Male Human Traveling Salesman 2

yes! Been waiting for this day. I'll probably post tonight cause i'm too impatient to wait.

Male Human Traveling Salesman 2

Sorcerer sounds like it would be more fun and i don't think we have a full caster so it could prove useful

Also I have no problem hosting a personal gear page for everyone if they'd like. They're just responsible for keeping it up to date on their own. This way they don't have to muck with the formulas if they don't want.

I'm so happy you didn't post that you made this and I just wasted my time on it. I know it'll be awhile until it's needed but at least it's ready for when we get to it.

As for the personal gear tracker, it seems simple enough. I'll toss it together and copy that encumbrance formula you have. i need to show that to my wife, she loves playing with excel and would probably get a kick out of it.

I have a short sword as well for melee as well as Ruina that'll probably be my body guard until she trusts Sara on her own with combat. Spreadsheet would probably be best for our loot list. I'll take a crack at maintaining it if you want since you probably have enough on your plate with running the AP. I'll study yours from ironfang and do my best.

Male Human Traveling Salesman 2

these are some cool designs. I'm having fun thinking of how Sara's gonna be around some of you. Especially Indra and Alex since I have this idea of Sara being fairly nonviolent and the two of them don't seem to shy away from it when needed.

Male Human Traveling Salesman 2

In all honesty, so am I. I realized that this morning driving to work that she's this great person but I don't really have a push for her to join other than what she feels is for the betterment of Kintago. I mentioned in the survey that she works with a small church of Ragatheil to take care of the citizens that the church and nobles cast aside. I'll have to see if anything kinda fits into this.

I'm really excited about her first combat encounter. She's used to killing animals and such but I can't wait to see how she handles killing another human.

edit: The one that seems to make the most sense to me is protesting the government. Since she's somewhat active in helping the needy in the city, she would be worried that Thrune's takeover could be a deathblow to these innocent people.

Male Human Traveling Salesman 2

Finally got around to writting up a better backstory for Sara. It's different for me cause Sara's not an adventurer. Usually my character have some sort of training or some drive to be a hero, but Sara is just living her life. So part of me feels like something is missing and the other part of me feels this is arguably one of my better character backstories. I also finally get around to naming Sara's siblings.

Male Human Traveling Salesman 2

The ownership being in Mikhail's name makes mkre sense cause then Sara's mom would have a harder time tracking her down. So probably whole the shop may sell different baubles, clothing, etc made from leather, Sara would just have the tools for properly getting the hide on her. I'll probably go masterwork since i have the gp.

Male Human Traveling Salesman 2

I like it. so with the now masterwork bow and masterwork armor I'd be at... like 535 spent of the 900. So i got a little spending. I know i need tanning equipment... assuming there's tanning equipment to buy. Otherwise i'll just say "tanning kit" and cost it like 30 gp which is how much kits can sometimes be. Sound good?

Male Human Traveling Salesman 2

Still, got room to retweek a bit. Masterwork chainshirt would be 200 gp thouhh, right?

Male Human Traveling Salesman 2

Thats a lot of gp. I may retweek my starting gear a little too to reflect it but nothing too drastic, maybe a chainshirt instead of studded leather. I don't wanna soend to much since it also makes sense for me to have some pocket change incase i need to do any kinda purchases.

Also i think i have a rather cool idea for Ruina. Since she's part fey, i think, she'd be long lived. Perhaps Sara was her grandfathers favorite, being such a feee spirit and all. Ruina was origionally his and she was insructed to watch over Sara after he passed. Turns out Ruina's been watching over the family for generations.

Hi, all - was hoping I'd get this out yesterday, but Toddlers often have other plans. :) Here's some initial thoughts on your PCs.

Also, if you're starting to build up your character, like GPN did with Saraphim, you can either take the average for class starting wealth, or you can roll for your total wealth instead of the average.

Thanks for the complements. Had a lot of fun writing it up.

Always thought masterwork weapons were only +100 gp... yeah, i'll do the rich parents to balance it out and work on a propper background too with a better meeting with ruina.

Male Human Traveling Salesman 2

hrm. If I were to take a draw back I'd say Attached or Lovesick with Mikhail (i know you're suppose to choose but I feel it makes the most sense) would be best but there's also secret shame with her family finding out.

Spoiler:
1. Yes, she rather go by Sara. Saraphim is typically only used by her mother or when Mikhail is frustrated with her.
2. I honestly forgot to put Ruina in her write up. I figured she was a pup that Sara and Mikhail took in without realizing she was more than just am average wolf-dog.
3. I'll makr those edits but they're craft and knowledge nobility.
4. NG. Meant to change it. CG was how i first invisioned her before the noble route.
5. Not just her appearence but also as a form of rebellion towards her family. Whereas her mother may be flowery and misleading with her words Sara prefers to be brash and to the point.
6. The 200 gp item was a mwrk composite longbow 0. Family heirloom. I'm thinking of asking my wife to design a famiky sigil for her too.
7. Didn't think about it. I guess fine leather goods makes sense.
8. I honestly pictured him kinda plain looking for a teifling too. Light red skin, skin on his arms are a bit more tough and almost scale like below the elbows, and small horns on his forehead.

Male Human Traveling Salesman 2

i think i'm gonna go courtly. kinda changing up my original idea for the character but whatever. not to fond of losing the tiger animal focus since i'm doing a ranged character but i'll live

Male Human Traveling Salesman 2

I have not seen those archetypes so i'll definetly look into them... actually i haven't seen any of ultimaye intrigue cause i forgot about it. As for animal companion i was thinking wolf and flavoring him into like a wolf-dog hybrid. Big beautiful beast that the higher ups don't think should belong to some street urchin.

Male Human Traveling Salesman 2

I'm definetly looking at the hunter. I've wanted to play one for awhile but never really got a good chance to try one out. I know charisma looked pretty important when going over the player's guide but i figured everyone can't just be charisma based so yeah. hunter. probably human for that extra feat to make the ranged combat viable.

All that sounds good. I'll definetly need to look at downtime rules. I already got a fun idea in my head to maybe flesh out a little more.

A bit about me too: work retail with fairly laidback cellphone rules. No hurricanes coming towards me so i don't forsee any blackout dates in my future except usual holiday stuff

Ever since I saw the quickdraw hideaway limb, I"ve been wanting to make Tracer from overwatch. Especially seeing there's the speed suspension legs that can increase base speed by 30. Make her an operative which can also increase speed by 30. meaning that with light armor she'd have a speed of 90 ft which i think is awesome. I just need the free time to try to put her together. Probably have the Ace Pilot theme since Tracer was a test pilot before she became a hero.

I meant more fluff creation than crunch. Tweaking the backstory a bit. Her story's actually pretty similar to another character from a discontinued game and thought it woukd be cool to do said background tweaks. But like i said, i can easiky do thag later.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Screw it, i'm going envoy. Woukd like to personalize her more to make her mine but whatever, i can always do that later.

I'm leaning towards either Envoy or Solarian. Envoy cause i like faces (either being a face or beating one in). Solarian cause its so different than any other class I'm used to. I'll wait and see how everyone else goes before giving my final vote.

I'm definetly interested. I'll pick a pregen when i get home and have access to a computer. I'll probably just post under this name.

Ah, so I don't need the feat at all to take the alternate abilities?

Aasimars don't need a feat for the alternate heritage. It's tieflings that do (something I think is really stupid).

Allow me to introduce you to the lost Sumana Youngblood. She's pretty much built, just need to spend that starting gold so minor tweaks.

Rage (Ex) - +2 bonus on melee attack rolls, melee damage rolls, thrown weapon damage rolls, and Will saving throws. In addition, she takes a –2 penalty to Armor Class. She also gains 2 temporary hit points per Hit Die. These temporary hit points are lost first when a character takes damage, disappear when the rage ends, and are not replenished if the barbarian enters a rage again within 1 minute of her previous rage. While in a rage, a barbarian cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skill (except Acrobatics, Fly, Intimidate, and Ride) or any ability that requires patience or concentration (such as spellcasting).

A barbarian can end her rage as a free action, and is fatigued for 1 minute after a rage ends. A barbarian can’t enter a new rage while fatigued or exhausted, but can otherwise enter a rage multiple times per day. If a barbarian falls unconscious, her rage immediately ends.

Accurate Stance (Ex) - The barbarian can focus her strikes. She gains a +1 competence bonus on melee attack rolls and thrown weapon attack rolls. This bonus increases by 1 for every 4 levels the barbarian has. This is a stance rage power.

Uncanny Dodge (Ex) - A barbarian gains the ability to react to danger before her senses would normally allow her to do so. She cannot be caught flat-footed, nor does she lose her Dexterity bonus to AC if immobilized. A barbarian with this ability can still lose her Dexterity bonus to AC if an opponent successfully uses the feint action against her.

10 min background:
Step 1: Write 5 background and concept elements that you feel are important to your image of the
character. These can be a concept overview, a list of important life events, a physical description, a
personality profile...whatever you need to get an image in your mind. 5 is just a minimum...more elements are encouraged!
Her mother was a singer and often performed in cities their merchant clan traveled too. She was teaching Sumana to sing as well.
She never knew her father. Her mother said he was one of the guards for the caravan and died protecting everyone from a bandit raid. Others in the caravan never spoke of her father when asked.
Among the Silver Stags, Sumana specializes in hunting monsters and other large creatures.
Sumana has long strawberry blonde hair, shaved to stubble on the lower left side. Some of her Varisian tattoos go over this spot. She has multiple piercings on her ears.
She has two items of great importance to her: first is a silver locket she wears at all times around her neck, inside is picture of her with her mother. The second is part an owlbear claw she wears as an earring in her right ear. The owlbear was the first mission she did with the Silver Stags and she views it as a good luck totem.
Step 2: List at least two goals for the character. At least one of these goals should be one that the
character has, while another should be one that you, as a player, want to see developed over the course
of the game.
To track down and defeat the monster that killed her clan.
I would love to see her find as much peace as one can as a barbarian.
Step 3: List at least two secrets about your character. One is a secret the character knows, one is a secret that involves him but that he is not actually aware of yet. This will help me in creating plots that center around your character. I will also be creating a third secret which you as a player will not be
aware of, so expect some surprises!
Known: Sumana suffers from bloodlust, though is afraid to admit it. She finds herself craving battle and sometimes puts herself into more dangerous situations than she should.
Unknown: She is the monster that killed her clan.
Step 4: Describe at least three people that are tied to the character. Two of them are friendly to the
character, one is hostile. If you like, you can include an enemy of yours here as well, so I have an instant NPC nemesis to throw at you.
“Sir” Razo Lionsbane, leader of the Silver Stags Mercenary Group and Sumana’s surrogate father.
Lyra Silversmith, merchant daughter to a smith in Sandpoint and Sumana’s best friend.
Lux Blueblade, city guardsman and one of Sumana’s ex-lovers who didn’t realize “just tonight” meant “just tonight.”
Step 5: Describe three memories, mannerisms, or quirks that your character has. They don't have to be
elaborate, but they should provide some context and flavor.
She’s dense and “unlady-like”. She’s unafraid to drink her friends under the table and sometimes takes her a moment or half a conversation to realize that now is not the best time to discuss certain topics.
She’s afraid of commitment. The scars of losing her family and clan when she was only ten have her seeing the fleetingness of things. Afraid to get too close to someone, she can be free giving at times with things like love.
She’s untrusting of magic users. Her clan had an old sorcerers that scared her as a child, often giving her nightmares. Once she joined the Silver Stags, the magic users employed there always seemed to have an alternate agenda that took priority over their fellow Stags.

Gotta neat idea for an unchained barbarian I wanna see if i can flesh out.

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 3) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 6) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 5) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 5) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 6) + 6 = 17
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 = 12

oh wow, yeah. Definetly keeping these numbers.

Allow me to introduce, Caladra Swordborn. Fighter/barbarian orphan of an unknown village within the Fangwood.

Other Gear Scale Mail, Great Sword, Fighter's Kit (backpack, a bedroll, a belt pouch, a flint and steel, an iron pot, a mess kit, rope, soap, torches (10), trail rations (5 days), and a waterskin.)

backstory:
Two men stand beside each other. One grizzled with a weather beaten face and salt and pepper hair, while the other was young and still in his prime, fresh stories of previous battles marking his face. Both wear icons of valor upon their garb yet the elder had left the battlefield for the temple of Iomedae. Between them a young girl in her mid teens, fire red hair and eyes to the ground. “They found her in the woods. Alone, malnourished, borderline feral. We have an idea what happened to her though, the scar on the right side of her face and neck are akin to other survivors of a Darkblight attack. We at the temple had done our best to teach her the way of Iomedae over the years, but she is prone to violent outbursts. The other day she broke a boy’s arm with a stick for teasing her. She says she can’t remember but there are witnesses that say otherwise. I’m afraid we can only do so much and hope that you can help guide her towards a more productive goal. Show her how to fight for good and protect others.”
“Yes high priest, it will be my honor. We’ve had others like her and have helped them all the same. She’s in good hands.”

Her backstory's a bit unconventional for me. It breaks down to she's a guard soldier type person stationed at Phaendar. When they're forced to run she starts to revert back to her old ways and become more of a barbarian and less of a fighter. But the teachings of Iomedae have been instilled in her and she still tries to do good for the people.

The one catch is that Knowledge (engineering) is a background skill in this system. Knowledge (engineering) is a lot more important in Iron Gods and should probably remain an adventuring skill for this campaign.

By that logic, Bard's shouldn't get background skills in perform. From the way the DM has spoken, it would still need to make sense in their backgrounds since he's against minmaxing. I personally think it's okay, but then again I'm not the DM.
I've seen this pretty often, actually. Also with Handle Animal for classes with Mounts or Companions. It makes a lot of sense.

Yeah, I couldn't remember all the background skills but I knew perform was one. When I saw handle animal was another i was pretty excited for Galvin. I think i'll have him use his background skills in Craft (leather) and handle animal, then move the skill i originally had in handle animal to survival. I"ll go update his profile now too.

edit: I also just noticed the point buy was wrong so i muddled things around and also made him less charasmatically challenged.
