While I like complex combat scenarios - especially when the action economy involves the environment as well - I believe they only truly work at higher levels. At lower levels, I believe faster, more straight forward combats would work better, as most characters wouldn’t be one trick ponies. I think your approach would work great for other games (mid to high level, or something overpowered like gestalt or mythic). Right now, we don’t have enough investment in the characters or the story and, like I said, the first levels are way too limiting for all of us to enjoy thoughtful combat scenes. If you’re open to adapt certain things or could disclose the near future plans, I’m sure we could make it work well (if it’s not the case, I fully understand and support you, wish everybody the best and would take my leave).

Zeebu insists in his target, but this time he uses the best of his grit to try to make his attack more dangerous.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 1 = 13 Using 1 grit to make it against touch.
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

This time is different than the last; his shot is back to missing as per usual.

I should go back to try using Grit to go against his touch :P

Hot damn I just rolled two 20s in a character that barely does any damage. Lol!

Just a kind reminder that while Zeebu prefers shooting with his crossbow, he does have two 10-foot tentacles, if anyone tries to approach him.

Zeebu curses a little when he misses the shot, and pulls the lever for a new attempt. The tentacles underneath him seem to lift the arms a tiny bit as to help aim.

Much more comfortable swimming than onboard a moving vessel, the guide and engineer crossed his arms and waited silently and patiently. As the ship finally approached its target, he pulled his crossbow and got ready. We need to equip some siege weaponry at these vessels. Something to consider once we get some weeks to breath., he thought to himself, looking around.

Zeebu waits for the prince to finish his speech, silently. When he finishes, finally, the young bolt ace raises his glass to drink.

Always, Your Highness. The cecaelia from the depths are with you, in what for sure will be a long and fruitful alliance! - he says, making sure to try to establish an alliance-like feeling from the beginning.

Gillmen and cecaelia not always looked eye-to-eye, but the current wars forged a new reality in the seas. The proud nobleborn wanted to straighten even more the links, hopeful that someday favors would be returned.

On one of the dark corners of the bar, another creature could be seen. Looking perfectly like a young almost elvish-looking humanoid on his upper part, he didn't seem at all uncomfortable at that place - at least, not from the weirdness standpoint.

Being a cecaelia - a hybrid of human and octopus - Zeebu's body ended in several different tentacles, each moving as of it had its own mind. He wasn't muscular at all - actually, quite lean - but the tentacles pushed his height way beyond six feet.

Yet, he wasn't really attractive or intimidating. Rather, he gave an overall feeling of being someone shy and reserved. Dressed as some sort of sea ranger, he loomed as he had wisdom beyond his age, and blinked slowly as if constantly concentrating.

Different than his colleagues, he chose to keep his silence for now. His eyes were circling curiously around the room, analyzing the group as if constantly fearful for his skin, yet somewhat behaving in a proudful manner as if highly educated.

I adjusted Zeebu to 19. He's still young, but now just slightly older than the Prince. They're practically beer buddies of the same age. "Zeta Zeta Phi Phi" for the win!

Just the feet, just the feet! - Zeebu advances towards the necromancer ready to bite one of his foot off. The teeth of the feral gnasher are sharp even for a goblin.

Zeebu doesn't say any particular threats or anything, like his companions. Instead, the goblin barbarian just kept googling the prisoner, thinking about what was being said... Feed to the badger? But Zeebu hungry too. Fried necromancer might taste like burnt roaches. Hmmm! - and drooling.

As he bites the undead, he tries to keep a quick hold of it to harm; he swings at it a couple more times with his claws, then he lets go of the wight, releasing the grapple, and does a five-foot-step diagonally away from the monster.
