SO, After a good touch of criticism both here and on reddit, I have gone ahead and redone my original vision of the class. Being a studied class of research and guns I've gone back to my roots of what was actually an Investigator Gunslinger hybrid class. Though I know Tri-Hybrids shouldn't be a thing I find it too thematically fitting for the class.

What the class is really lacking at is #3. I don't really see a signature class feature. The Inventions, are nice in themself but not really enough to carry the class

Yeah if I were to have a primary issue with the class It would be this. I went in with the idea of their inherent ability to be almost 3 classes at once being the "Unique" class feature. The main problem I had was that almost everything to do in a medieval setting has already been done. At least as far as pathfinder mechanics are concerned. I believe though that I could campaign that the raw AMOUNT of character shaping choices is the classes feature though.

This...this looks really good! Nothign to OP, all well written, and I think it would be fun to play this engineer. Well done. Mind if I download the Docs as source material for when I put an engineer in my homebrew game?

I would adore that. Tell me how it goes if you do end up running one. I'm having a player playtest one out in carrion crown. Very excited.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

So I've been an active player, GM, and overall lover of pathfinder for a while now. Decided to put on my big boy pants and make a whole hybrid class. I'm a bit unsure on a few things but I figure after spending the better part of a week on the class its time to have others to review it and tell me how trash it is.

The Engineer

Im sure some things are out of tune (The capstones are definitely spicy but hey level 20 is kinda where u get to be god anyways). But lemme know what you guys think!

(Be gentle I am in fact very bad at this whole Homebrew thing)

Okay, so this creation stems from a player of my party wanting a bloodline for her Dhampir Bloodrager, I know technically Dhampirs blood never lasts and their children are essentially just human with no special abilities but I always found that a bit wack. Then there was the immediate answer of the Undead Bloodline, but that one well..... is baaaad.

So, to get a bloodline that fit well, I created my own custom one that is available to any Dhampir, (or anyone else really if your GM is cool about it). We tested this out thoroughly in our own campaign and had a lot of fun with it. (Actually had a forum post of the early 1.0 beta version that needed wild balancing to make usable)

I've now started running Way of The Wicked so now we're gonna be playing the bad guys and a new player of ours is trying this bad boy out.

So, without any more rambling, BloodSucker Bloodline.

Minor quibble: doesn't bother me but you might provide a "strong language" warning for other forumites.

Now to content: seems workable, I'd add weapon finesse to the feat/rule modifications instead of TWF, but that's me.

Grappling causing flat footedness is a boost to sneak attackers, not sure that is intentional.

Are you just wanting feedback on what you have, or are you also wanting suggestions along the same lines?

Feedback, and suggestions are great.

I like the idea of not having to roll to maintain a grapple since the grapplee already gets a roll to escape. That's always bothered me. Curious how the "use pin roll as CMD" part plays out mathematically; might have to do some tests.

Edit: Meant to ask: If you fail a pin roll, does the grapplee escape, or are they still grappled?

They are still grappled until they manage to roll an escape.

Hey everybody! Just got back into pathfinder and figured I'd drop off my list of House rules my table runs. Wanted to see some peoples thoughts on it? Now GM'd too many campaigns and I'm always looking for new tips on how to make sessions more fun.

Heres the Link: Tater Tot's The GM's HouseRules.

Hey all, this ones real easy, in a homebrew campaign of mine, three;s an Elven woods area, and I really wanted another race to be there,I wanted it to be something fairy like without it being actually manic pixie tiny sized ,monstrous race, so after a bit of writing and taking a bit from my love of Guild Wars 2's Sylari race, I came up with these stinkers
Sprites Race.

I started with using the race builder to make the basics than I added in my own things based on flavor, keep in mind that this is a race in a decently powerful campaign of mine, the party is pretty strong/ a dash of the OP (maybe), so it may seem strong to your taste, but feel free to shamelessly steal/ alter to your own needs. Though, I'd love if someone could figure out a realistic RP cost for this race, xuz Im stumped as to what they'd be.

Thanks all, hope I get some feedback

Heeeeeey, firefox the incompitent GM back at it again with the homebrew campaign.

This one's simple, Party has gotten themselves invited to the royal Palace, Their goal is to impress the King and his court. The whole place is holding a feast/ funeral, and I need help coming up with things to happen in the palace as a chance to improve their relation with the Nobility. I was thinking of trials, games, that sort of thing. Like tests of Strength, Archery demonstrations, Maybe a tourney of chess. Or mayhaps an actual full on tournament of arms. Trying to have this whole endeavor be very little actual combat and a lot more heavy RP/ Skill checks.

Suggestions for possible games, events, or happenings are appreciated!

Thanks!

Without going into much details, im the GM of a self written campaign and I have an NPC who is for all purposes a Vampire White Dragon, who strolls about usually using magic to change her form to human. This isn't about balancing, whether a vampire could infect a dragon, I just need a name.
Help me name her, Female dragon, Chromatic white, Vampire. Plans on taking over a country, is very, very evil. Has a regal and charming attitude.
Also need something intimidating in a sense, like, this is the name to a milenia old power set on destroying the world for destructions sake itself.
Feel free to take names from other media.

Thanks for your help!

Really simple, in a campaign setting where they're are (not prominently, it's a home made campaign) Vampires, and where they're are vampires they're /should/ be allowed Dhampirs. But as when one of my party members wanted to roll a Dhampir Bloodrager, there was no Dhampir Bloodline, I mean for gods sake Kitsune have a Bloodline but not Dhampir??

So, I did what any respectable homebrew-loving GM would do, Made one!

Sanguine Bloodline

I know It's most likely wildly either trash or overpowered, but that's the beauty of homebrew, endless experimentation. Used Undead Bloodline as the base template, then basically rewrote from there. Thoughts, Comments, Feedback?

Thanks for all the advice friends! Player decided to go with Tiefling instead with Maw Or Claw (Picked Claws), and the demon dancer archetype. But these all still help tons!

Thanks oodles!

Now, I had carefully avoided picking any suggestion of wanting material components. And yet, Wizard made the list, and Sorcerer didn't!

OH SNAP. Thanks for spotting the Typo! Sorcerer was meant for that list as well. Thanks!

This seems more like a personality quiz rather than a tool that lets you figure out what class you want to play.

Well, Yes. I prefaced with saying its a sort of personality quiz. :D

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen. Newbie GM here all about to start a free roam sandbox campaign, Decided as a cool idea I'd make a little personality quiz of sorts. Basically, it gives you a generic class type and a list of classes that fit said type to choose from, it's a great tool especially if your using all the expanded books on classes (There's like 30 now and it's daunting for newer players). So, BOOM. Class Sorter is born!!!

Feel free to give feedback about quiz either here or on the site.

The window is super small sop you may have to zoom in your webpage, sorry about that There's nothing I can do to fix, But I'd really appreciate to know what more experienced PF members think, THANKS!!

Hello, PF Forums, I'm looking for any cool/interesting ideas anyone has for an archetype for Pathfinder. I'm a recently new member myself, and I just plain love pathfinder and making stuff for it. No idea is too stupid, but I can't guarantee balance :D.

You might consider the Expert Sniper and Master Sniper feats as free feats.

Proficiencies could be: All simple weapons, plus all martial and exotic ranged weapons. Proficient only with light armor. This replaces Finesse Training.

It wouldn't hurt too much to let the player pick up Point-Blank Shot and Precise Shot on their own.

The snipe sneak attack seems somewhat wonky, perhaps in the way it's worded.

Although those do look very tasty, I like the flavor of a sniper being a "One shot one kill" Class, or well, in PF: "One turbo full round action shot, then hide again and hope that killed them" class.,

As for Ambush, Mayhaps I need to work on the wording, my idea is that they get their sneak attacks on ranged attacks against people who don't actively think about to be shot in the face, so either when they pop one from a bush in stealth (The ideal situation), or the less flavor-tastic but more practical approach (Same as how normal rogues get "Sneak" attack while in broad daylight while flanking), which would be that they get their bonus damage on anyone who hasn't yet been damaged by them, so RP-wise they haven't thought to guard against them, yet.

hiiamtom wrote:
I'm not sure how you are going to consistantly get sneak attack damage with this.

Which is why I changed how sneak attack works, instead its either a: someone who didnt notice you yet, or B: someone who you haven't damaged yet, that way your tactics as a sniper are: Sneaky sneak: start using full draw and other feats and abilities to pick off the enemy.

Welcome to the forums and to Pathfinder! I'm happy to see a new player feeling ambitious enough to create content for this game. I want to warn you that my critiques can be harsh. However, I do not mean to discourage you. After all, I became an alternate for RPG Superstar when I never played a game of Pathfinder!

1) BAB and HD are linked together. This is "hardcoded" into the game. Any creature type or class with a full BAB has a d10, a 3/4 BAB has d8, and a 1/2 BAB has a d6. There's a lot of good (though complicated) game design reasons why the game works like this.

2) Because of the above point, you have to use other methods to make a class more "squishy." This usually involves armor proficiencies and stat dependencies. Ranged characters are already typically squishy simply because they rely on maxing two ability scores for fighting, have a high Dex that incentivizes wearing light armor,

3) Getting proficiency in all two-handed ranged weapons feels too broad. Technically, there's no such thing as a "two-handed ranged weapon" and many ranged weapons that require two hands to wield can also be wielded one-handed with a penalty. It might be better to list specific types of weapons.

4) This sniping class does not have any ability that uses the sniping rules.

5) Giving them a Stealth bonus makes sense but adding Wisdom modifier to it is way too much.

6) Signature Weapon Mod is my favorite part of the class. However, many of the abilities are way too powerful (like the +2 damage) or unnecessary (like armor piercing because there's already an ability that boosts your attack rolls). It's also very vague how a sniper assigns his "signature weapon."

7) What's the Ambush skill?

8) Why do Sniper Bonus Feats require feats that involve only bows and crossbows? Especially since you gave them proficiency in tons of ranged weapons and the name of some abilities imply you wanted this class to work with firearms.

9) The class gets an unusual amount of defensive abilities, like evasion at 2nd level...

THANK YOU SO MUCH, srsly this was a huge help in taking a step back and re-evaluating the class, and teaching me about more in-depth PF rules (Never even knew about sniping rules)

I Made this into an archetype for UC Rogue, if youd like you can have a better look, now i think all I need is balancing and fine-tuning! Much love, -Trev

Okay everyone who's opinions pointed out some crucial flaws, I decided after I slept on it to change the idea to a re-worked more in depth archetype for Unchaine Rogues, (Yes, archetypes are compatible with Uncahined as long as they do not replace any talent or ability not on the list of unchained talents, and if your wondering why I picked Unchained is because chained rogues are the least-effective class in all of PF, like me and my friends have long since ruled that Chained rogue doesn't exist, Unchained is the only way to go)

Anyways sheet has been updated, and anyone who views has commenting privileges! Looking for major feedback on balancing now and would love to hear feedback. I'm really happy in how this is turning out!

I think my main issue is you haven't really made the class a sniper.

All you've done is make archery even better than it already was, and make full attacks with bows better than they already were.

Many of the weapon enhancements are too strong IMO.

Change the HD to d10 and make the class full BAB.

Give the class a special ability that allows the Sniper to combine all attacks granted by BAB to pool the damage into a single attack as a full round action. In this way you effectively still have a full attack action (though without Manyshot or Rapid Shot) and get the full damage from each arrow, but it would be only a single arrow.

I'm not sure exactly how it should be written, but the theme of being a sniper should definitely be 1 single deadly attack.

At the same time the ability should still have serious drawbacks like not compatible with Manyshot, Rapid Shot, the whole shot could be defeated by Deflect Arrows, etc.

Very True in hindsight, I feel similar and thought about something like that but then i go back to the thought of "What if they miss?" or "What if the enemy deflects the arrow?" then the entire class gets crapped on by any monk, so maybe, idk, a better system for Long, and I mean LONG range attacks? or like you said a turbo-shot that is a full round action, but give it an undeflectable bonus? or maybe that and a good way to get the class some damn good accuracy?

Early issues:

Hit Dice d6 for hit points is really low for a class that does not reshapes the universe with magic. Also, aside of a few exceptions (Barbarian, Draconic Disciple, etc), HD used is tied to BAB - d6 being linked to low BAB (1/2 BAB per level). With medium BAB d8 is expected.

Base Attack Bonus 2/3rd isn't a progression used in Pathfinder. Medium BAB progression is 3/4th (which also happens to be the one you included in the table).

Fixed BAB listing, my bad always thought that was 2/3, changed to 3/4, as for the Hit Dice I'm well aware of the usual assignments, but i thought it'd be fun to seek out a sort of "Glass cannon" Class, as in sneaking into the shadows and dunking on kids with archery, but if caught in melee is in serious trouble, so I thought hey, maybe a squishy character? although maybe he's too under-powered to justify a d6 nerf? As always open to criticism and ideas.

Hi there! I'm generally new to pathfinder (Have been playing for about 6 months) But I fell in love with the game and have a cool idea for a homebrew class, still in edit, and heavily inspired by the Marksman D&D 3.5 class, but would love to hear some feedback from more experienced GM's and min-maxers alike! Thanks all!
