Thanks guys~ I NEVER would have figured this out without your help!
I've almost all the pieces necessary to complete my first character sheet. Feels good.

Question, The First
I am trying to determine my character's Hit Points.

Quote:
A character or creature gains maximum hit points at 1st level or if its first Hit Die roll is for a character class level.

Ok, so I'm a level one Gnome Monk therefore my HP initially is d8 (or is it simply the value "8")?

Also, what is meant by "or if its first Hit Die roll is for a character class level".?
Question, The Second
Let's say that through a combination of luck and hard work I advance to the next level. How do I then calculate my HP? The following explanation defies my interpretive abilities~
Quote:
To determine a character or creature's hit points for levels beyond 1st, roll the dice indicated by its Hit Dice. Creatures whose first Hit Die comes from an NPC class or from his race roll their first Hit Die normally.

Ok, so the first step is "roll the dice indicated by its Hit Dice". What is my Hit Dice? And what does "Creatures whose firs Hit Die comes from an NPC class or from his race roll their first Hit Die normally." mean?

Thanks,
B.Catch3r

Much Thanks!

I'm rolling my first Pathfinder character ~ a Gnome Monk.
His INT ability score is 14 which grants him an ability modifier of 2.
Am I correct to presume that I can achieve one rank in each of 16 different skills?
Also, since he's small his hit dice would be a d4 instead of a d8 ~right?

Thanks in advance,

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Pathfinder is my first RPG. Believe it or not I picked up the core rule book yesterday after work and am determined to breathe life into a few character ideas. However, I have no delusions that I'll ever play this game with others. For one, I live in a rural area inundated with your typical, garden variety NPCs. So, I'm going solo. Noob Question: Is this a legitimate and satisfying path through Golarion or will it end in despair?

It's not hearsay (or heresy) - as of Q3 2010, it was tied for D&D.

But not at end of year.
