Ive been a GM for well, years and made the transition from 3.5 to Pathfinder with only a few House rules still in place. I regularly survey my groups and have high enjoyment rate and the players like the way I set things up. They have to think, work for their loot and roleplay though a lot of dangerously overpowering situations. I have recently had a player join the group and it has not gone well. His play style is different which is fine but instead of trying to mesh with the group the player is fighting against it. What to do?
The player recently lead a rather skewed post regarding what I am doing and why... in which I was lambasted. I have run campaigns with characters that range +- five levels and had no problems but it now seems that everything needs to be vanilla the same and equitable. Is this weird?
To me a fighter is good at what they do; a caster is different and good at what they do but they are not the same. faced with the same problem they are likely to deal with the situation differently. Thus players can have different strengths and still enjoy playing no?
Some of my players are richer but physically weak others might be stat strong but magic poor, in that regard I try to find some balance (but not equity) and when the players work together (roleplayed) they share to create a natural instead of a plastic (insert equitable clone character here) balance.
Please help me out here.
If I'm a bad GM then I have been for years developed a group of players that like it and or lie but still show up for years.
Should I simply suggest that the player that doesn't just not come? or change everything for the one (to the likely disdain of the others.. unless they are lying)?
Help.

Can I purchase a Guard dog at first level? And if so how is it trained ie will it Defend, Attack, Heal or would my character have to succeed in a DC 25 check to train each of these abilities... Or pay someone to train the dog for me? I will be playing a Sorcerer with weak physical stats having the dog seemed to make sense to my characters 'feel' but I would like to know it of would be legal? I don't need a riding dog although I could see my character purchasing one later to carry gear for him.

My Players wanted to know why we should bother to report when playing PFS. (We are still playing an AP so we have yet to delve down this road). I asked a similar question earlier...
excerpt below:
Quote:

Oh, BTW what factions "won" season 0 and 1? just curious

We don't know, they eliminated that part of PFS before the results were released.

Quote:

is there a way to track how well your faction is doing at all?

As far as all are concerned, this is no longer tracked.

Quote:

Is there a way to rate your prestige in the faction vs others? (for the I'm the wo/man (or not) kind of player). Are there faction reports (How strong the nation is now after all these insights and items have been brought into their ownership or do they feel the nation is weakened from a lack of effort to bolster them from faction PF's?)that perhaps aligned venture captains get and can talk about (some sort of know check)?

Not that we're aware on any of these fronts. Faction competition was eliminated before season 1 even started, so it's a non-issue.

So all this being said. Why should anyone bother reporting? What is the point of Prestige, Factions or your reports at all? I remember reading a post from MR Frost

Reporting is a cascading effect. We need to know who's playing so that we know how many people we're hitting each month with our product so that we can track growth so that we can spend more money on the Society. The more people that play, the bigger budget we give to the Society (and potential things like player and GM rewards). We're talking about possibly simplifying the things you need to input on paizo.com, but we still need people to report their sessions.

Your question was a really good one, though, and sent me down a line of thinking that may radically (and awesomely!) change the way we calculate prestige and WHY we calculate it..

Is there a reason other than to help Paizo track it's success.. 4 star members can purchase special modules early... anything else? Do my players benefit somehow?

I am getting together with my players on Wed and was hoping to give a better answer to them than "uhhh well I think it was supposed to do this that and the other thing, but that got nerfed. Having never run anything in organized play though I don't know."

Thanks all

OK I am planning on getting a group of peeps together to start playing PFS and understand there is a ongoing backstory with the Pathfinders, Shadow Lodge, Aspis Consortium and some other group(s) as well? Is there a recent Historical synopsis that I as the GM or 'Goober the first level elven bard' would know or be introduced to when he shows interest in the society.
Secondly instead of simply porting the PC's into a mission and saying hey your pathfinders this is what you do. Is there a common (or some uncommon ones) way PC's get inaugurated, accepted, apply to be accepted into the society in the first place.. Say 'your guard captain pulls you aside one day and tells you to meet with Big goober who then informs you that you have been selected to become a PF by the Gov of Cheliax. After briefly meeting with Venture Captain ---- in wherever your off o adventure...'

Oh and no I have not yet purchased a module to date so that may answer all questions or not. I did see one of the early 0 modules one of my friends had on his computer but that is all (other than the free download stuff Piazo provides (thanks)).

Ok I have Dm'd in this manner for years. Lately I have laid the dice of doom down and sat back to play a PC. The present GM has challenged everything I thought I knew about time and casting.
If I am correct a round takes six seconds (it does not matter how many people involved it takes six seconds). Not 6seconds for player1+ 6seconds for player 2 ext... Therefore in a single round of combat; initiative already having been completed all the actions occur within a six second time frame. Correct? I think so.
Sooo part two in the past I have run things in this manner. If my "barbarian" hits the GM controlled caster for 18 dmg, the caster (after stepping back five feet and casting defensively) must make a Concentration check of 10+18(damage dealt)+spell level to succeed in casting. Not so according the the new GM since the injury did not occur at the moment the spell was cast (during the standard action) instead the caster simply must make it's defensive casting roll as per normal despite the injury sustained during the round of combat.

Here is the rule regarding injury on the Pathfinder OGC. After reading it I believe that the GM is technically correct. Meaning unless my Barbarian stands beside the caster at the end of his turn with a readied action each round and ten foot reach (or step up) he will rarely disrupt the caster. How are things run in your campaigns?

PF OGC wrote:

Injury

If you take damage while trying to cast a spell, you must make a concentration check with a DC equal to 10 + the damage taken + the level of the spell you're casting. If you fail the check, you lose the spell without effect. The interrupting event strikes during spellcasting if it comes between the time you started and the time you complete a spell (for a spell with a casting time of 1 full round or more) or if it comes in response to your casting the spell (such as an attack of opportunity provoked by the spell or a contingent attack, such as a readied action).

If you are taking continuous damage, such as from an acid arrow or by standing in a lake of lava, half the damage is considered to take place while you are casting a spell. You must make a concentration check with a DC equal to 10 + 1/2 the damage that the continuous source last dealt + the level of the spell you're casting. If the last damage dealt was the last damage that the effect could deal, then the damage is over and does not distract you.

Level 10 str 16 dex 15 wiz 20
Bab 7/2 +3 str= 10/5 or 9/4 ranged
Bane +2to hit +2d6 Dmg
Justice +3 to hit
Destruction +4 Dmg
Teamwork:
Outflank +4 to hit when flanking
Precise +1d6 damage

(10/5= 15/10)
+1 Cold (1d4) Gr Axe. d12+3+d4+(2d6)+(4)+(1d6)= 12to41x2attacks =24to82

(9/4-rapidshot= 7/7/4+2+3= 12/12/9)
Longbow(have rapid shot) d8+(2d6)+(4)+(1d6)=8to30x3attacks =24to90

Add just Divine Power +4 to hit and Dmg +1 attack per round

(15/10= 19/19/14)
12to41+4= 16to45x3attacks =48to135

(12/12/9= 16/16/16/13)
8to30+4= 12to34x4attacks =48to136

Heroism +2 to hit (10x10min)
Weapon of awe +2 damage

Oh and I think it odd that bane and 'bane weapon' act quite differently... just a thought. oddly bane isn't even used to create a bane weapon.

I wasn't sure if taking the spell was worthwhile here my Inquisitor gets a plus 2 to his attack rolls. If I take and apply Divine favor +4 at level ten? That's a plus 6 to attack (total) making my inquisitor have an attack bonus of 15 not bad.

Ok I constructed this for a player that wanted to play a lifespark golem/sorcerer.. I was hoping to get feedback so I might tweak it to create the flavour we were looking for. He wanted it to be an artifice style sorcerer... create critters to follow him about and do his bidding, animate objects and so forth.

Construct Bloodline
Perhaps after being injured by a sentient sword or some artificer’s error sorcerers with this bloodline have a strange connection to animated objects and constructs.

Class Skill: Craft Construct

Bonus Spells: Animate Rope (3rd), Make Whole (5th), Shrink Item (7th), Geas, Lesser (9th), Fabricate (11th), Antimagic Field (13th), Statue (15th), Iron Body (17th), Time Stop(19th)

Bonus Feats: Master Craftsman , Craft Wand, Magical Aptitude, Toughness, Improved Initiative, Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot, Great Fortitude

Bloodline Arcana: Constructs are considered humanoid vs your mind affecting effects (charms, compulsions, phantasms, patterns and morale effects)

Bloodline Powers:
Artificers Touch (Sp) Starting at first level you can heal or harm constructs and objects through you touch dealing 1d6+1/2 your sorcerer level damage. You can use this ability 3+your Cha bonus per day.
Golem Skin (Su) At 3rd Level you gain an odd sheen to your skin it grows harder and very difficult to pierce you gain DR 2 adamantine. This bonus increases to DR 10 adamantine at 9th level
Animate Servant (Sp) At 9th Level your touch can animate objects as a standard action and performs as the spell of the same name. You may use this ability once at 9th level and twice at 12 and another every for levels thereafter.
Magical Immunity (Su) At 15th Level you become immune to any spell or spell like ability that allows for spell resistance. However, you still must roll to disbelieve illusions.
Construct Body (Ex) At 20th Level, Your body succumbs to it’s heritage and you take on construct traits. You gain immunity from critical hits, and electricity damage heals your form equal to 1/3 of the damage you would have taken. Magical Fire and Cold damage slows you for 2d6rnd (no save)

Ok so here is the scoop one of my Player's characters is a summoner and wants to summon earth elementals get them to earth swim ahead and either drop on foes (when in caves)thus crushing them and lets face it they weigh 48 000 lbs, it will kill anything squishy; or envelope them from below. He can summon a huge critter too so basically he can kill/pin pretty much any foe in any dungeon and pin down (+29 to grapple) almost anything. Pretty brutal against casters (as well as anything else), it comes from below grapples and deals 2d10+9 for it's one attack while the foe is in this condition pretty much ruling out casting spells due to the concentration needed to do so.

Is this right? Is there any defense to these attacks?

I have a PC that wants to play an artificer..Cool I think this should be interesting different...but what can he make... Hmmmmm starts to get limited. a big brute golem, sure. A homunculus ok and the iron snake. Hmm Ok he can animate all nature of coat hangers and the like for a short period of time, or longer with permanency.. but a system to make his own creative constructs would be nice. This is what I was thinking. Base cost should be aprox 2000gp about the same as a homunculus for a small creature and then somehow add costs in for abilities, size, extra apendages like the eidelon for the summoner... What do you think? has anyone done this?

Scarab Sages

Is there a third party book or like product that gives samples of constructs other than golems, the iron snake, and the homunculus? It seems as if there are few options for those with the create craft construct feat.. Also golems are expensive. Or perhaps there is a guide to making your own?

Ok I have a pc that asked to play an awakened flesh golem /sorcerer I actually have no issue with this as long as balance is retained which it is. However, the PC has chosen to take Shocking Grasp as one of it's spells and was hoping to (not sorry for the double entendre)touch himself releasing the spell thus healing himself. Furthermore, since Mend does not work on constructs what low level spell will in effect heal them other than pumping them full of electricity?

Ok so i have been playing with the same group for years now and as fun as the game is it has become a bit of a chess match between me (GM) and the players when combat is involved. The players do metta game quite a bit which has been discussed but seems to be a constant although not over distracting issue. However, the speed of gameplay has become painful as on each players turn they seem to go through the many options that lay before them prior to making a choice and thus each players turn takes minutes to complete. I have thought of instigating a clock rule but??? I don't know. I want The players to have fun and honestly the time issue is probably taking away from the fun as the players often have to wait ten minutes or more before it is their turn to play there next six second action... suggestions

I create my own campaigns... is there a site I can post them so others can use them too? I spend a lot of time on these things and think they are pretty good. My players like them. It seems a shame to just have them sit on my computer when their done. Some are short 2-3 3-4 hr sessions and some are reasonably lengthy. I'm not looking to sell them just make them available. I suppose I might have to edit them for copyrights? ie use of magnimar and other PF owned resources.

Ok I am running a campaign with a party consisting of a cleric and a fighter alongside a summoner with a large doglike eidelon. The fighter (player)in the group has been killed off a plenty while the eidelon seems to kill things at will and is easily the most powerful weapon in the group. It's to hot is a bit lower than the fighter but it gets three attacks and deals cold damage and is cold and fire resistant... it's crazy tough to hit with the buffs the summoner gives it AC 32 at level 9 is this an overpowered class or am i missing something here

Scarab Sages

I have a party that wants to do some "real world conversions to discover how they would stand up in the world of pathfinder. This is relatively simple for some stats such as intelligence and Strength. Heck even Dex can be quantified but I am having difficulty with Wisdom Charisma and especially Constitution. Any thoughts on ways i can give an attribute that is fair for a real persons Con stat.. if you have thoughts on Wis and Charisma shoot I would like to hear that too.

Can Faceless Stalkers breed with humanoid races?
I understand that a Doppelganger breeding with another race will simply create another doppelganger but what about the Ugothol (faceless stalker)? or any other shape changer?

Scarab Sages

OK I am super curious here. I am creating a campaign with lots of Lamashtu related events. During construction I considered using Doppelgangers as a device to confuse PC's However, if the goddess wanted more "monstrous creations" would they not be the perfect tool? What I want to know is when they share the bed of a human or other creature can they produce offspring and would the offspring therefore be a half-doppel? This seems consistent with dragon human relations and other related crossbreeding taints (see sorcerer for examples?)

As far as the Doppelgangers are concerned the Bestiary notes

"They are particularly fond of invading human societies in order to indulge in their desires, some enjoy the complex dance of politics while others seek constant change in the race and gender of both themselves and their romantic companions.... some particularly malicious doppelgangers enjoy disrupting relationships by posing as unfaithful lovers."

It might be a nasty can of worms to open but for a Lamashtu heavy campaign it might be rather interesting.
