I would think the high priest of Abadar would have the only key to a vault, or perhaps knew the location of a great treasure vault. Maybe it's apart of a grand heist, or some evil going after an artifact. Given Osirion, maybe he knows the location of a pyramid vault or something of that nature.

Dotting this for later consumption and contribution. My only critique for the first installment was the lack of extra-party development.

Mr. Gerbik,

After Reign of Winter, I found that hampered terrain mixed with hampered vision does a very big number on an ill prepared party (melee has a bit of a drag in terms of meeting the enemy, archers taking a penalty to fire). Although I don't think those kind of things will really come up until the third and fourth installment, so by then, the party should be better prepared.

As the opening structure is a little loose, I'm going to adapt the caravan bit from Legacy of Fire's opening, with some additions, to form the group. Although I've also thought of adapting and thematically customizing the beginner box as well.

Jim,

I really appreciate you providing a little insight into the mind of adventure writer. I know it's small in the grand scheme of things, looking at one particular object in the inventory. I saw it, pondered the mechanics and wanted to confirm the thought.

Spoiler:
I also look forward to using that boomstick along with her loose definition of friendly fire. For drama.

I thought so, and because it was a bonded item, it didn't seem like it was intended to be recoverable treasure. I just have a few folks who'll be disappointed after having fun with a similar item in Reign of Winter (although it was a little more potent in that adventure).

Question: an arcane bonded item is just a masterwork item when the owner bites the dust? It's not really treasure because the magic goes with the owner? I'm looking at a certain wizard's boom stick.

As a suggestion for more... extra-party interaction? What if two groups meet up on the journey back out of the dead city and have a beefed up encounter? Depending on how many rolls you'd like to put into it, it may be a little complicated, but it could provide some interesting opportunities. And if with the scorched hand group, foreshadowing.

I agree with PD. I would rule that someone could be pulled under the surface and if they we're let go, I'd let then immediately rise back. I believe we house ruled it in our own games that water walk allowed you kneel and such on the surface and the spell generally provided a barrier, so if prone, the character would still be just over the surface.

As for being pulled down in a grapple situation, I would grant the character a +4 (+8 if you're generous, it is a force raising you up 10 ft/sec) to resist being pulled directly down (the move grapple action), as there is a "buoyant" force pulling him directly up.

Unless the liquid was an acid or heat hazard, I wouldn't rule it as a hazardous location.

I have to say, the amount of detail on the NPCs backgrounds and motivations is... awesome for a lack of a better word at this late hour. Unfortunately my group is swing the axe first, talk later, but with this I feel like I can create a dialogue among the die rolls for these people. And create drama with it.

David,

I'm trying to avoid stepping on the toes of the two party members that are melee oriented with another fighter. Also, I would rather not create another creature for me to control. I could make a one note fighter with low intelligence that is simple for another player to run, but I also rather my players focus on their characters. But thank you for the advice :)

I'm not a fan of the GM-PC unless he's a "red cloak" and I can kill him for story telling purposes.

I believe they're on par with 20- point buy with their rolls (4d6, take best of 3d6, 6 times). If they don't like their rolls, they have a option of point buy. HP is either average rounded up, or ,if rolled, at minimum average rounded down (to create risk of rolling without severe punishment).

They're one level higher than the published material with treasure appropriate to said level.

Do you think 25 would be more appropriate?

Hello everyone, not sure if this is the correct forum, but I'm seeking advice as a GM. I've recently lost a player due to them moving away and I would like to continue using pathfider pre-made adventures for my group (now 3 players). I was wondering if bumping them to one level above the established level is the best quick fix for this due to parties of three being APL-1. I know action economy may be against them.

Does this adjustment work in practice?

Sorry for creating a redundant thread, I tried searching it and I have ^yet to find a meaningful answer.
