Behind the screen:

As you look over the gruesome scene (10 PPs of meat, btw), Mac's hackles suddenly raise and a low growl emanates from his chest. Oona has been with him long enough to know that he smells a threat nearby. Looking around, Oona notices two large reptilian noses barely peeking over the surface of the stream. So far, they don't seem to realize that you know they are there.

You are contacted by the influential Tiboros family of Nisroch, who had heard of the group from previous exploits. The family is worried over the wellbeing of their youngest daughter, Anya. A year ago she married a handsome baron, Stepan Boroi, from rural Karpad, and 2 months ago she gave birth to a son. All seemed fine for Anya until her frequent letters to her parents mentioned her husband's growing paranoia and erratic behavior. Three weeks ago her letters stopped altogether, and her family wants answers.

Nikolai, Anya's father, and Zuzana, Anya's mother, are sick with worry. Anya is the only daughter they have married outside of Nisroch, and they seem distraught that they may have indirectly caused harm to come to her. "It is so unlike Anya to stop writing so abruptly," Nikolai said to the group when they met at the Tiboros manor. "Her letters arrived every week, like clockwork. We had been worried about marrying her so far from home, but she truly seemed to be growing to care for Stepan and Karpad. She was overjoyed to be a mother and seemed so happy. We felt such relief. But then Anya started speaking of changes in Stepan. He became more and more paranoid, irritable, and reclusive. His interactions with her grew terse and almost cruel, and he stopped seeing their son altogether."

Zuzana, whose puffy, bloodshot eyes and pale, gaunt cheeks clearly belied the past days of worry and sleeplessness, then spoke. "And then the letters stopped coming. When the first week passed, we didn't think too much of it. Then the second and the third weeks passed, and we just knew something was wrong." Zuzana suppressed a sob. Nikolai noticed this and began to speak, but Zuzana put her hand out and shook her head. She gathered herself. "I apologize. You cannot imagine how difficult it is to have no idea what is happening, but to be sure that it is something bad. I know it in my heart. We are begging you. Go to Karpad and find out what has happened."

The Tiboros family promised the group 5000 gp to cover expenses and thank you for your trouble (to be paid when the group returns to Nisroch with news, good or bad). They provided a map, horses, and traveling supplies for the journey.

The simplest route from Nisroch to Karpad is to travel up the Usk River past Pangolais to the minor river known as Dimar’s Way. While too narrow and shallow for water travel, Dimar’s Way carves a path through the countryside, and a road -- known as Geron’s Way near Karpad -- runs parallel to the river from Pangolais to beyond Karpad. We join the party while embarked on this journey, which will take several weeks.

READ ME!:

Here is a map of the region.

There aren't any mechanics for travel in this module but I figured it would be the perfect way for you all to introduce your characters and discuss their appearance, motivations, maybe some backstory, how the hell an oread, a half-undead, a sylph, and an ifrit ended up as an adventuring party, etc. Roleplay it up, boys! We'll do this for a bit and then get the actual module started. Ready.... GO!
