![]() Hi there so one of my players for our upcoming mummys mask gig came up with a great back story/theme for his undead lord. I was so wowed that i thought i had to somehow put it into play in the game. here is the back story/theme: Comes from a noble or rich merchant family.he is the youngest son
but a rival from another nobel family also wanted to marry her. When he couldnt have her , he made a pact with a demon/devil . in a single night they slaugtered his whole family and his fiances to. every last one was killed, only by some sort of"miracle" did the pc survive. his homestead was burnt to the ground and he lost all wealth with it. he now wishes revenge over his rival... to kill him and the fiends that helped him. one of the gods (cant really find any that suit with the death domain :( ) has given him signs/visions that if he "followed" the god he could achive his goals. his goals are: get revenge over rival, kill the fiend, bring his love back to life. he is not playing an evil character, but his persuit of knowledge to bring back his love, drives him into the "dark" knowlegde of necromancy. he uses his talents to fight evil. so... none of the gods with the death domain really suit the story. well maybe the redmantis one.. but some og the revenge gods might work.. but they dont have the death domain... what to do? i was thinking that maybe the "fiend" cheated his rival, and is perhaps now posseing her dead corpes. or that she is not dead but she as lost her soul and is basicly just a lobotomy case, with no memorys and know abilities to gain any.i got an visual ideer from reading about sylhps... pale skine and swirling blue tattoes with demonic texts. something were his rival his rival has undcovered a minor pyramid/burial chamber in the dessert, and has mummies carrying her around in there. perhaps trying to mummyfy her and be rid of her .. wall of text... what is your input? all ideers are welcome ![]()
![]() Ahem.... excuse me while i put on my big boy thinking pants:) noble@: aaah of course not... just wanted to be sure DM BLAKE@: again of course not , never have before so why start.. how silly i am.. and i hear on the fudging a little something unplanned for the players... cant count how many times a potion of healing has been conviniently added to the loot :) allright im all clear.. almost:) do you make a dunguen and ad all the treasure values for each encounter and then spread it out..? ( dm you mentioned something along those lines) or do you roll/pick for each encounter in the dungeon? and finally, the CR is basicly what you guys use as the treasure amount indicator (if the beast has any) ? ![]()
![]() ok.. seems im not the only one a bit confused. but thanks for all the input, i think im getting there.. So.. ( DM BLAKE)if i make a dungeon crawl, i should take all the encounters treasure, add it all up and spread it out as i see fit?
but if thats the case, what do you do if they level up during the crawl, and you have allready determinde the treasure before hand? and thanks cheif cook, i had "forgotten that part" oh, heres something ive also fought about. Say the party has an encounter, which is a "normal" apl cr. But after two player turns they defeat the beast without breaking a sweat or tkaing a scratch, do you then level down the treasure value for this encounter to an "easy" value ? Or is it basicly what others have written that when all is said and done, is the cr that detremins treasure output? I just need it as simple as possibly:) ![]()
![]() And when the treasure entry says standard its just that... but what does it mean when it says other? dm's choice? double is just that, of the standard amount. and triple the same ... If thats the case, a pseudodragon (p 229, beast. 1) gives standard treasure . Which is worth 260gp for a apl. of 1. Now if that same party meets a pseudodragon at apl. 6, it still gives a standard treasure. but thats now bumbed up to 2000gps worth. right? just trying to get to gribs with the mechanics ![]()
![]() but .... well allright ive been away from table top since ad&d , so there are a lot of things i feel comfortable with and a lot i dont with pathfinder:) so to recap: we use apl. to determine the treasure value for each encounter... then just radomly determine what it is from a arabien stallion to 10 saks of corn?? ![]()
![]() wow this is a piz poor system... i miss the days of ADD..
geez paizo anybody else got tips or stuff to help out? i bought the equibment guide solely for the treasure tables, although its a cool book just doesnt fit the gap i wanted ![]()
![]() hey there. beeing a complete noob, i cant get my head around the treasure tables... So assuming a party og two second level pc's APL 1 (2+2/2= 2-1 for being less than 3 members =1) kill a ghoul. This gives them according to table 12-5 of the core book, a net sum treasure of 260gp on a average base campaign. The same party, by luck of the dice and the "lack of same" of the dm dice kill a cloud giant. They still get the same gp sum worth og treasure plus equipment... + other, what ever that means?? What am i missing, i just cant seem right?? ![]()
![]() Hey Are. Yeah i agree that there shouldnt be a challange rating, because it doesnt cause them damage or has the potential to do so. Seems right. well at the end of the crawl, the hole thing collapses in on itself, so its permantly stopped. They are 2 level 2 players, so a dc 0f 2 plus 10-11 seems fair.. thanks ![]()
![]() Hey guys So ill be running my pc's through a crypt of lamasthu.. And i was playing around with the idea that as soon as they step foot into the crypt, they either suffer from the shaken or sickened condition. Due to all the ancient curroption. Now ill let them make a fortitude check to shake of the effects, but what should the dc be and is this counted as a trap? And if so how to work out the cr.. The table 13-3 doesnt really help much. all the best ![]()
![]() so heres what i think ill do: appraise check dc 10 to determine value of a mundane item dc 15 for weapons and armor dc 20 for rare and the magical detection. if you succed your check you know the half price value.
and on failure you get the negative equivelent. how do you think this house rule will work? ![]()
![]() @;"Ah. I was unaware that capitalization was an English language invention" http://youtu.be/N4vf8N6GpdM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ahh that rule. i read it as going through a crack in the wall or for an excample squeezing through to walls closing in on each other... i hadnt giving thought to it beeing an active rule all the time, only on the above mentioned occasions. and must admit it seems a bit over the top having to use escape artist to move along, say the wall in the hall behind the classworking room. but thanks for your thoughts... i think ive been making it into a bigger thing than it was , in my head. all the best ![]()
![]() im not from a english speaking country!!! so to make it clear what i mean: i still think it was a bad idea to print the classworks that way( map layout)making it harder to draw.. just move goblins closer if u want them to close in faster! well just my opinion, guess im the only one who thinks this.. as for thistletop ,what i meant was the bramble/wooded bit before the island on the map on page 41. both the glasswork map and the mentioned bit of thistletop map are in my opinion a bit tricky/hard to draw out on a peice of a4.. and i just wanted to hear how any you guys handled it.. any tips.. i might just be over thinking it taggent what do you mean by this: "If a player is forced into a "half" square because of a wall, they should suffer a penalty to combat and defense"
im sorry if i was unclear and my grammer/spelling isnt up to forum standard.. all the best mark ![]()
![]() hey there.. so my party is just about ready to begin the rune lord path..
first of the class works. all though not impossible to draw up on paper..
and second and this really gets me scrathing my head and other stuff for that matter... is how did u guys draw out the land part (not the island) of thistletop??? this might seem easy for u veteran dm's but this got me a bit... well grumpy all advice welcome cheers ![]()
![]() hey guys yet another noob question. it says in the cr that pc's sell items at half price. but under appraise it says that with a succesful roll u determine the value of the item... so does that mean with a succesful appraise check u still only get halv an items wurth in gold? if so whats the point in using that skill? ![]()
![]() hey guys so my question is this: when it states a monster has a melee att bite and 2 claws ( barghest)
all the best mark. ![]()
![]() RuyanVe wrote:
aaaah ofcourse how silly i am.. thanks man ![]()
![]() Yeah sorry . I ment if anybody has made encounter maps, wich are big enough to use with pawns/figures. Some of the maps er quite hard to draw out your self, with all the funny angles etc. Also is there anyone WHO has made printerble versions of/all of the player hand outs.
Hope this clears up what i meant, lol All the best ![]()
![]() thanks lads.. oh yeah the page 43 thing has got the favored weapons on, missed that lol:) havent playede d&d since add.. so alot has changed:) well i was going to run a horror themed game ( love them zombies) and bought the carrion crown 1 module. but as im new to pathfinder and the rules ,i found some of the ecounters and end monsters a bit confusing. and didnt want run something half assed. so as my players are going to start with the beginnersbox game, and then progress through some further encounters to beef them up ( 2 wizards, and a cleric) there start will be in ... den den deeeeen... Sandpoint! and my new plan is to run the runelord setting.. thanks so far... oh and the clerics are they limited to the favored weapon or is it up to the pc? ![]()
![]() another newbie question from me:) 1# if u are wearing armor u are proficient with say a breastplate and a light steel sheild , u get an ac bonus total of +7 and a ac check penalty of -5. u have a total ac of +7+10 (+ a dex bonus of 3 max)=17 (20 if u have the dex) right? 2# now the ac check penalty of -5 applies to all SKILL checks made with dex/str. but does the -5 penalty also apply to say a +3 str mod to damage rolls and to the attack rolls ( or is the attack roll penalty only apply to non proficient armor?) all the best |
