Male Roc Animal Companion/1

Xlarion, shrieking in pain and renewed rage, slashes with his beak and talons at the man who wounded him, crying out so loudly that Marc and the bandit both reel slightly from the pain and intensity. A Roc is a fearsome adversary in all regards, and their shrieks can be heard for miles. This Roc happens to be at most 4 feet away from either man, so it is doubly loud for the proximity.

5' move to Flanking with Marc if not already.
Beak 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Talon 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22 Damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Talon 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

The Last Bandit gurgles as Xlarion's talons sink into his flesh at last and the great bird rides the dying man down to the ground, beak diving in at the throat over and over again until the only movements are the jerks as Xlarion tears flesh from the man's body in furious abandon.

The blood from the fierce creature's attacks coats Marc's pants and shoes and his sword drips with gore.

The entire scene stinks of death and sweat and battle. Bodies litter the ground and all of the scene is permeated with the loud swearing of Bors as he struggles with the ropes.

Marc going to assume you went after Bandit 6 since 7 is dead
Xlarion cries out as he and Marc begin taking the bandit between them apart and he slashes with his talons and beak at the man, meaning to drag him down and butcher him. His wild avian eyes are alight with fury and the joy of combat.

Talon 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Talon 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Beak 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Yet again however, his slashing talons and beak fail to hurt the bandit.

Starting to get an image of a giant chicken hopping up and down in midair trying to peck at someone...sadly not the image I should be seeing when thinking about a Roc

Male Roc Animal Companion/1

Xlarion shrieks and tears into the man yet again, drifting to the side so he is able to flank with the swordsman Marc, bringing all three of his savage natural weapons to bear upon the man, intent on tearing the man to bloody shreds.

5' Shift to Flanking position
Flanking with Marc
Talon 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Talon 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Beak 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

This time however, none of his attacks gain purchase on the man, who is able to beat off the bird yet again.

Male Roc Animal Companion/1

Xlarion, hearing his master's cry, loops back around and streaks towards the slim-iron-fang man named Marc who is busy battling two bandits at the same time. With a great shriek, he drives in from the flank, slashing with his talons at the bandits with cruel, avian savagery.

Charge, Flanking with Marc: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Talon 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Xlarion strikes true and the bandit cries out in sudden pain as savage talons rip through his flank and he is suddenly caught between the golden-haired swordsman and an irate, gigantic bird.

Male Roc Animal Companion/1

Xlarion looses a savage cry and spreads his wings fully and then races off, diving down onto one of the fleeing men easily and slashing with both of his talons cruelly.

Talon, Bandit 14 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 2 + 1 = 15 Damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Talon, Bandit 14 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 2 + 1 = 20 Damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Xlarion gives a great shriek of triumph as his claws drag down the bandit who screams in agony as Xlarion rides his torn and savaged body to the ground. His screams are cut short as Xlarion's beak sinks home and tears a gaping hole into the man's throat.

Male Roc Animal Companion/1

Xlarion cries out again and shrieks a greeting of battle to Marc the Golden-Haired Earth-Walker with the metal claw, and then he returns to savaging the Bandit with his talons and beak.

Talons 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Beak 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

None of Xlarion's attacks can breach the man's armor and his shriek of anger makes everyone about him wince. Xlarion is a fighter, a scrapper, and he would not draw away from his prey until the man had fallen dead.

Male Roc Animal Companion/1

Xlarion shrieks in anger and easily evades the clumsy axe blow then returns to savaging the human with his talons, beating at the man with his wings and his cries tearing through the man's ears, announcing Xlarion's impending victory!

Talon 1 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Talon 2 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20 Damage1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Beak 1d1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11

One Talon is beaten aside by the man's axe but the other latches onto him and draws blood easily, cutting through the man's tunic and into his soft flesh. He also jabs with his cruelly hooked beak but the man jerks his head aside before it can plunge into his throat or eye.

Male Roc Animal Companion/1

Xlarion cries out in victory yet again and circles high above, then folds his wings and dives straight down at the nearest sentry not already within the ring of trees, catching the man just before he can enter the ring of his fellows and shrieking in rage as he slashes with his talons at the man's face.

I realize that when charging, you only get one attack, so one one claw this time, again, my bad last time for giving him two.

Charge, Talon: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Talon Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 His talons sink into the man's flesh and he beats at the man's face with his wings as he slashes cruelly, inflicting light damage all the same.

Male Roc Animal Companion/1

Xlarion, having recieved his orders, plucks up a large boulder, about the size of a pony, and flies up as high as he can with it, peering about with his sharp eyes till he spots the largest of the tents. It is not hard to do and he dives low, rock clutched in his talons.

Bandit Perception, DC 20 to see Xlarion: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24

At the last second however, a Bandit squawks out an order just as Xlarion looses the Rock and lets its plummet straight on top of the chieftain's tent, crushing whatever was within with a loud snapping of timber and tearing of cloth.

Automatic Hit to Bors: 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 3, 1) + 6 = 14 Half Damage from the Perception Check.

There is an immesne swearing and immediatly out of the tent staggars a bleeding man, heavy-set and from his back, while still clutching his injured skull, he draws from his back a heavy, two-handed Falchion. His armor strains over a round belly but there is nothing jolly about his manner as he looks up, head bleeding profusely and he points his sword at Xlarion.

"I want that bird on a spit!!!" he roars and immedieatly 1d6 ⇒ 2 Bandits loose arrows from their shortbows after Xlarion as the bird whirls and flies back up towards the skies.

Bandit 1:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
bandit 2:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

Both arrows fall short and Xlarion cries out joyously as he escapes to the safety of the skies, while meanwhile the camp is thrown into chaos as everyone is caught looking up after it, perplexed.

Male Roc Animal Companion/1

Perception:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Xlarion streaks back to the party within the hour, folding his great wings and fresh blood on his beak and talons. Closer inpection identify that there is fur caught in the corner of his beak, indicating he had gone hunting while out but he also cleverly dumps a torn piece of leather cuirass at his master's feet. The insignia is familiar to those seen on the armor worn by the other bandits.

The Roc screeches his self-satisfaction and preens his feathers smugly as he remarks to Athel Loran. Fly high, many miles around. See two, three groups of men like one before, caught one alone while using tree. Killee quick, but men see, fire metal-branches after Xlarion. Xlarion swift, swifter than any arrow, dodge easy. Bring back news.

From Xlarion's so called "recon" you gather that there is another bandit patrol to the north but that is all the great bird saw. The patrol can be easily avoided but there may be more between here and Reaper's Gorge. As for the gorge itself, Xlarion had a flight over it at a safe distance and identified their location but saw no sign of the Black Fox.

Male Roc Animal Companion/1

Xlarion wings off in front of the fleeing bandit and lands, shrikeing loudly and flapping his wings, making the man stumble and turn about to flee back in the original direction. Xlarion follows close behind, eventually rounding him back up and getting him back into the glade where his dead fellows all lay with one being doctored to by the Bard Marc. The bandit immediatly throws off his weapons and sits down against a tree, while the great bird Xlarion watches over him, casting his master with a smug look in his golden eye.

Rabbit run far, but not escape hunter of the skies. Other man dead, human taste much better than pig-face green-skin. I wait till you done with this one then I killee too. Then Xlarion will eat! Xlarion gives a loud Kreeeeah! as he finishes, then resumes fixing the bandit with a hunter's eye.

Male Roc Animal Companion/1

Xlarion gives his master a rather puzzled golden eye and clacks his fierce beak then spreads his wings and takes off after the fleeing men. He easily catches up to them and with a shriek, launches himself onto the most wounded human with talon and beak.

Charge, Claws.1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Damage1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

The man is born down to the ground screaming as the great bird savages him from behind. He beats off one talon but soon stops twitching as Xlarion slashes at him again this time fatally then pecks twice at the throat to ensure death. He cries out in triumph then peers at the other human, clacking his beak threateningly. The man takes one look at him and takes off running again, weapons forgotten. Xlarion begins hopping after him, ready to finish the chase.

Male Roc Animal Companion/1

Xlarion gives another cry and streaks back down through the treetops at the bandit he has already attacked, slashing with his great talons at the man.

Charge, Claws x2. 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

The man ducks one slashing claw but the other tears through him and Xlarion rides the man down to the ground, clawing and pecking with his lethal hooked beak until the man kicks him off and he looses another great shriek of anger and then prepares to take to the air again.

Forgot he attacked #4the first time, this guy is still alive, for now

Male Roc Animal Companion/1

Xlarion Perception, +2 For being above this all. 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

With a sudden shriek of absolute rage, the great bird Xlarion dives at one of the archers, seeing them open fire on his companions!

Xlarion Claw Charge: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

The Bandit yells in pain as a talon rips suddenly through his hauberk and he clutches at the wound in agony as the Roc wheels up and out of bow range, preparing to charge again once the archers have lost sight of him, preparing to come at them from a different angle.

Bandit Number:1d4 ⇒ 4

Picky Picky Picky

Immediatly following the call from his master a great shriek is heard high in the sky and a dark shape begins diving straight towards the earth. Its speed is incredible, and any who can see it between diving through the clouds can denote a dark black and reddish plumage, a savagely hooked beak and long powerful wings that bear aloft a proud and majestic bird as tall as a man.

Xlarion wheels overhead and streaks straight towards his master, calling out again in a shrill, almost battle-cry of exhulation as he swoops past, rises back up and then begins flapping his great wings as he slowly lowers his body to the ground. Talons the length of dagger blades mince the ground as the party is struck by the downfall of his wings and he eyes them all in turn, standing almost as tall as Ajrhann. He fixes each of them with a fierce golden eye and then folds his wings about his body, ruffles a strange ruff of feathers that almost seems leonine which makes him seem even bigger and more intimidating and he looses a savage cry at the party.

Then, Xlarion trots over to his master and lowers his ruff, beginning to pick with a talon at a bit of meat lodged in the corner. Being a Druid and so intuned to his companion, Xlarion shares a sort of communciational bond with Athel, so what he hears is, within his mind, Good see you Earth-Friend, took much passage of sun. High-sky losing light. Wings long for more flight, make quick with news! Yes! Make quick. Flying about, spied with eyes I did many pig-faced green-Earth-walkers killee and taking what not theirs! Baaaad. I follow them, ooh yes...Many many leauges away. Picked off one, no fight, no fight at all at all! Taste baaad. What news? Why there more Earth-Walkers with you?! Should I killee?

The great bird then eyes them all again, ruff rising and talons kneading the ground, wings half-extending should Athel give him the order.

Knowledge (Nature) DC 20:
Xlarion is no mere giant bird. Xlarion is a Roc, a very young Roc but nonetheless a member of a proud and savage race of bird-folk that can grow to supernatural size.

Xlarion is based off of the Sparrows of the Redwall series by Brian Jacques in my mind, hope you like him.
