Afternoon all,
After much discussion and decision making, my group and I have decided to run the Jade Regent AP. Due to our group being spread out over the country, the only feasible way we're really going to play is via the internet. Now, I would prefer a video conference kind of service (ie skype, roll20, etc) but as this is my first time running a game - and indeed being involved in an online chronicle, I'm not entirely sure what the best option is going to be. We are on a limited budget and can't really afford to be paying out for any kind of premium services. It's going to have to be cheap, easy to use and set up. does anyone have any suggestions?

Also, I''m starting to have a good read through the books and I've noticed that the first adventure pretty much drops you straight off into the swamp. is there any kind of prelude or introduction scene available (a-la the Goblin attack in ROTRL) that can help set the scene for the party leaving Sandpoint?

Cheers folks,
Calju16

Hey all, hope the Holiday season is treating you all well!

As some of you may have noticed in the Rise of the Runelords section, I've recently started running the adventure path and (I would like to think) I've had some success in the first few sessions so far. I am still a rookie DM though, and I feel that this is starting to show with regards to the seasoned player in the group.

I was wondering though, I'm looking at expanding my horizons of the Pathfinder setting, as I know very little about it. I currently own the core rulebook and pdf's of Bestiary 1 and the RotR Adventure path (though I intend to order the hard copies off amazon before the group gets back together). Can anyone recommend something for me to look at to maybe bring a little more flavour into the game, or even a few more options to the players?

Cheers folks,
Calju.

My group at the minute (sadly, I don't have the character names on my at the moment):

Half Orc Barbarian - crazy combat stats, so far the only character to have been successfully Bull-rushed by a goblin.

Human Universalist Wizard - almost unbelievably lazy, if he can use a spell to do something for him (e.g. Mage Hand to cut up his steak) he will. Cannot hit a target with a spell to save his life.

Elven Paladin - the Paragon of goody do-gooders everywhere! Will not stoop to the temptation of drink or gambling, always put others before himself and has a mild aversion to riding.

Human Rogue - not yet entered into the game due to real life commitments

Dennis the Dwarven Ranger - self-titled sex pest. Tailored himself a pair of "assless chaps" and repeatedly hits on anything with a pulse. Very good shot with a crossbow. Does not get on with the group's Paladin.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Well, the first sesion's done and dusted, thanks for all your help folks! I'll be posting up a campaign log once I 've had the chance to get everything typed up!

Ahh, okies, thanks for that!

So, how have you all started the game / got the PC's to the festival? I'm considerong a couple of options, but I want to do my best to stay away from the whole "You all meet in an Inn. Suddenly, PLOT!" intro as I have a few players who've never been involved in the hobby before!

Thanks for the quick reply folks! I'll be honest, the greased pig may have been inspired by the Greased-Up Deaf Guy from Family Guy. ^.^

Superball, what do you mean by the First Knight? I don't think I've ever heard of that one.

Hey all, hows it going?
I've been reading through the Rise of the Runelords adventure path and I've finally got a gaming group together and I'll be running the first session this week. I have a few questions about starting the campaign and with the Swallowtail festival in particular.

I was thinking about spending the first session exploring the festival itself, including some mini-games and events for the PC's to take part in and possibly introducing the goblin attack towards the end of the session.

Now, I've had some ideas as to some basic games to hold, and I was wondering if I'd be able to get some feedback and maybe some suggestions as to how they'd work in the system.

1.) Chasing the greased pig. (DC 20 check to grapple the pig. First to hold it for three consecutive rounds wins. Pig will move 10' in a random direction each round (decided by a warhammer scatter dice), unless grappled where by it will try and break free.)

2.) Feats of strength (Arm wrestelling, strongman contest, etc.) A simple strength based exercise, highest attack roll winds.

3.) Archery contest - the classic. Points are scored by hitting a simple (DC 10) target. For every 5 points the PC's get over the DC, they score more points. Every shooter gets 5 shots, highest score wins.

Does anyone else have any suggestions? How did you run this part of the campaign in your games?
