male 55, been dming since 1975. No military. Been through all the editions of D&D and other rpgs. Went to Pathfinder about two years ago.

The Exchange

the searchers
tombstone
High Noon
Outlaw josey Wales
Fist full of Dollars
A few dollar more.
Unforgiven
Good bad and the Ugly

some of these have been mentioned before but they are some of my favorites

The Exchange

Endgame in Oakland. Gator Games in San Mateo. Endgame is more impressive to look at. Gator has more stuff in a smaller space.

The Exchange

My group prefers the 4d6 drop the lowest. I also have them roll a 7th stat and keep the best six. There is one guy that constitantly rolls a bit better than the others but nobody seems to mind and the group has been together for a long time.

The Exchange

My Homebrew is where I run my pathfinder games.

The Exchange

Agree with the others about the exploding crit and fumble. It will result in too many dead pcs.

The Exchange

I agree with R chance. My setting is 30 years old itself. He is right about the longer and more intimate you are with it, adventures can write themselves and takes less paperwork to get things ready.

The Exchange

Do you all have the bad guys get the same benefits as the players. If so probably a lot of dead players. You as the dm have countless bad guys who can roll crits and such. The players are more finite. I could be wrong.

The Exchange

I had never seen the magic rating thing before. It looks interesting but I believe we can keep Nora challenged and challenging for some time.

The Exchange

I am the dm for the game Nora(utgardloki) is playing and have been finding the character a pleasant surprise. We worked on her background together and the character is setting goals for her in the future of the game.

adequate financing is also a big part, you need to be able to weather the financial storm until things begin to pick up. As some of the others said, a clean store, a knowledgeable staff that is friendly, carry things that you might not care for that do sell well.

Negative side, parents will leave their kids there and expect you to be sort of a free daycare. I had it happen within the store I managed, and its a not pleasant after being forced to contact the authorities about it.

Theft will always be a problem, if you lock everything behind glass you will risk losing sales so some sort of compromise will have to be made. The bigger problem will be shrinkage from employees. That does happen.

You will have to appeal to a larger market also. Bring in family games and puzzles. Puzzles sell well during certain times of the year and we used to recommend them for parties as an icebreaker.

Best of luck in your store.

The Exchange

timing is everything I had a guy asking about it today. thanks for the information.

The Exchange

we rolled initiative every round and have been doing so for years. It hasn't been a problem and new players pick it up pretty easily. We based round duration on the players turn so if he went last in one round and first in the second you counted off a of the duration. Holding was good till end of round. Sometimes nothing happened and you did nothing. It worked both ways. Somebody was designated to do the counts each game.

We feel that it brings a much more chaotic action in the fight.

My comments:

Oaths: Some need to be rewritten or deleted, In particular, chastity, greed and purity. It to me appears to be too easy to gain these without some real consequences to the character. The greed one in particular, doesn't seem to jive with the flavor of the character.

If there is to be a oath of greed, there should be a oath of Charity. The cavalier must give his wealth to the poor to gain say a +2 to diplomacy and sense motive and maybe something else.

If the cavalier is to be a inspiring type of character, he should give a bonus to others vs fear or a will save within 30 ft radius.

The cavalier could be broken up into two tracks, one mounted representing nobility, the other track could be foot for the commoner.

The cavalier should get a ride bonus to the character

Expert trainer should come in a earlier level.

Orders: the order of the Dragon doesnt seem to fit the motif of the cavalier.

I see the orders as a great background conflict in a campaign setting. The order of the Lion vs The shied or the star.

The Exchange

starting cash for both classes. I didnt find it in the descriptions, perhaps I missed it.
