M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

I am still present and ready.

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

Oops, I just realized I'm not actually in range to use Electric Arc.

Instead of zapping the yeth hound, Zarzuket sends three metal darts towards it.

Needle Darts: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
damage (cold iron P): 3d4 ⇒ (1, 1, 3) = 5

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

Will: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23

Zarzuket is unafraid of the yeth hound, which he does not yet realize is a yeth hound.

Religion or Nature: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Scholarly Recollection: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21

He then realizes that the yeth hound is a yeth hound. "It's a yeth hound," he says.

Then he zaps it.

Electric Arc damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
DC 18 basic Reflex

Recall Knowledge*, Scholarly Recollection (reaction), Electric Arc**

In the future you might want to omit the name of the monster when explaining the effect.

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

"Before we go north, I believe there's still a few doors in the southern part of this complex we haven't checked yet. Maybe start with the southern door in the corridor to the south of here? And before that I need a few more minutes to meditate again. Sorry."

Refocus

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

A petitioner instead of an actual fiend? They must have been up to something strange here!” Zarzuket trembles with excitement, but with a few minutes and some deep breaths and prayers, he just barely manages to regain the necessary clarity of mind to cast Scholarly Recollection before investigating further. Refocus

Zarzuket then looks around the room. “OK. Sihedron, circle, room full of old objects, two cultists, petitioner from the Abyss…what were they trying to accomplish here?

Religion: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Scholarly Recollection: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

What was the result of the Recall Knowledge on the larva?

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

"Ooh, a sihedron! This looks even more interesting than the Vloric Spires. But I suppose we should focus on the enemies at the moment. That larva-like creature appears to be..."

Religion or Nature: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
4 less if Arcana or Occultism
Scholarly Recollection: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
4 less if Arcana or Occultism

Then, unless what he remembers about the larva gives him a obvious reason not to, he zaps the larva and the initiate to the south of it with electricity.

Electric Arc damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
DC 18 basic Reflex

Recall Knowledge*, Scholarly Recollection (reaction), Electric Arc**

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

"These Vloric Spires are fascinating! Not especially useful to us, though, since none of us use arcane magic."

"After we've finished healing and resting, I guess we should try the door to the east."

Refocus

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

”There seems to be a lot going on here. We should look over this place thoroughly before we move on.”

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

Zarzuzet sends a jolt of electricity towards the remaining cultist, taking a bit longer than usual because of the distance.

Electric Arc damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
DC 18 basic Reflex

Reach Spell*, Electric Arc**

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

Zarzuket runs to the other workstation and deactivates it.

Stride*, Stride*, Interact*

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

Zarzuket moves into the large room and explains to Madaxa how to disable the workbench.

Recall Knowledge*, Scholarly Recollection (reaction), Stride*, Interact*

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

"This looks a bit ominous. What sort of project could they be up to in here?"

Scholarly Recollection: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12

Zarzuket's remaining actions will depend on what he figures out.

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

”Good job! If my understanding of the layout of this place so far is correct, we have only about half the rooms on this floor left to investigate. After we’ve rested and healed I suppose we should go north, unless someone has a different idea.”

Refocus

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

Zarzuket repositions himself to get a better look at the remaining enemy while moving further away from it. Knowing the monster's weakness, he then shoots three cold iron projectiles at it.

Needle darts: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
damage (cold iron P): 3d4 ⇒ (2, 4, 1) = 7

Stride*, Needle Darts**

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

Zarzuket is alarmed enough by the injuries to Dredd that he taps into his divine font. "Θεραπεύω!" he shouts.

Thassilonian:
Heal!

Heal: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

He then looks at the small creatures, hoping to identify them.

Scholarly Recollection: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

Heal**, Recall Knowledge*, Scholarly Recollection (reaction)

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

”Should we go west next?”

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

”The situation seems urgent enough that I don’t think it’s wise to spend eight hours harvesting the crystals. How about we just take a few minutes to rest and heal and then move on?”

Refocus

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

Zarzuket casts electric arc on both enemies again, followed by guidance on Dredd.

Electric arc damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

Zarzuket tries to figure out what the blue-furred creature is.

Scholarly Recollection: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14

Unless what he learns about the creature gives him an obvious reason not to, he then zaps both enemies with electricity.
Electric Arc damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Recall Knowledge*, Scholarly Recollection (reaction), Electric Arc**

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

”Shall we keep going west?”

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

”Good job, Madaxa. Should we keep going north?”

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

”Well, I guess it makes sense that there would be metal around, what with all the iron rods,” says Zarzuket, feeling foolish. ”Might as well avoid touching the rods anyway, just to be safe, unless someone has a specific idea involving them. Which way should we go now?”

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

Feeling paranoid, Zarzuket casts detect magic, followed by detect metal.

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

"I guess you want to take these tools, Madaxa? After that we might as well go north from this room."

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

Zarzuket moves so he can see into the room, then zaps both cultists.

Stride*, Electric Arc** (Basic Reflex save DC 18)
damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

Can Zarzuket even see the cultists from where he’s standing?

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

Zarzuket searches the chest of drawers as he considers the significance of the mountain sculpture.

Religion: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

”That was great, Madaxa! Which way should we go now?”

Can we just assume that everyone is healed now?

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

Zarzuket meditates while waiting for the others to heal each other.

Refocus

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

“Or move past it? I guess we can’t just go back to it later, then. Let’s take a few minutes to heal and rest, and then maybe Madaxa can try to disable it.”

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

Zarzuket gets out his writing set and takes notes on Ragnulf's words. "Thank you. This is valuable information."

Zarzuket looks at the altar thoughtfully. "How long do we have to stop the apparatus before the ritual is complete? Are we likely to find something elsewhere in this complex that might help us stop the apparatus? Come to think of it, since you're still here and I have my writing set out, would you mind drawing a quick sketch of the Rusthenge complex?"

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

”That’s good. Are you going to return to Stonehome now? People there are worried about you.”

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

”I don’t think Gorum wants you to give up on life like that. He believes that people should strive to overcome and survive challenges, and in the possibility of redemption, right?”

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

Zarzuket tries to remember if there’s a Gorumite teaching he can appeal to to talk Ragnulf out of his death wish.

Religion: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Scholarly Recollection: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

”That won’t be necessary. You were being magically controlled, right? And now you seem to have broken out of it. Killing you would be senseless.”

Zarzuket begins casting stabilize on the other two initiates.

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

"We don't want to literally end him, Dredd! He's clearly mind-controlled. And some of the others might be too, come to think of it."

Feeling guilty about his newfound enthusiasm for blasting people with lightning, Zarzuket casts stabilize on the worst-wounded of the three defeated initiates. He then casts guidance on Madaxa.

Cast a Spell (stabilize)**, Cast a Spell (guidance)*

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

Zarzuket continues to use electric magic, but as his enemies are closer now, he can cast more quickly. Cast Electric Arc**, targeting an Initiate (prioritizing blue > yellow > purple) and Ragnulf, Reflex DC 18
damage: 1d4 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 1 = 7

He uses the spare moment to shout a single Thassilonian word, creating a small barrier of golden energy. Cast Shield*, +1 circumstance bonus to AC

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

Zarzuket takes a few minutes to meditate before moving on. Refocus

"Wow, I wasn't expecting to meet him so early!" Zarzuket considers casting a major spell, but for now he attacks with electricity again; it leaps from the blue cultist in the middle of the hall to Ragnulf himself.

Reach Spell, Electric Arc. Basic Reflex save DC 18.
damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

I assume we're assumed to have healed up before moving on?

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

Zarzuket continues to attack both statues with electricity.

Reach Spell, Electric Arc. Basic Reflex save DC 18.

damage: 1d4 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 1 = 9

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

Zarzuket sees the perfect opportunity to show off his deepening understanding of magic. “αστραπή!” he shouts as he uses primal magic for the first time. Lightning crosses the hall, striking at the two armors.

Thassilonian:
”Lightning!”

Reach Spell, Electric Arc. Basic Reflex save DC 18.

damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

Zarzuket warns Madaxa against touching the strange, glowing door bare-handed.

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

I’m not sure it being non-magical necessarily makes it safe. Aren’t some skymetals toxic? Not to mention the possibility of mechanical traps. But I guess prodding a non-magical door with a long polearm should be reasonably safe.

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

Thanks. The folding ladder should be all for now.

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

"And I guess I should check whether the door is magical. The strange glow could theoretically just be from skymetal." Zarzuket casts detect magic.

Detecting magic is Zarzuket's default exploration activity for now.

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

While in town, Zarzuket picks up a writing set.

"Ominous looking door, isn't it? The writing says 'Skymetal Workshop.'" Zarzuket has a feeling that there's something else he ought to remember about the door...

Religion: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Scholarly Recollection: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27

"Oh! The spiked horseshoe is Xar-Azmak's symbol."

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

Also, did we actually use our antiplagues on the people in the basement? And are they still in Stonehome or are they somewhere else now?

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

Re: free gear, a writing set and a folding ladder seem like good ideas (so long as I’m not the one carrying the folding ladder). Are those considered “within reason”?

M Gnome (Umbral) Cleric 2

OK, I've leveled up. (The spells listed on my profile are what I plan to prepare tomorrow.)
