Description:

Welby is a handsome and cheerful Hobbit. He stand 3'6", the average height for a male of his race. He is mildly fatish in the stomach with shortish legs. He owns a round, jovial face and his ears are slightly pointed. His hair is shaggy and curly brown, often falling into his eyes at the least appropriate times. His feet are rather large and sandal-less. They too are covered in shaggy brown hair. He sits on a pony; adorned in green, velvet breeches and a yellow waistcoat. He wears a dark green hood and cloak. The hilts of two short swords are visible from his cloak. A large backpack creates a bulge on the back of his coat. He puffs on a wooden, ornately-carved pipe. His eyes are joyful, yet sharp. He nods as you approach.

Background:

Welby Fairbairn was born in the year FoA 120; the great, great, great grandson of Samwise and Rose Gamgee. He is the great, great grandson of Elanor Fairbairn, who settled with her family in the Undertowers shortly after the start of the Fourth Age. His early life was unextraordinary. He grew, as many "little people" do, learning the day to day tasks of those lucky enough to be raised in Hobbit society. Farming, eating, and socializing ruled his days. More importantly, he was schooled in the fine art of pipe-weed smoking, an art that everyone knows was created and perfected by Hobbits.
He led a simple life in Undertowers, celebrating birthdays with the giving of Mathom (old, useless objects which were inevitably given as presents many times over). It was a happy childhood. The Age of Man had brought stability to his small section of Middle Earth. He was completely satisfied living in his smial (Hobbit hole) with his family.

As he grew, so did his thirst to know about his heritage. Many told stories of the adventures of his forefather...how Samewise had played a major role in the salvation of all of Middle Earth. He was introduced to Red Book. He became infatuated with the world he had never seen and the creatures he has never known. Soon, he was traveling to the Great White City to study history,

Upon arriving in the "world of man", he quickly realized their culture was much different from the one in which he was raised. His interests were again peaked. He spent several years at the academy learning. He was only an average student, but his charisma set him apart. Upon graduation, he was invited to join a group of archaeologists the King was sponsoring. This group would travel all over the North seeking artifacts. He specialized in the War of the Ring. He had many adventures during these years and became a skilled swordsman.

Upon completing his time in this group, he was summoned by one of his previous professors. He was invited to join a group of diplomats heading South to scout the area and judge the political climate. His unique knowledge of history was a valuable asset and being a Hobbit gave a unique perspective for the King. Welby now travels South with this group.

Character he is like:
Meriadoc Brandybuck-One of the more perceptive of the Hobbits that were a part of the Fellowship. He had a knowing manner and an innocent, teasing sense of humor. He enjoyed the simple things in life, but was a deep thinker when it came to strategies and plans.
