As you pointed out, it makes no sense to combat a chest.

Next, the only thing that causes damage on a failed check is when that check is to defeat a monster—and that damage happens whether it's a Combat check or not.

Just to clarify, this means that something like a Siren, which has a check to defeat of Wisdom 8 if I'm not mistaken and not a combat check does damage because it's a monster and has nothing to do with the Combat trait that it is lacking?

I've played Seelah throughout the Burnt Offerings AP with my wife playing the druid. This power was very useful indeed.

Note however, that if you kick down a door and find a trap there- you are dead. Like, really dead. You have no items and you can hope to have a burglar ally in your hand to have a chance, but really if you are running on empty you have got a very large chance of kicking the bucket if a damage dealing skill check comes out.

This of course is softened by the "scry" ability at the start of the turn, but if you are playing with true lethality it's pretty risky to burn through your deck just to get to those blessings.

Keep in mind if you are doing that throughout the game you could remain fairly healthy and get your ratio of blessings to non-blessings up to 2/3 or even 3/4 relatively easily, you just have to avoid buring blessings in hand for explores unless you have a heal effect in the party.

In my view, this is a very salient point. The ambiguity stakes are much lower when no individual in the group loses.

Not devaluing your opinion at all; especially since it is a view that I agree with, however it is worth pointing out that there are certain personality/gamer archetypes that this will not sit well with.

Rules Lawyers/Play-to-win and Puzzle Player (dunno if this is the correct term- the guys who views the game like a puzzle to solve) will always find any sort of ambiguity in rules or cards types a major frustration as it takes away from the experience for them.

Things like the location cards being printed differently and missed keywords are almost unforgivable in a card game. As I said previously, it concerns me about how many errors are going to be in the upcoming, already printed scenarios :(

To be fair, I'm a bit disappointed at the number of issues with misprints/consistancy on the wording of the cards in the base set. Maybe I'm a little harsh, but I have fairly high expectations of accuracy and consistancy on the cards of an "Adventure Card Game"

Hopefully it gets better as the Adventure Path progresses not worse. Unfortunately none of those are going to get correcting in print since they are already sitting in a warehouse at Paizo. It's all going to be errata'd in the FAQ's.

Maybe I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill, and I do understand the benefits of large print runs, but I think that this game is going to be particularly heavy on the FAQ side of things in this first AP at least. I'm wondering whether it would have been in their best interest to send the Core Set to the printers first with a bunch more intro adventures and wait to send the first AP to the printers; pushing back Burnt Offerings three months or thereabouts. They would have had to flesh out the Base Game though, that 3 month wait could kill the game community (it took a bit of a toll with LOTR LCG for sure)

On the bright side- being a co-op game it's probably less important, since the players aren't out to screw each other. There is always that element of house rule/play how you want.

Thanks Steve, appreciated.

I found the customer service board and posted there, not too fussed- I just like Promo stuff.

Question posted here: http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2q36v?Subscription-Question

Short version: is it possible to get the promo cards for my first order since I placed it prior to realising Piazo had a subscription service?

Thanks!

I apologies if this is in the wrong place, I'm kinda new around here :)

So after watching some videos and reading the rules I realised this was one game that I mst have. Before realising there was a subscription service, I ordered the base game and the character add-on. I have since gone back and subscribed, starting from the first release next month.

Question is this, do I get the shiny new promo cards even though I erroneously ordered the base game separate from my sub? If not, will I have any luck with support about getting my orders mashed together?

Thanks in advance guys for helping out a newbie, can't wait to get my hands on this one :)

Okay I'm still confused- from what Mike said on BGG you cannot gain the benefits from the scenario a second time correct?

I can't help but get the feeling that this will be a moot argument once a couple of the adventure paths come out...

For what it's worth, the rulebook on p18-19 makes no reference to whether or not an adventure has been completed or not. The only written limitation is that you can only "level" as much as your character card allows.

I know you've almost certainly noted this, however my assumption is that they removed the "check" to allow people to have a character that they play in a pick up group that may be the same as the one that they have in an adventure. In the Watch it Played video, Mike made reference to grinding- so I don't think that it's prohibited.

That being said, if you were playing an adventure with a bunch of power gamers/rules lawyers I could understand why you would want to discourage that sort of thing :)

Mike had stated in the forums that, beyond the first six adventure paths, the future is up in the air. Not surprising I guess, Paizo is only going to be committed up to a certain point. I'm sure the design team are already hard at work though.

So- tell your friends I guess...

EDIT- so I went looking for the aforementioned post and couldn't find it. I may well have made that all up, however it wouldn't surprise me if that's the case. As long as PACG doesn't go the full "Firefly" on us...

I know the only game even remotely like this is Lord of the Rings

Keep in mind that their scoring system is in its second iteration and is still quite bad.

As an avid LOTR LCG player my advice is this- don't try to be something you aren't. You have a good thing going for you, stick to that. FFG has a stack of competitive LCG's (aka non-blind buy) card games if that's your poison.
