside from his longsword +2, his favorite weapon was his "long-handled sword." And any time they met a female that was in his SIZE CATAGORY he would pull his "long-handled sword" out of its "special sheath." It led to some akward encounters, especially the time when they were running around in the underdark and were attacked by a band of drow led by a priestess with a high charisma. So Sneer Zarg strolls casually up to her and says, "Hey beautiful, surrender now or taste my long-handled sword."

I created a campaign a couple of years ago, and i would like to know what people think of it. Mephisto the evil Elf wizard uses magic clockwork keys to transform humans and animals into mentally controlled automatons. Each one has a different power than another one. Mephisto also sided with the drow and other creatures of the underdark. I will list the creatures (called Mastars) by their cr. I will also stat out the three major NPCs.

Blue: DR 5/ ranged. attack: +2 longsword+1 1d8+1. AC: 15. HD:1d10+1 feats: dodge. CR 3

Green: Immunity to acid. attack: +4 longsword+2 1d8+2. Ac: 16. HD:1d10+2 feats: power attack. CR 4

Dog: Immune to mind effects. attack: +4 bite 1d4+4, trip attack. HD:1d10 AC: 16. feats: improved trip. CR 4

Red: Immune to fire. attack: +6 bastard sword +1 1d10+1. AC: 18. HD: 2d6+5. feats: exotic weopon (bastard sword), combat reflexes. CR 5

Flame Spitter: DR 5/bludgeoning. attack: +3 dagger+1 1d4+1. AC: 20. HD: 2d12+6. feats: combat casting. special attack: breathe weapon (cone) 2d10+1 fire damage, 1/day. CR 6.

Yellow: Immune to electricity, DR 10/spells. attack: +8/+3 spiked chain+2 1d10+4 (str 15). AC: 22. HD 2d12+6. feats: power attack, cleave, great cleave, combat reflexes, exotic weapon(spiked chain). spell-like: stoneskin 1/day. CR 8.

Gold: DR 10/ piercing. attack +10/+5 longspear+3 1d8+4 (str 12). Ac:23. HD: 4d8+2. feats: toughness. CR 10.

Black: Immune to spells. attack: +5/+5/+5 longsword+2 1d8+2. AC: 24. HD: 3d6+3. feats: endurance, diehard. CR 10.

Now for the NPCs.

Mephisto: elf wiz12. hp: 40. ac: 22. attack +9/+4. gear: quarterstaff +3, bracers of protection +4, cloak of resistance, ring of protection +4, potion of cure critical wounds x3.

Captain Jezzac: black Mastar ranger 5. hp: 78. ac: 30. attack: +13/+8/+8/+13. gear: longsword+3 x2, studded leather+3, potion of cure critical x3.

When you say "female positive", do you mean a positive female or someone who acceptsw females for true gamers?

Druids are the perfect solo-ing class, so maybe you should try splitting up with the party for a day or so.

Trapmaster, forgive me for a rude question: How old is your group? You guys sound really young. If that's the case, maybe you can find some older people to play with.
In those days, we also used to do gladitorial battle royales once every couple months, where we'd make characters and fight each other to the death... this got out alot of that silliness, and helped us get down to role-playing. Maybe your group would like to try that, too?

They are as old as I am (25) and they don't need a "battle Royale." They fight with each other everytime they find anything better that a copper piece. They even mug the shop keeper. I have a hard time finding any other players because i am in Southern Idaho. (ACK ACK!)

What would you guys love to see?

I would like a book on underground races. Like drow and those evil dwarves.

Loughon the Bard wrote:
Forgive me if this has come up before, but does anyone know of an easy way to convert old first edition modules to 3.5?

Yeah. Just use the monster stat blocks for 3.5, and most of the saves can be revamped, like save vs. poison would be a Fort save. It's pretty easy once you think about it.

Taricus wrote:

Leave the poor kis alone. Everyone was that age once. Kid, they have a new book out called "Dungoens and Dragons for Dummies." Tons of good stuff, like a pull out map, pregenerated characters, and tips on how to do . . . well, everything really. Check it out. I picked up a copy and I've been playing for seven years.

StormDruid wrote:
In short = How can I turn my druid into a force to be reckoned with?

Use spells and shapeshifting to your advantage. First, buff your animal companion with spells. Next, shapeshift into the appropriate elemental. Third, pound the beastie into the dirt.

I like gythianki as creatures, 'cause they rock, but the incursion setting just seemed a little redundant. I mean, what DM hasn't used a "monster take over the world" plot at least once? It just happened that the gyths got the publicity.

Telas wrote:

I don't look at the books as sources for PC races, necessarily (after all, I do run a Greyhawk 3.5 campaign).

But they do make a great resource for NPC races. I liked the Goliaths in Races of Stone, and plan to use them in my campaign as a recurring NPC race.

That said, the books are not as good as the Complete Whatever books (generally speaking).

Telas

I thought that the race variants from Unearthed Arcana were really good, plus they aren't unbalancing. But i didn't find races of stone very helpful.

Can't say that I am. I was just remembering the ads from when it was originally proposed. Wasn't she the only iconic figure missing from the original miniature set? I don't collect or play with the minis so my knowledge there is very limited.

I got a free poster in the mail that had the origional iconic figures shown on it, and she was on it. Although it wasn't very good, by what the poster shows.

Personally I like the Kull the conqueror soundtrack. Legend is a good one as well. The newest "King Arthur" has some pretty good tracks to it. And believe it or not there are some good video game soundtracks that apply to D&D very well like Soul Calibur 1 and 2 and the Castlevania series.

I my opinion, celtic music works for just about everything, not just druid groves. A personal favorite of mine is "Daughters of the Celtic Moon." Rather creepy sounding.

Tee hee. I like the idea of stating up the Duck Lord. I say that it should have similer stats as a wyrmling white dragon, but you might want to lose the breath weopon. Or not, if you're feeling nasty. :)

Good point, I've DMed for groups like that as well. What's the party make up? Next campaign I would suggest no evil characters and strictly inforce this.

None of them are evil, they are all chaotic neutral. They always say that "they aren't evil, they just don't like people." So my NPCs always end up dead eventually.

Yeah, artbook would be great! One way to see all covers is to look through: http://paizo.com/dragon/products/issues, but I hardly find it comfortable.

So, maybe it's time for "Art of Dragon Magazine"? :-)

Sounds like a good idea to me, especially if they include those three 3.5 issues, they had really good artwork.

The novels were incredible, and i really am saddened by this news.

Woontal wrote:

So given this interpretation, would the size modifiers of a creature affect this roll, and would creatures with Supernatural flying abilities be able to resist the force of the throw (assuming that natural flyers would not be able to manuever into correct flying stance in time)?

Yeah. I doubt that a halfling, no matter it's strength, could throw an ogre. I don't think that they should be able to throw anyone that is a size catagory larger than them.

Philippe Dubois wrote:

Is a basic warforged with composite plating considered to be wearing light armor for class that say u cant get special abilities (like monk and ninja)?

I don't think that it would be, because plate, no matter the material, would be too hampering on movement.

It's hard to have roleplaying encounters when they kill everything.

Mabey you should ask your DM to run an Oriental campaign, just to make it even more challenging. Or maybe he should create his own campaign world.

...and wasn't it originally supposed to come with a Mialee miniature?

- Chris Shadowens

Why are you so eager to get your hands on a Mialee figure?

I don't think that wizards and sorcerers are too powerful, but i do think that they have too many arcane presige classes. They should at least include a couple divine prestige classes to balance it out a little.

I don't get enjoyment from battling my players, I get enjoyment from watching them think. And they only need to find the secret door on top of the cage to get out and begin trying to escape the maze.

Ducks do echo. You just don't pay attention.

I took all of this advise worked, although i didn't need to start a new campaign. I captured them with a wizard using a wand of paralization, and they realized that the giant Rock Lobsters that guarded their cage would normally be a piece of cake, were too much for them to handle, and had to think to get out of the situation. By the way, if anyone is wondering where i got that idea, look in Grimtooth's Traps.

I agree. I am a DM, but in my opinion Greyhawk is the way it was ment to be. It was the origional. Plus it doesn't have all of the crazy media hype like Dragon Lance and Forgotten Realms do.

Cold Steel wrote:
My favorite new core class? Warlock, hands down

I agree. You don't need to have any of the more flashy prestige classes. A druid can handle just about any situation in my opinion. At low levels, the animal companion can handle most things, and the druid can buff and heal it while it does all the nitty gritty. Then at higher levels, the druid can shapeshift into elementals, and combined with spells and animals, the druid can take down almost anything. If you plan on going solo, or if you are in a party, a druid is the way to go.

KnightErrantJR wrote:

As I said, the player had ducks in real life, and he wants stats on top of keeping the thing as a pet.

Just a note on the campaign. The party sorcerer bought a dog. He has no animal training/handling skills, and I told him the dog would be no good for combat without training it to obey command. He still wanted it.

The party went back into the lair of a bright naga that had kicked their tails earlier. They sent the dog in first, and before it had a chance to run, the naga blasted it, but the PCs then opened fire on it and killed it.

So pets have a bad time of it in the campaign right now . . .

Have the ducks turn on the PCs when they try and do something like that. Or have the ducks really be dopplegangers in disguise.

KnightErrantJR wrote:

I have a player that owns a duck (several actually) and he wants to buy a duck in the game. I know I could use some other bird stats, but I was wondering if anyone is aware of duck stats, and what book or resourse might have held this elusive information.

Thank you for your help . . . I would hate to become the victim of fowl play . . .

I don't know what book would have stats for a watery fowl, but i would give it a low con and str, but a high dex and wis. Try it out and see what you think.

Trapmaster, there is a thread on these boards called "Tired of Min/Maxing" or some such that you might find some valuable advice in for dealing with this type of group.

Tried there. The advise i got was to use charm spells to force them to fight each other. I would just get a new group, but i can't find anyone else to play.
