About Wendee MastersonAppearance and Personality:
Whether putting on one of her signature performances, or simply due to the way people naturally gravitate to her, Wendee Masterson tends to stand out in a crowd. Although somewhat small of stature at 5'3", she dresses in simple fashions that many would describe as distinctive and eye-catching, without being tasteless or gaudy. A youthful face and joyful demeanor make it hard for most to believe she is nearly two decades past her formative years. Further lending to a younger appearance is the eyeshadow, lipstick, and nail polish Wendee wears in slightly unconventional pinks and purples, as well as a few small, handcrafted rings adorning her fingers. However, the (figuratively) offbeat musician's most distinctive feature is undeniably the bright smile she is rarely seen without. Were she only a talented musician, Wendee would still be sure to leave quite the impression on her audiences, but what truly sets her apart is more than just that. With an infectious positivity, Wendee tends to endear herself to anyone and everyone she encounters, caring about each individual person and warming their hearts, be it through musical inspiration, aptly-timed humor, stories of far away lands, or a sympathetic ear. Even without the opportunity to interact with everyone who sees her during her performances, she's become known for giving each person the impression that they share a genuine, meaningful connection--for some, it may feel as though an eternity has passed, singularly enraptured by her melodies; for others, it may feel as though a brief, yet perfect, moment. Outside of music and spreading goodness, Wendee loves to travel and explore the world. She has wandered for many years, learning of new people and places, ever expanding her experiences, knowledge, and abilities. Despite her blindness, she adores books, and treasures the times when others read to her. Those closest to her also know Wendee as a bit mischievous, quick to take advantage of an opportunity to play a harmless joke, or offer an unsuspected pun.
Backstory:
Wendee was born without the ability to see, but with a burning passion for music. She began playing and singing long before she was accepted into the famous Karcau Conservatory located in the Ustalavic territory of Sinaria. Although discouraged from pursuing an education in both violin and song simultaneously, Wendee resolved to make it through the two demanding programs together, refining her techniques and unique style of singing while playing the violin. While not exactly a secret, most are unaware of Wendee's family ties to magic. She never gave much thought to focusing on it the way many of her forebearers did, but some of it seemed to come naturally anyway. From time to time, Wendee will add a little magic to her performances, giving them just a bit more of her special flair, but is careful not to rely too heavily upon flashy effects. Although she's become quite skilled at negotiating her way out of potentially hazardous situations, she has practiced using magic to aid her in this way as well... just to be safe. Since graduation, Wendee has made a decent name for herself by traveling and bringing her joy wherever the winds may take her. Perhaps she could have found greater fame and wealth by performing with a static orchestra, but staying in one place for long never seemed to suit her. Throughout her journeys, Wendee has encountered many different races and cultures, not only making use of the Draconic that was standard in her earlier schooling, but picking up the sonorous and sing-songy Skald language of the Land of the Linnorm Kings, as well as Sylvan from more than a few trips across fey lands. Her latest turn has brought her to the Taldan village of Heldren, where she hopes to make some music and new friends before continuing on once again.
