The Japanese were forced ro surrender because they had no way to fight back. They were defeated abroad and had no air force. They were waiting for a land invasion which would never come. I dont think any Pact World has been in such a situation.

I think point is that if no one would hypothetically play the class through to level 20 then the class is trash and shouldn't be playable at all. If all you want from it is a dip that's fine, but if that's all everyone and anyone wants from it that's a crap class.

The mechanic-operative thing, as far as computers, is a resilience vs power question. Operatves can have a better bonus but mechs can take tricks that block IC. If it is possible for the operative to fail, they eventually will, the mech will fail more often but with less consequence, and can therefore probably try again.

With Engineering we have a similar problem, if you need a simple job, something that takes one action, the highr skill bonus is better. If you have something that may take a while and you're in a crunch, mechs have some nice tricks for that or you could just roll crazy high.

If there's something odd going on it's that the mechs abilities are mostly optional while an operative can keep pace with a mechanics skill bonus just by having an above average Int.

Spells like Acid Rain arent for damage, or the rider. Sure if you can trap your enemy that'd be nice but the point is to deny ground, like Miasma.

Haunted Armor is worse than Hold Person, except Hold Person can be saved out of. I guess I'd rather have Hold Person from a purely tactical POV but I'd make due with Haunting if it was on theme.

Haunted Combatant is worse than Inflict Pain, but Inflict Pain is a mind-affecting spell lots of things are immune to.

Predict Foe could be nice if you stack it with some effect that has no concentration. And there's no save. Just "-20% to your attack bonus, deal with it." I kinda like that. Bit high level though.

I'm not sure I'd let a player move through walls with Reality Bend. Unless the could normally move through walls. The spell doesn't say or imply the movements can go through things. I think this is an oversight. Could the spell be used to climb up on a balcony? If the target is willing can you just toss them 10 feet in the air? *shrug* Leaves a lot to interpretation.

Song Of The Cosmos is useless in combat. It could be used to stall some enemies for a round, or buy a few seconds to diffuse a tense situation. Most likely you would use it as a distraction out of combat though.

74. A program with magical code and a warning not to run. If run the code leaves the computer manifesting into an infernal Outsider of immense power. The demon rampages out and goes about its evil business.

75. A sentient computer virus that turns every piece of technology the person who opens it has or comes into contact with into Talky-toaster from Red Dwarf or Hal from 2001.

76. Another magic program with a label begging to be run. The program sucks anyone nearby into a virtual reality game, a la tron. The game is a version of whatever your favorite videogame is.

I think it's a question of science-fantasy. Starwars doesn't have too many huge cities in the films. This gives things a more cowboy/ fantasy adventure vibe. But then there are planets like Verces and Aballon...

As far as common races go I think it's just that they're everywhere. Yeah, the densest places are the various races homeworlds and they don't outnumber other non-common races, but verthani and ryphorians don't live on Eox or Castroval in significant numbers, humans and ysoki do.

Redundancy is nice. Not just for aid another, but sometimes you need two people with the same skill; if you split the party or your mechanic is busy with something else.
Starship combat is a situation where having multiple engineers and pilots is really nice.
