About YlvahildFrom the frozen halls of the storm giant kings in the north comes a legendary figure, exiled from her people to a prison dimension and determined to create a haven where she can prosper in peace and seclusion. However, her utopian experiment is threatened by the Red Wizards of Thaythilor, who need her help against her former family to recover one of the pieces of the Rod of Seven Parts, and who force her to become involved in a cataclysmic quest. Ylvahild lives in a small demiplane that was originally intended as her prison, created by her storm giant relatives. As a noble born of the union of a giant and a human, it is not appropriate for her to live with the other giant lords, and she began to show signs at a young age that she did not care to participate in their conquests or stewardship, instead preferring more human pursuits like magic and study. She showed signs of having skill in trolldomur, the forbidden evil magic practiced by her mother, which manifested in her enchanted white hair that seems to have a mind of its own. To resolve both her desire to distance herself from her family and their need to remove her bad influence from their halls, they caused a branch of the world tree to split off from theirs and placed her in her own tiny kingdom within it.
She describes this demiplane as her tower, but it is an expansive island paradise that stretches approximately 1,500 feet in each direction, with a richly furnished castle squarely in the center. About two-thirds of the area is ocean, and the top third is rock and air. For most of her life she has lived here completely alone. Her grandfather and other relatives would occasionally visit her when she was younger, but she would behave so deliberately unpleasantly that they quickly grew tired of her company and left her to her own devices. After many years of neglect, Ylvahild began to think that they had forgotten about her. Despite the isolation, her exile was not hard, for she had plenty of books to read and her island kingdom was bountiful with all types of flora and fauna. One of the items in her realm is a magic mirror, designed to allow Ylvahild to view what is going on in the material plane. The mirror also communicates with her captors, acting as a sort of prison warden. However, Ylvahild has made a pact with her reflection, drawing on her knowledge of the occult and the spark of magic that she inherited from her ancestors. In exchange for pledging her service to the strange forces of the mirror realm, she has been granted extraordinary powers. Her witchcraft has allowed Ylvahild to wrest control of her prison dimension away from her captors, and to break out of her tower and travel to the material plane. She still thinks of it as her home (she calls it Tårnheim, or "tower-home"), and so she has sought out other half-giant exiles and brought them back to live there with her. She believes that all of them can work together to harvest the unlimited resources and that they will prosper in a spirit of enlightened self-interest. She makes transport possible between the planes, and her workforce handles trade of the various goods their enclave produces. She has come into contact with some of the Red Wizards of Thaythilor during her adventures away, selling them incredibly potent potions and purchasing powerful scrolls from them in exchange. She did not impress them with her condescending attitude and close-lipped manner, but after investigating her more thoroughly they decided that her interference in their machinations was unlikely, though that she might make a valuable piece in their future games of strategy if she was left alone. Ylvahild is close to ten feet tall and built like a brick factory. Her great strength is most evident in her size, for though her body is proportional she has a lot of it. Her incandescent blonde hair is almost white, and she wears it in long, unruly braids that seem only barely held together by light blue ribbons at the ends. She carries no weapons, unless you count the large mirrored shield she wears on her left arm. She has a medium-sized crab creature clinging to her back, but both she and this animal companion are partially concealed by a cloud of mist that seems to hang about her as they stand. Several tiny gems spin around the bulky iron tiara that she wears, and apart from her face and neck all of her very pale skin is covered by long gloves and leggings.
