That was the first section I went to as soon as I opened the PDF!

The short and sweet version is that it has loads of advice on how to port classes, feats and abilities between the two games with specific advice on things that may not work well.
It does not give a breakdown for every class, feat or ability.

I’m going to port everything from Pathfinder to Starfinder and call it a day.

For the record, offering incentives for Bluesky is just as offensive to some of us as offering incentives for Twitter/X is for others. We just usually aren't as whiney about it. So I assume this is an oil the greasy wheel tactic, instead of being a corporate position on advocating censorship of diverse ideas like Bluesky does.

Which diverse ideas does Bluesky advocate censoring?

I'd like more stuff for the Spirit Monger Necro that actually involves spirits, haunts, etc. So far everything seems to be themed for the bone or meat Necromancer. I'm sure Paizo will include stuff like that in the final release as they usually limit playtest options for testing purposes.

With that being said I’ve started posting even less because the forums have devolved into the same people bickering and squabbling about everything. Anything.
My time is too valuable to spend trying to filter the signal from all the noise.
I’m hoping the eventual forum upgrades give us the ability to mute specific posters in a thread as well as the ability to just outright block someone.
Right now I use the play by post tools to manage things but that is a cudgel where I want a scalpel.

A proposed tactical pathway for Paizo and allies to supplant D&D

I'm curious about why you think that Paizo would want to supplant D&D. So far there's been no indication that they want to do that.

Where did you get the idea that that is one of their corporate goals?

Paizo have stated before that their main priority as a business is to be successful enough to continue telling the kinds of stories that they want to tell. Paizo being a positive force in the industry and a part of a rising tide that lifts all boats is a part of that priority and in my opinion the part that makes them successful. Paizo only come considers themselves to be in competition with themselves to make Pathfinder the best TTRPG it can be.

You know, while Grandmother Spider killing Rovagug is wholly a joke--"himself" and "the Starstone" feel like much more compelling theories--I am increasingly wondering about her. Who wrote these prophecies? Maybe it was someone who wanted to encourage people to view the gods as vulnerable. Someone who gleefully undermines the gods' authority and encourages her followers to write their own destinies, even.

I don't think GMS is heading into a villain arc, but that doesn't mean she won't have her part to play. For instance, I will be shocked if Achaekek survives this war. The War of Immortals seemingly goes against everything he stands for. So what's Grandmother Spider going to do if her beloved brother is slain?

If the gods are going to war, might it be over the role of divinity itself in a world without Rovagug? Should the gods be distant, or active? Should divinity be ineffable, or highly attainable? The gods themselves do not seem to agree about this.

I think the only way Achaekek can get killed is if he gets a girlfriend.

Those are all excellent suggestions. I suspect we'll see some of them in the game sooner than later.

The Eberron setting had spell guns or wand guns that were essentially wands in a gun shaped holder. (Wands don't work like that in PF2E though.) I also don't see a need to keep everything gun shaped but don't want to go into the overwrought flanges and spikes on ALL THE THINGS like most fantasy weaponry tends to have. I was thinking more of something shaped like a Star Trek: TNG phaser or the staffs Ra's troops used in the original Stargate movie, less gun-like in shape but still "guns." I'd have them still do kinetic damage but use "magic" instead of bullets and gunpowder.

I like the idea of magic rail guns! Something like the HV Penetrator from the FEAR games. It launches big bolts that can pin the target to walls. A magic gun that does something similar would be awesome.

The hobgoblins of Oprak are heavily invested in alchemy so guns of all stripes would be a perfect fit for them.

The cool thing about pepperboxes is that they existed for every type of firearm from matchlock to flintlock. I think they'd be a great part of Pathfinder iconic look.

As an aside, The Dishonored series are a lot of fun if you like sneaky, stealthy games. You are rewarded for not killing everything but you and there are many ways to go through the levels. You can usually catch them on sale on Steam. Play the first one and all of the DLC or parts of the second one won't make sense. The Death of the Outsider DLC wraps up the series perfectly. The world-building, especially the magic system, is what really sells it. The games are a few years old but they still hold up well on modern systems.

Happy gaming!

I'd like more information on how to adjust loading times to make revolvers and magazine fed firearms work. I'm not really all that concerned with absolute balance against other weapons.

And off the top of my head:
Turn-over pistols.
Pepperbox weapons with more barrels.
Pepperbox muskets.
Alchemical guns like in Dishonored but using refined alchemical reagents instead of refined whale oil.
Rifling.
Actual scopes and accessories based on real world examples.
Magitech guns that use magic. Not necessarily energy damage either.
Give the hobgoblins firearms. >:)

Something like flexible casting on a wizard let's someone be similar to 1e arcanist (from what I've read, I'm not super familiar with arcanist), but I'm sure we'll get an actual arcanist eventually. A class archetype Inquisitor and an actual Inquisitor class could give players different ways of playing one, with small differences (maybe one would have better casting, the other more martial? Idk).

I doubt we'll get an Arcanist class, flexible preparation was pretty much the whole point.

That's pretty much it. The only other thing they had going for them was spell exploits and burning spell slots to fuel spell exploits.

I liked the new gunslinger. I was mostly in agreement with the opinions on the forums. My only issue is that some of the basic abilities of the class were a little over the top and cartoony to me. I don't have an issue with that playstyle as a feat or feat chain but I'd rather the basic class abilities were a little more grounded.

I'm fine with the basic game being built around flintlock era weapons but I really hope we get the same spread of firearms that we got in PF 1E. I want the game to work with early, advanced and modern firearms. I think it's always a better idea to build the functionality into the foundation rather than try to bolt it on later even if there aren't any plans to have modern firearms in the game any time soon. (See class archetypes as an example of this philosophy.) Just make advanced firearms rare and modern firearms unique and we get the best of all worlds.

I liked the Inventor class a lot! I've been wanting a class like that since 3E! I would like to see an option for a less "mad scientist" inventor though. I want to play a highly skilled inventor who knows exactly what they are doing and why they are doing it. It would also be cool to have specific fields or areas of expertise that an inventor could specialize in to add more flavor.

Overall I'm really happy with the overall classes and firearms. I'm excited to see the final versions.

I absolutely noticed a lot less vitriol on the forums for this playtest. Good job everybody! We should be like that for all the playtests, maybe?

you can use the scenarios without being in organized play. We don't send a mischief of ysoki mechanics to your house to saw the legs off your gaming table if you do it on your own (not after that note from humanoid resources anyway...)

For society, at most tables, once the game starts its not any different from any other game.

And don't tell anybody but I've been recycling adventures since the 90s. It used to be relatively easy to get old 1E and 2E D&D adventures at game shops and used bookstores. It saves loads of time and hassle with prep. I find it to be really easy to change a few stats as needed or switch out a monster here and there and reskinning a dungeon adventure as a smash and grab job for a cyberpunk game is as easy as changing the description from dank and dismal dungeon to dank and dismal rundown research park. So far no gaming company hit squads have kicked down the door.

Thanks for the info everyone! I'm glad they aren't locking themselves into a series. I will always welcome MOAR! monsters but 3 Bestiaries is enough for the base game. Everything that comes after this will be gravy!

EDIT:
By not locking themselves into a specific cadence of one series book and one bestiary they open up a lot of room. I'm expecting a "Lost Omens" campaign book in the first part of the year and a "Pathfinder Core" book for the GenCon release with a wild card in there to spice it up.

So 2 - 3 hardbacks a year? That's more sustainable for me and slows down the amount of new rules coming in so that it isn't overwhelming. I'd just like to see them get all of the legacy stuff done with.

what defines a shaman? I’m a fan of PF1 shaman, but it feels more like a combination of class features than a clearly defined concept, so im not really sure what i would expect from a PF2 shaman.

Shaman as the spontaneous primal class. I’d like to see their roles as healers, envoys to the spirit world and mediators for their communities explored. Shamanic traditions are also rich with tales of shamanic vision quests and assuming a spirit form or shapeshifting. There is a lot of design space to explore here.

I agree that PF1 just felt like a pile of class abilities with nothing to tie them into a class and that was a huge letdown. I'd like the PF2 Shaman to be shamanic no matter where they come from, whether it's the mean streets of Absalom or the frigid tundras of the north.

What are you picks, guesses and/or wild speculation if Paizo announces a playtest for more classes at Gen Con like they did last year? If they follow last year's template then I'd guess four more classes, five tops.

The Gunslinger, Magus and Kineticist all seem to be good bets.

As many have noted the gunslinger depends on the firearms rules and they may not be ready to tackle that just yet but I'd like them sooner than later.

The Magus would get a significant upgrade if it became a full ten level caster and was the spontaneous arcane class. I really see the spontaneous arcane place going to the Arcanist but I'm not really sure the Arcanist has enough to really warrant a full class anymore since there's less of a need for their blend of spontaneous/prepared casting now and reservoir, exploits and "I eat magic" thing could all be part of a archetype.

The kineticist seemed to be a really popular class. I was never really sure that I understood how it all worked but the pure flavor was awesome. I'd be interested in playing a 2E version kineticist since there's really nothing else like it.

My wild card would be the Psychic as the prepared occult. The psychic is another class were Paizo really made their mark on the game. I stopped caring about psionics once we got the Psychic. I'd like to get my mind-melting, head exploding action on earlier in this edition.

The shaman could also be a wildcard as the spontaneous Primal caster. I'd like to see them step into the role of mediator to their communities and envoys to the spirit world. There's a lot of room to explore here!

I honestly like to see a "class" book that just gets it all out of the way. Update all the legacy classes as 2E classes and archetypes or lay them to rest so that 2022 can be the year of moving on with 2E as its own thing.

Paizo have come a long way from salvaging what they could of 3E D&D just to survive to bringing bringing their own vision to life with the second edition of Pathfinder. I'm sure they have such sights to show us.

Grand Lodge

I cannot wait for this book. I’m so excited for all these classes but I’m most excited for the witch. The witch was one of the 1E classes where Paizo really found its own voice and brought something we’d never really had before to the game. I’m really happy to hear that the witch will be the prepared ANY tradition counterpoint to the sorcerer. I’m really curious to see how patrons were handled. I didn’t like how vague they were in the playtest. I argued for something closer to the 1E version with the possibility for specific patrons like those that came later in 1E. I wanted the choice of patron to carry more weight and be an important part of the class but not be straitjacket. I really like the idea of the patron determining the tradition the witch used but I want various patrons that grant the same tradition to play very differently.

I personally want to see 2E versions of quite a few more of the old 1E classes.

I’m going to spoiler it so I don’t take up too much space here.

1E classes in 2E.:

Arcanist as the spontaneous arcane caster that really digs into the "hacker of magic" part of the 1E class. I'd like to see them retain their exploits and reservoir abilities while becoming masters of meta magic as they bend magic to their will on the fly.

Psychic as the prepared occult caster. The 1E psychic was one of the classes that were iconic to Paizo. It brought something to the game that wasn’t there before and it filled that niche with it’s own feel. I no longer cared about psionics in PF because the flavor of the psychic just fit the game better.

Shaman as the spontaneous primal class. I’d like to see their roles as envoys to the spirit world and mediators for their communities explored. Shamanic traditions are also rich with tales of shamans vision quests which gives them a niche that no other class has. I’d like them to become THE shapeshifting class as opposed to the druids optional shapeshifting.

The kineticist is just too unique to not get it’s own space unless it becomes another flavor of monk which would a bit of a let down but understandable.

The magus is another unique niche that isn’t served by archetypes. A class that blends martial and magic into one. I don’t really see them as full 10 level casters though. I’d like to see them expanded to be closer to the psychic warrior and soulknife of 3E psionics but with magic. There’s just so much room to explore here.

The gunslinger is one of my favorite classes from 1E but I never liked how the only reason for their existence was to make firearms not suck. Their future really depends on how Paizo handles firearms in 2e. If firearms are functional weapons out of the gate then the gunslinger could be an archetype but I’d like to see them become a class that makes functional firearms better.

I would argue that the medium and summoner are also iconic Paizo classes whose class abilities are unique and it seems like it would be hard to do them justice with archetypes or fold them into bard and wizard, respectively.

Those are the 1E classes whose niche and/or class abilities seem like they’d make for better classes than to try to shoehorn them into another class or make them archetypes.

I suppose you could reconfigure the mesmerist, skald and spiritualist as bard “muses” if you expanded the concept of what a “muse” can be. The skald especially is just a bard from a specific ethnicity so call the “muse” Saga or something and give them a “raging song” feat chain. The mesmerist’s stare and trick become bard only feats while the spiritualist works similar to the familiar feat but with phantoms.

The inquisitor could be a cleric doctrine for the part of the church that hunts the monsters that prey on the faithful, often by coming really, really close to becoming monsters themselves.

The slayer would be an awesome level 1 archetype so ANY class could be a *COUGH*bounty hunter*COUGH*.

The bloodrager becomes a barbarian instinct that gives the barbarian minor spellpowers or supernatural abilities based on a bloodline. They were only 4th level casters in 1e so making them a full blown caster archetype seems to be a little much.

The occultist would be an awesome way to make a bonded item specialist wizard that forgos traditional schools for the occultist’s implements and focus powers.

The hunter is already a background and the only thing it really has going for it is the animal companion. So maybe a “pets for everyone” archetype?

The brawler seems like it should be a fighter feat chain but I could also see it being an archetype that gives any class skill with unarmed combat.

The shifter would be a great 1st level archetype that gives any classes shapeshifting abilities.

I think that covers all of 1E. Once the legacy classes are done then Paizo can move on to making 2E its own thing without having to worry about 1E being baggage that always weighs them down. Instead of years of “when are we going to get the 2E version of x” just get it done and out of the way. Then let go and move on towards other horizons.

Is it possible that there's an upside on margin if they were published as trade paperbacks rather than mass market? I know that's a trend I'm seeing in the book market more and more, especially for non-best sellers, since there's higher margins on trade paperbacks. Also, to spitball another option, could working with a smaller publisher make more sense? Might not get the same distribution, but could possibly have better economics. The downside to that is if the margin improves at the expense of total profit, it might just be too small to justify the time from Paizo.

Or maybe just sell them through the webstore as special editions that only go to the printers when "x" amount are sold. These editions are larger and on better paper and include art plates. I used to have a couple of Stephen King's first Gunslinger books that were like that. I may still have them in storage somewhere.

To be honest, I'd rather buy books digitally since I only have a limited mount of library space so I have to use it wisely. I'll make space for a really well made special edition!
