No. Seltyiel's Marauder power cares about the traits on the card itself. If you are putting a card into your discard pile or you are recharging a card and that card has the required trait, you can draw a card. It doesn't matter what the traits of the check to recharge the spell where, only what the traits on the spell card itself are.

As to why you would add that trait to the recharge check, not that it also adds to the check to acquire. Jirelle having this card would have 2 shots at acquiring spells. And there are also lots of other things that care about when your check has the Swashbuckling trait.

Seltyiel might want to stock up on Blessing of Besmara if he has the Spellcaster's Tricorne.

Cool. I've been playing as if it hadn't worked due to the distinction but I felt it was something that was riding on the line and worth a shot asking.

What I have been doing is changing out my weapon armory from holding falcatas to pistols & rapiers, as well as prioritizing pirate allies like Giffer Tibbs for her discard to draw the bottom card of your deck ability(after marauder triggers). Displaying a sphere and drawing on a weapon recharge for every combat means each weapon is potentially another explore if I draw a blessing/ally out of it.

Once I get the 2 cards per recharge, Seltyiel is going to be heavily frontloaded for knocking out locations.

Re: Besmara, I think that's a pretty poor idea since with the +2 and skill bonuses, Seltyiel doesn't really need that second die to recharge or acquire a card. Especially for recharges since he gets a second chance at the end of his turns.

Okay, I looked everywhere and didn't see an answer relating to this so I must ask; Can you use Spellmaster's Tricorne to trigger Seltyiel's Marauder power and draw cards when recharging a spell?

I bring it up because nowhere else do I see a use for adding swashbuckling when recharging spells (Jirelle can't do this), yet the Tricorne only adds the trait to the check, whereas Seltyiel's power specifies that the card needs to be swashbuckling.

I think I've been playing this game wrong the entire time. Does this mean for a "combat then combat" check, a) I would be limited to 1 blessing (and other card types too) per person for the entirety of both checks? b) if using a weapon for the first combat, would be unable to use a weapon for the second?
No, you're fine. On a multi-check card (such as a monster with Combat THEN Combat), each check is a separate check, so the one card type per person per check refreshes.

Oh okay. Thanks for the clarification!

I am just wondering when exactly I play it. It seems on a bane with multiple checks, I would play it during the first check and it would affect the future checks too, even though I wouldn't be playing it during this checks (which are separate steps).

A good question—I'd say the we want you to play it when you would attempt the check. Which would mean we'd need to add a sentence to that effect under "Attempt the Check" (page 10 of the Wrath rulebook).

Would anything prevent me from attempting check 1 normally then playing such a card for checks 2+?

Doing what I said above would. :-)

Does anything that happens while I am attempting a check need to happen multiple times? For example, if a location said "When you attempt a check, recharge a card." And I used this kind of card to defeat a bane with 3 checks to defeat, do I recharge 3 cards?
Because you play it when you *would* attempt the check, you don't actually attempt the check, so none of that stuff ever happens.

I played Ezren/Seelah and a friend played Lem/Kyra. In the second half we changed the rules to a variant where we seeded the henchmen/villains into the latter half of the deck to eat more of the timer.

Kyra died once in AD4; we didn't replay all the previous scenarios for the sake of time and granted her scenario rewards to catch her up. However, we only kept the cards that could be kept between the remaining 3 characters in between scenarios and had her deck recreated based on adventure deck rules for new characters before trading around.

For Seelah, I totally would've not taken more weapons, but more weapons was a better choice than more armor IMO.
