I was just reading the rulebook and it did mention on page 17 under Check to defeat that if the Bane had the word None in it, it could not be defeated, then it immediately stated that you must take damage dealt by monsters, so I thought some of the banes with the None check would be monsters. I am still awaiting the game to arrive early next week and I wanted to go thru the rulebook before I got the game. So I take it that there are no monsters with the word None under check, only other types of banes which then state an alternate way to defeat it.
Thanks for the info.

Nope. If you cannot or choose not to evade it, you must read the card and do what it says
So the only options for a bane with a check of None would be either to evade it or to take the damage from it, since there are no spells (as of today anyway) that can defeat this type of Bane.
It might help if you gave an example of what Bane in particular you are thinking of.
All the Barriers that say "Check to Defeat NONE" have specific instructions on what to do instead. Most of them are the "Mass Encounter" barriers where each character that meets the criteria of powers on the barrier card has to encounter a particular Monster. There is also the Pit of Malfeshnekor but that one too is very specific with what to do in its Powers section. But none of them directly deal damage to you simply for encountering them. You have to do something else, like fail to defeat the summoned henchman or keep a card in the Pit of Malfeshnekor 's case.
I'm pretty sure all the Monsters (so far) have a check to defeat of some kind.
And the only henchman I can think of that is a NONE is the Haunt, which you place next to your character card. But again it doesn't deal damage to you.
"Mass Encounter" Barriers can be evaded, as can the haunts, since they lack the words "When encountered". If you evade them, shuffle them back into their location decks. If you don't evade them, do what ever the powers say.
