I'm currently playing Rise of The Runelords with a two-handed halfling fighter who uses a greataxe. I have most of her feats taken care of but I would like suggestions on what else to get, other than the usual "improved initiative/iron will" combo. Are there any really good feats for two handed weapons? Is there anything I would especially need for Rise of The Runelords knowing we're still on the first book? Here is her build so far:

Level 4 (+1 str)

Stats (after racial and level up modifiers)

Str: 16
Dex: 12
Con: 16
Int: 16
Wis: 12
Cha: 11

2: Weapon Focus (Greataxe)
3: Furious Focus
4: Weapon Specialization
5: Weapon Versatility
6: Vital Strike

8: Greater Weapon Focus
9: Devastating Strike

Currently I have her set up to focus on damage. She found a +1 plate mail so she's fine defensively, but now I need to focus on offense and deal the most damage in the group. I gave her the vital strike tree due to every damn enemy being separated and I have to constantly run around the battlefield. I didn't bother with intimidation because she's too short to be scary and her charisma's too low for it to matter. I'd rather just focus on killing things as quickly as possible.

Torbyne wrote:
wait, so even arcanists are good to go? what makes wizards special than?

It's part of the campaign's lore. Basic backstory, the campaign takes place a thousand years into the future, at which point aliens attacked Golarion and devoured almost all magic and anyone who can cast it. Wizards went extinct save for literally one person and any other caster has to naturally acquire their magical prowess. Wizards are singled out because they have to specifically practice magic, they can't use it naturally.

Or something like that. The game's kinda confusing. :x

Edit: Now that I think about it, I don't know if arcanists are allowed because no one's asked to play one yet. So far the spontaneous casters are allowed, the others are up in the air.

Other arcane casters are allowed, but according to the DM there is only one wizard in this world and he's on a rival team. Sorcerers, magus, witches, all that stuff.

I'll look into getting a wayfinder and a spindle if it's that big of a concern.

Thing is, long story short, there are no wizards in this campaign save for ONE, which we have no intent on attacking or going near because he's essentially 20th level and absolutely hates us. I guess if I can find one in the area (we're on a spelljammer right now, hard to find more gear) I'll look into investing in it, but I'm sincerely not concerned with mind control because the only thing thus far that has done confusion has done it point blank.

Cuup wrote:
The only bonus you get by default for being Fey is Low-light Vision, so unless there's another feature added in that specifically gives you racial immunity/resistance to mind-controlling effects, then yes, you should worry about it.

Fey aren't humanoid. Dominate and Hold Person don't work on them. Also, our bloodrager's so powerful I have no doubt he can cleave me in two in one hit if I ever get controlled. He has 50% displacement up at all times, haste, mirror image, and can dish out 100 damage a round while providing intimidates to everyone within 30 feet on a hit. He's soloed the game basically, we're just there for the ride. If I get turned, he'll cut me in half and revive me later. If it helps with generic will saves, awesome, but against mind control I'm not too concerned.

John Woodford wrote:
Get a wayfinder and a clear spindle ioun stone (500 gp and 4000 gp), to protect yourself against some enterprising mind controller turning you against the party.

My character's a custom race, actually. A medium-sized fey. Would I need to worry about mind control then?

A familiar, you say? Well, I had hoped to get a sprite familiar at one point to help with in-combat healing and buffs but I'll give the wisp a look.....

I'm making a pyrokineticist for a game of mine tonight after losing a character. It's a custom race but essentially medium sized fey with +2 to con and dex so nothing major. I'm hoping the character can focus on pure damage and AoE since ranged firepower (literally) is something the team lacks. We're level 9 currently and I have a few feats I know I need (point blank/precise shot, improved initiative, etc) but I'm curious as to what other feats to focus on. And are there any items, wondrous or otherwise, that a pyrokineticist would benefit from the most?

"To that end, you can always substitute your effective wizard level for the purpose of determining your familiar’s abilities for “arcane spellcaster level” to determine the available improved familiars for your character. "

You have no idea how relieved I am to hear this. I had an eldritch guardian with a sprite familiar that I adore as a character, but always had to get DM fiat to make it possible. Now even in PFS it'll be a legal character! :D

*sigh* Dammit...

What alignment are you hoping for? And what classes are allowed?

Would it be an evil campaign? I have a hydrokineticist drow I wouldn't mind using, but she's neutral good and generally people frown on that so I never get a chance to use her. :(

I can't believe I got that reference....

Damn....well, thanks for considering me anyway.

I don't know how much it affects my application, but I think I might switch one of those rogue levels for bloodrager (arcane) to up her power a bit. Urban Bloodrager if it matters. Kinda wish it stacked with Spelleater, but oh well...

I don't see mine on there. The character sheet was back on the first page. Halfling monk/rogue.
Nelly doesn't have a background yet, unless I've missed it.

Nelly of The Grove is the most unusual of creatures- a fairy who relies more on her martial prowess over her magical. Born with the inability to use fey magic, she grew up an outcast among her kind. Her loneliness turned into hatred and anger, causing her to become mean and enraged at each failure she accumulated. Eventually her violent tendency was enough to exile her from The Grove for good. She wandered the planet, looking for a purpose, until she fell upon a monastery. From there she learned to hone her physical prowess. She also gained a personal philosophy about the stars in the sky being fey of old that had done something grand in their lifetime. The ones that don't become grains of sand on the beach to be washed away and forgotten. Her goal in life is to become the biggest, brightest star in the heavens so she'll always be remembered for eternity. Only then will she feel like her revenge against the Grove is complete.

Fate always has different plans for us all, however. Having wandered into Kenabres during the most recent festival, she was present when the Worldwound split open once more. Although she didn't fall into the gap created like the others, she was ambushed by demonic imps who turned her into their play thing. Through methods she's not too aware of, they stripped her of her wings and speed, changed her type, and turned her into nothing more than a very short halfling. Furious at this transgression, Nelly has vowed to bust open Hell's door herself and demand from anyone stupid enough to listen to her that they turn her back to normal.

Despite her tiny size, Nelly is extremely cocky and arrogant. She's not as easily provoked as her angry appearance would suggest, but she's very quick to attack for no reason other than she's sick of someone talking. She's perceptive, though, and usually if she's not punching or kicking someone she's observing them so she can better punch and kick them. That said, she's loyal to those that befriend her and is quick to boost the confidence of her allies. She may be only a foot tall, but you can be sure she'll always be the biggest thing in the room.

How's that?

That's true! Better switch some feats around.

She's tiny, she has no threat range. The character would rely on mythic ranks for sneak attacks.

Samnell wrote:

Sorry, I missed this earlier. I'm generally quite open to people doing rebuilds to tweak things, better fit with the campaign, or just on the grounds that it doesn't play quite so well as they like. Going in with the plan to do so is something I'm much less comfortable with. So no.

But the game is pretty close, at least in story terms, to mythic ascension. If you choose to go without then you wouldn't be missing much or for very long by having a rogue level in place of the swashbuckler level. And in the interim you would still have acrobatics to help you with flanking.

Acrobatics lets you flank?

Alright, I won't get a level of swashbuckler. Thanks for letting me know.

Quick question, what's your policy on retraining? Specifically retraining class levels? I'm thinking of keeping a level of swashbuckler until I hit mythic ranks then retraining that into rogue since I won't need flanking anymore.

Samnell wrote:
gyrfalcon wrote:
Do you know what mythic paths the current players plan to walk?

I haven't asked since the game started, so these are very much non-binding statements of intent, but here you go:

Galin: Champion, small chance for Marshal
Steave: Champion, Marshal, or Guardian
Theran: Champion
Yridhrennor: Archmage

.....if it helps my chances I was going to go Trickster. :V

I kid. Quick question, though- do I get a favored class bonus from two separate classes as a gestalt or is it still just one class (unless half elf)?

Samnell wrote:

Sorry, I wasn't as clear as I ought to have been. I meant only to help Almagafor narrow down his ideas. It wasn't a final (or even preliminary) judgement on who will join the game. That decision doesn't get made until the end of the submission period, a week hence. Your PC is still in the running, same as everyone else's.

It wouldn't be at all fair to tell people they had a week and then pick early.

It's fine, I was being a little coy anyway. Well, I think my character's finished. Now I just need to decide if I want to go tiny or stick with small until I get a mythic level. The sheet should be finished save for her backstory (which I will add later) and any final details (what to spend 500 gold on....)

Ok, for your consideration:

1. Tiefling Paladin/Sorcerer, lawful good (naturally). I ran a tiefling pally sometime ago and loved it, I've always wanted to revisit the character or someone like him. I've shopped this idea around a little bit but I think Wrath would be a great AP for him. He's an all loving kind of hero, believes that all are worthy of redemption (aside from undead and demons), and is the first into the fire and the last out. Sarenrae seems the most likely deity.

2. Slayer/Inquisitor, race undecided, lawful neutral. Fills out the skill monkey slot pretty nicely and I've been wanting to run a slayer for a while now. Thinking a kind of divine warrior/detective, road worn but still trying to do the right thing.

These two seem like they'd be the best fits of the six.

Well that doesn't inspire a vote of confidence. >.<; Either way, I'll keep updating my character sheet so please consider it. It should have a link to my chosen picture at the bottom too when I find one that works.

Samnell wrote:

General note here, since it developed after the writing of the chargen and I forgot earlier: This game uses Roll20 for battle maps. It's just way easier for me to manage things that way. If your PC is accepted, I'll grab your profile pic to use as a token and grant you control over movement and such. I'm pretty sure it works on every desktop platform, but know there is no mobile version and that might be a deal-breaker for some.

Probably not a big deal, but if it is for someone then best get it out there before anyone puts too much effort into making up a character.

Oh....I mean, normally I'd prefer roll20, but is this still pbp? I might not be able to do the time due to work and other games....

I hadn't thought of that, but it seems reasonable.

Radical, I'll update her stats so I don't have anything below 10 after the spell's applied.

Here's my character sheet. I'll update it as the day goes on. Question about mythic stuff in the future, how godly will things get? I'm thinking of incorporating my character's actual race into her backstory. Basically, she was turned into a halfling and wants to find a way to change back. Would something like that be alright to have? And what is our starting funds?

No homebrew races is indeed the case, but if you want to rework the guy as a halfling or some other standard race then that's cool.
Won't work as well if she isn't tiny. How many creatures will we face that are large size or larger? If plenty I'll submit her as a halfling. Maybe buy some reduce person potions too....

It's hard to say without going through every encounter, honestly. On top of that, I tend to add and swap things around, as well as consolidating filler and background encounters in the interests of keeping the action going at the slower online pace. There's also a decent chance that I'd toss in some extra Larges specifically for a PC specialized in fighting them, though there would still be some limits when you're indoors and allowing for forgetfulness on my part. I can't promise Giantslayer level big guy hacking, of course.

As I read Titan's Bane, it wants two or more sizes bigger than you. For a halfling without special effort, that's Large and up. But a halfling with a reduce person gets to be Tiny and would work the magic on Mediums. Since you'd be taking rogue levels anyway, you could invest in Use Magic Device. The DC to fire a wand is only 20 and the cost of a reduce person wand is all of 750 gp, out of the 6,000 at your disposal.

Down the road, Reduce Person is also something you can apply Permanency to.

Hm....that's true. I wasn't planning on investing in charisma but there are ways of using other stats for UMD. Alright, I'll join. I'll get her sheet up later tonight.

You too!? Great combo, isn't it?

Flurry of Blows + Sneak Attack = So. Much. Pain.

More than that. Unless I'm wrong, the Champion mythic path's Titan's Bane treats the enemy as flatfoot if you're in their space. The problem is the only character of mine that would be both gestalt and mythic is my fairy monk.

Well, after recalculating my stuff I'm hoping the group would be alright carrying me until I get that amulet. Once I go wis-to-damage I'll be much more powerful.

Yeah, I can see it working. He could be spending all his time trying to turn you over to a more lawful existence too.

Nixit: Let's burn the house down, much easier.

Kolfucius: The one with people in it? To what end will that accomplish?

Nixit: The house will no longer be in the way! Not my fault of there are people inside!

Kolfucius: True enlightenment comes from the challenges presented before us. This home, for example, is but one obstacle on our journey closer to spiritual awakening. Rather than taking a brute method and simply snuffing the lives of those for being "in the way", we should find another approach. One that serves to quell your urges for power without jeopardizing the lives of those that only wish to live in peace.

Nixit: .....you talk funny, you know that?

Kolfucius: Perhaps, however it was also enough time to let the people in the home escape.

Nixit: Wha- but...aw, DAMMIT!

Kolfucius: One less obstacle is one step closer to enlightenment.

If you have an idea, let's hear it. :D My character's more than willing to at least listen to you. He's the first to admit he doesn't know everything but is still willing to learn anything.

Your character's evil, right? I can probably see them as rivals, but I don't know about allies. My character wishes to reach true enlightenment. In my own campaigns he succeeds, but every heroic story has to start somewhere, so for now he's just a simple apprentice who realized the cruel, arrogant nature of kobolds was not what he wants out of life. Best way I can describe him- imagine Iroh from Avatar fused with Yoda and given a paint job to make him look like a chinese dragon.

I intend to build him so wisdom is his main stat. His AC, fort, will, diplomacy, attack, and damage will all be based on it. I plan to make him a party face of sorts (although he's too humble to call himself that, more like he enjoys meeting new people and learning new things) but he's an unchained monk through and through so expect many blows of the "flurry" variety.

I'm new to the messageboards, will you accept a mythweavers sheet?

Here is what my kobold would look like: Kolfucius

Lawful good gold-scaled kobold. He'd have the alt racial traits Wyrmcrowned and Day-Raider. Don't let the beard fool you, it's glued on because he's under the belief that as long as he looks like a wise monk people will start to believe he is.

It probably is, and that works out for me better.

Wait, we're allowed to create our own races to bring? Because I have a fairy race I'd love to use.

Would a golden-scaled monk kobold be alright? I wanted to make the wisest kobold in existence so I'll also be the nabbing the Guided enchant when I can get my claws on one for an AoMF. I was thinking lawful good but if this is an evil campaign I understand.

So if a dragon does a breath attack Bastion of Good would reduce the damage to anyone other than me caught in the blast?

I'm trying to make a sacred shield for a game I'll be joining but the players seem to think Bastion of Good won't affect all damage like the ability implies. I tried finding credible proof of this but nothing's come up. Does Bastion of Good reduce damage from sources like traps, breath weapons, magic damage, etc. like it implies? Or is it only physical damage?

Damn...well that explains it. Nevermind then.

I'm trying to work on an unchained summoner for a game of mine that has wide open spaces and lots of small enemies to fight. I wanted to make a gargantuan-sized eidolon who's whole thing is it stomps around the battlefield, smashing everything in its path. Looking at Bulette Rampage it looks like I could do that. Unless I missed something I only need to qualify for heavy armor to use the feat tree and I can turn some of the eidolon's natural armor into normal armor AC. I'm wondering, which one would be more effective: Trampling enemies with an evolution or bulette style?
