Like PF2 is not really my schtick, and aside of lore aspects and adventures I do not really delve into it's mechanics and stuff, I'm stuck with PF1, so I cannot say if Thaumaturge is working as class. Definitely it's cool concept - and I really liked occultist from 1e, so it's definitely something that should be in a game.

But... why call it Thaumaturge? Like it sounds guys like you took 20 random unused fantasy names and just roll 20 to pick one.

In real world Thaumaturge is title used by Greek Orthodox Church for some of their saints, equivalent of those called in old English Christianity - Wonderworkers. In fact Thaumaturge means precisely - Wonderworker/Mircaleworker. It if anything cleric equivalent I'd say for lack of better suitable terms. (Which makes old Tome of Horrors demonic-worshippers kinda iffy).

It has nothing to do with classic characters that fits supernatural hunter archetype neither occultists proper like Constantine, not hunter like Van Helsing, or Geralt... no one here was called thaumaturge... because well it has nothing to do with concept of thaumaturgy and miracles.

I mean occultist was also bit off, but at least somehow connected by archetype of Occult Detective (pity we're not doing two word class names).

Like literally I heard thaumaturge I think mighty spells, not opposite of that. That's kinda jarring. Maybe consider finding more suitable, archetypical name to suit it.

Hey guys.

I have this miniscule problem.
We make this variant channeling rule - that you can via touch channel all energy into one being with bonus damage/heal.

The question now is - should such touch attack provoke attack of opportunity, considering touch attack assumes casting/channeling player/NPC must touch enemy with bare hand, and unarmed attacks provoke AoO by RAW.

Or for simmilar but RAW situation - what about cleric casting touch attack spell round earlier and discharging it in touch attack later - therefore casting outside of are of AoO, but TA normally.

While I am not really fan of 4E mechanics or it's FR variant I kinda like 4E classes - warden, invoker, avenger, seeker.
While I found PF/3.5 variants or at least some cool ideas how to convert those classes as a unique PF things, I found nothing bout the seeker.

Anyone made some conversion or have idea bout them?

Sundown dazzling day
Gold through my eyes
But my eyes turned within
Only see
Starless and bible black

OK, so it began.
My first experience as a DM, third overall with mad worlds of dungeons and dragons.
First, I feel obliged to explain three things. I have OCD, I never know when to stop, and I was born postmodernist.
I have been planning epic, dark and irrational campaign since year or two, trying even to re-wrote game rules completely for it (thankfully I’m too lazy, so I didn’t managed to do it… yet.)

But in the end we are left with good ol’ Pathfinder although with few important modifications – total removal of Vancian magic, Concentration restored as Intelligence based save throw, Search and Jump restored as skills of their own, Provoke and Parry adapted as skills from Bioware. That’s most important I suppose.

Setting: Forgotten Realms.
Time: 1647 DR (yeah, sort of future, it allowed me to adapt few things I found cool in 4th edition, destroy some others, kill some gods, revive others, funny things. Also: less monsters, less strictly evil races, more shadows, character class villains and civilization)

Players:

Amenhotep Amhezati – played by Indoctrine (Marcin)

aasimar scholar 4 (expert variant)

Respected member of Celestial University in Skuld, Amenhotep was a specialist of astrology and theology. While respectful for traditions of his people and pantheon of Heliopolis, he always believed that key to destiny of humankind lies within stars of dark tapestry not divination. Rather than use his talents to practice arts of arcane, or mysteries of religion, he decided to spent his life on discovering this destiny.

Emerrond – played by Utahraptor (Mateusz)

wood elf ranger 2/fighter 3

Finding himself ill-suited for an unpredictable life of his fellow folk, Emmerond choose a more civilized way to use his archery talents and joined forces of lord Orthen Brackt of Neverwinter. His martial talents allowed him to quickly become an officer, and when Many-Starred Cloak was invited to sent their representative to Great Arcane Congregation in Thay, Emerrond was given command over honorable guard of master Telmarion Vanyu during his journey.

Mahalaz - played by Rainman (Maciej)

fire genasi bard 6

Calishite singer of uncertain reputation, haunted by mysterious dreams of world burning, Mahalaz traveled from Tethyr to Waterdeep, from Dales to Amn, trying to forgot about nightmare awaiting through hazardous and little bit hedonistic life of bard. (Technically Lawful Neutral but knowing Maciej, I will bite my hand off if he won’t end as CN.)

Nilanth Aesyr – played by Executor (Bartosz)

fugue aasimar cleric of Jergal 6

Born with a blood of Fugue Plane in his veins, son of Kelemvor priestess from his childhood showed signs of morbid fascination. Soon he’ll find another master more suited for his cold, uncaring persona – Lord of Skulls. Learning secrets of Jergal faith from wandering vampire hunter and then for a short time in isolated Cormyran monastery of Long Death, after that he return to Waterdeep, where he joined ranks with self-made paladin of Tyr, ghetto-orc Zoltan to stop ghouls haunting poor districts of the city.

Rossen – played by Igor (Igor)

star elf abjurer 4

Member of ancient, otherworldly branch of Tel-qessir, Rossen was born in Sildëyuir, mysterious realm of star elves, but she and her family was forced to leave her home, were increasing activity of mysterious ethereal theurges corrupted most of demiplane. Unfortunately rather than in Yuirwood as assumed portal led exiles nearby city of Luskan on a Sword Coast. While visiting Neverwinter Rossen become victim of failed transmutation spell that left her with blood-red hair and eyes and chalky skin. All efforts of wizards of Many-Starred Coat was unable to restore her to former condition. Meanwhile she started to train arcane arts, with little bit paranoic concentration on abjuration. She joined master Telmarion Vanyu in his travel to Thay, in hope to rejoin with her family in Aglarond.

Zoltan Grim – played by Apoc (Adam)

mongrel orc paladin of Tyr 5

Born in orc ghetto of Waterdeep, Zoltan was son of merchant daughter and deep orc mercenary. When his father was unjustly accused of murder and executed, Zoltan decided to spent his life in quest of justice. Soon he left orcish gods in favor of greater patron – Tyr (who is after all better fighter than Gruumsh slaying unjust without both eyes and hand). Unfortunately Knights of Holy Judgments were all too skeptical about orc joining their ranks, so they were trying to put him off. So young Zoltan was fighting small crooks in a darkest alleys of City of Splendor, slaying vermin and trying to convert his fellow orcs to faith of Tyr.

So I'm preparing my first big D&D/PF campaign and (because of narrative reasons) I make one of vital NPC's paladin 5/warlord 5. Now first I learned about warlod/marshall class from 4th editions materials, but since we're playing 3/3,5/PF it's not an option. I know there are few PF and 3.5 variants of this class - so my question is. Which is the best.

Best balanced, not overly munchnkin-philiac, and most logical in terms of powers.

Any suggestions?
